Makram Koubaa,Chakib Marrakchi,Imed Maaloul,Saloua Makni
Mediterranean Journal of Hematology and Infectious Diseases , 2012, DOI: 10.4084/mjhid.2012.
Abstract: A 22-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of fever, skin rash and epistaxis. Physical examination revealed fever (39.5°C), generalized purpura, lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly. Blood tests showed pancytopenia. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy showed hemophagocytosis with no evidence of malignant cells. Anti rubella IgM antibody were positif and the IgG titers increased from 16 to 50 UI/mL in 3 days. Therefore, he was diagnosed to have rubella-associated hemophagocytic syndrome. We report herein the first case in a man and the sixth case of rubella-associated hemophagocytic syndrome in the literature by search in Pub Med till March 2012.
Power Quality Study of an Isolated Northwest Grid of Saudi Arabia with PV and Storage  [PDF]
Hani Albalawi, Elham Makram
Journal of Power and Energy Engineering (JPEE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jpee.2015.36006
Abstract: One main concern of power quality is harmonics because the distorted waveforms of current and voltage have a huge effect on electrical equipment. Due to the continuous increase of grid connected photovoltaic (PV) and nonlinear loads, as a result of the fast development and growth of power electronics application, power quality becomes more important since it introduces harmonics to the power system. This paper presents a power quality study to the isolated northwest grid of Saudi Arabia in presence of PV system and battery storage. Moreover, the study includes nonlinear loads for more analysis regarding harmonics penetration and the design procedure for passive filters to eliminate the harmonics.
Configuration Optimization of Cables in Ductbank Based on Their Ampacity  [PDF]
Bin Sun, Elham Makram
Journal of Power and Energy Engineering (JPEE) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jpee.2018.64001
Abstract: Electrical power companies are using more underground cables rather than overhead lines to distribute power to their customers. In practice, cables are generally installed in some compact ductbanks. Since the cost of underground cables is very expensive, using the entire space of a ductbank is extremely important. But such usage is limited due to the overheating of cables. Overheating is generally caused by overload, which means the carrying current exceeds the ampacity of a cable. The ampacity of a cable depends on not only the material and design of a cable but also the distance between different cables. Thus the configuration of cables determines the total ampacity value and the potential use of a ductbank. In this paper, the best configuration based on ampacity is achieved for a three-row, five-column ductbank that is buried at a depth of one meter below the earth’s surface. Both balanced and unbalanced scenarios are considered, and all cables have two available types to be selected.
Orígenes históricos y componentes del poder nacional contemporáneo: factibilidad y utilidad de la medición empírica de las capacidades estatales
HALUANI,MAKRAM;
Cuadernos del Cendes , 2006,
Abstract: this article seeks to identify the salient quantitative and qualitative aspects of the national power. as a relatively new theme in political science, national power is defined as a combination of components that will permit a given country to plan, execute and reap the benefits of its national capacities (of both public and private origin), applied as public policies in the domestic and external sphere of action, in pursuit of predeterminated national interests. based on the analysis of its historical origins and essential, structural-permanent and/or relational-circumstantial components, it also seeks to determine the feasibility of measuring it, be it in quantitative, qualitative or even in novel ?quantilative? terms. the conclusions will focus mainly on the uses and abuses of national power as a theoretical concept and as a practical dimension in national and international politics.
Sistemas de balance de poder regional: geografía, jerarquías y poder nacional
Haluani,Makram;
Cuadernos del Cendes , 2002,
Abstract: the present paper aims to study the impact of states? power, their geographic location, and of their qualitative-comparative hierarchy on regional political and security relations. it also seeks to identify the basic variables that shape the creation and application of those politico-military capabilities and to link them to the pattern of their cooperative or conflictual relations within their regional balance of power system
Transhepatic approach for rehabilitation of stenosed pulmonary arteries
Ebeid Makram
Annals of Pediatric Cardiology , 2010,
Abstract: Transhepatic cardiac catheterization and intervention is used in selected cases in our institution. A retrospective review of transcatheter interventions for the pulmonary artery was conducted. Forty-five transhepatic procedures were performed. Thirteen involved intervention, to rehabilitate the branch pulmonary arteries. The median weight of the patients was 9.9 Kg ± 3.4. The patients′ age ranged from eight months to 86 months (median 23 months). The largest sheath used was 7F. All the patients underwent success intervention with no complication related either to the transhepatic approach or the intervention. The branch pulmonary artery diameter increased from 4.5 ± 2.2 mm to 7 ± 3 mm. Most of the procedures were performed under conscious sedation / deep sedation protocol. Hemostasis was achieved in all patients by gradual sheath withdrawal, followed by application of upward pressure on the tract from the subcostal area. In the absence of patent femoral veins the transhepatic approach can be used to perform successful and safe interventions, to rehabilitate the pulmonary artery system. It may offer the additional advantage of using larger sheaths than would be felt appropriate for the femoral veins.
Yves-Charles Zarka and Cynthia Fleury’s Difficile tolérance seeks to study the question of tolerance within Western societies, and the position occupied by Arab Muslim communities within those societies. The authors stress the incompatibility of Western and Islamic values ; they argue that it is impossible for tolerance to develop within Islamic culture, and assert the need to react against communitarian claims, which they see as increasingly dangerous for the institutions of the French Republic. In this article, the main postulates, assumptions and historical examples put forward by Y. Zarka and C. Fleury are subjected to analysis and critique. The article points out the misreadings, errors of interpretation and distortions on which the two authors rely as they set out their hypothesis of the absence of tolerance within Islamic culture.
This article seeks to identify the salient quantitative and qualitative aspects of the national power. As a relatively new theme in political science, national power is defined as a combination of components that will permit a given country to plan, execute and reap the benefits of its national capacities (of both public and private origin), applied as public policies in the domestic and external sphere of action, in pursuit of predeterminated national interests.
The present paper aims to study the impact of states’ power, their geographic location, and of their qualitative-comparative hierarchy on regional political and security relations. It also seeks to identify the basic variables that shape the creation and application of those politico-military capabilities and to link them to the pattern of their cooperative or conflictual relations within their regional balance of power system
Impact of the Qualitative and Quantitative Aspects of Human Activity on the Ecosystem: Demonstration through the Use of Ecological Footprint Approach
Makram GAALICHE
European Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies , 2012,
Abstract: This article aims to show that the impact of human activities on the ecosystem, measured by the Ecological Footprint, depends on the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the population. Indeed, we confirmed our hypothesis by an empirical analysis on Tunisia, where it was revealed that the increase in its Ecological Footprint, is attributed mainly to massive consumption of goods, bad land management by building horizontal, and to a lesser extent, to the presence of polluting employments. The results suggest the adoption of targeted policies, according to the specific characteristics of population.
