Abstract: Introduction. Urogenital congenital anomalies are among the most common congenital anomalies and very frequent pathology in paediatric urology. Health care systems strive to shorten the duration and reduce the costs of hospitalization, while maintaining treatment effectiveness. Objective. To evaluate the duration of hospital stay of surgically treated patients with congenital urogenital anomalies and estimate the possibility of using fast track surgery principles in paediatric urology in the local settings of a developing country. Methods. Retrospective non-randomized study included 552 patients who had been surgically treated at the Urology Department of the University Children’s Hospital, during 2010. In line with their congenital anomalies, all patients were classified in one of four groups: I - upper urinary tract anomalies (252 patients); II - genital anomalies (164 patients); III - testicular anomalies (76 patients) and IV - associated anomalies (60 patients). We analyzed the total duration of stay as well as preand post-operative stay in the hospital. Results. The average duration of hospitalization was 4.7±4.0 days. Patients with testicular anomalies stayed for the shortest period (2.3±1.9 days) (p<0.01) and patients with associated anomalies stayed in the hospital the longest (6.5±4.7 days) (p<0.01). Conclusion. Modern methods of surgical treatment allow reduction of hospitalization, financial savings to the healthcare system and greater comfort for patients. Our results showed that this is also possible to apply in our environment.

Abstract: Introduction. Hypospadias represents the most frequent penile anomaly. The most challenging part of hypospadias surgery is urethral reconstruction. Many various tissues are used (local skin flaps, bladder mucosa grafts, buccal mucosa grafts etc.) for the reconstruction of the neourethra. Objective. Our aim was to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of combined buccal mucosa graft and penile skin flap in urethral reconstruction in severe hypospadias repair. Methods. Between December 2005 and August 2009, 48 patients with severe hypospadias, aged from nine months to 12 years (mean age 23 months) underwent surgery. Thirty-four (71%) had penoscrotal and 14 (29%) scrotal hypospadias. Ventral penile curvature was present in all cases, and was corrected by incision of the short urethral plate. Urethroplasty was performed using a buccal mucosa graft combined with dorsal penile skin flap. Results. Mean follow-up was 22 months (range from 9 months to 3 years). Satisfactory functional and aesthetic results were achieved in 40 (83%) patients. Fistula was noted in six cases and was solved by minor revision. Urethral stenosis in two cases was resolved by simple dilatation. Conclusion. Urethral reconstruction using the buccal mucosa graft and dorsal penile skin flap in severe hypospadias repair could be the method of choice. Using this technique, single stage urethral reconstruction is possible with satisfactory esthetical and functional results.
Influence of the damage level during quenching on thermal shock behavior of low cement castable

Science of Sintering , 2010, DOI: 10.2298/sos100518001m
Abstract: In the recent decades, the use of unshaped monolithic refractories has been increasing greatly because of their significant advantages over other shaped refractory bricks of the same class. A low cement high alumina castable was synthetised and sintered at 1300°C in order to investigate thermal and mechanical properties, as well as thermal shock behavior. The water quench test was applied as an experimental method for thermal stability testing. Modification of the water quench test was performed by additional monitoring of the samples behavior during the water quench test such as implementation of image analysis and ultrasonic measurements. The image analysis program was applied on samples in order to measure the level of surface damage before and during the water quench test. Ultrasonic measurements were performed with the aim to measure the Young modulus of elasticity during the testing. Strength deterioration of the samples was calculated by the model based on ultrasonic velocity changes during the water quench test. The influence of monitoring the damage level before and during the quench experiment and its influence on thermal shock behavior will be discussed.
Motivation and Expectations for Studying Journalism at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb

Medijske Studije , 2012,
Abstract: This paper explores students’ motivation to study journalism, the expectations that students had regarding the study, and the fulfillment of those expectations. The survey was conducted on a convenience sample of journalism students at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb (academic year 2010-2011), which included: 1st and 3rd year students of undergraduate study and 2nd year students of graduate study. Since the selected questions were open-ended, the obtained responses were widely dispersed, and were later classified into defined categories after the survey. The results show that the most common reason among students to study journalism is a wish to enroll in that specific study and the desire to work in the media. The expectations that students have mainly refer to good and adequate training. In their senior year of study (3rd year of undergraduate and 2nd year of graduate study), there are many disappointed students as a result of unfulfilled expectations (mainly because of the lack of practice and practical subjects).

Ethical Disputes and Credibility of Daily Newspapers-Content Analysis of Front Page Newspaper Articles in Jutarnji list and Ve ernji list
Dunja Majstorovi
Medijske Studije , 2010,
Abstract: Among the more common assertions regarding the media is the existence of a large number of ethical disputes in front page news articles in daily newspapers. Therefore, the main goal of this studyis to establish the number of ethical disputes in articles placed on the front pages of Croatia’s two main dailies, Jutarnji list and Ve ernji list (sample of one month). In the course of the research three hypotheses were made with the purpose of verifying their accuracy. Using content analysis as the primary method for analysis, the ethically disputable articles were divided into the following categories: anonymous sources, biased display of events, violations of human rights, inappropriate reporting, and headlines that fail to match the text. The same articles were then classifi ed into categories according to their topics. The results of this study confi rm all three hypotheses, the fi rst of which is that there are a large number of ethical disputes in the analyzed articles. In Jutarnji list 26 articles (of 95 analyzed articles) contained 30 ethical disputes and in Ve ernji list 23 articles (of 108 analyzed) contained 29 ethical disputes. Further, this study concludes that there is a distinct similarity in the number of ethical disputes in the articles in both newspapers. The results verify the third hypothesis; the largest number of ethically disputable articles centered on topics related to domestic politics. The results of the research indicate a violation of journalism ethics which can be explained by increasing sensationalism in daily newspapers. The result of inappropriate reporting has a significant impact on the decline of credibility of newspapers as a medium.
Human Capital Production Function in Strategic Management  [PDF]
Marko Kesti, Antti Syv?j?rvi
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2015.61002
Abstract: Research-based view studies indicate that companies can distinguish themselves in competition through a profound understanding of their resources and through continuous improvement of their human competencies. It seems that human competencies form an intangible asset, which in turn forms sustainable, unique strengths that are key to firm-specific superior performance. Evidence-based human resource management argues that gaining competitive advantage through human capital development should be verified and estimated scientifically. This article presents the scientifically solid theory of Human Capital Production Function, which explains tangible and intangible human capital’s worth to business scorecards in terms of profit and loss account metrics. This article illustrates how Human Capital Production Function explains human resource management’s essential role in supporting strategic aims in either achieving cost advantage or differentiation advantage.

Zbornik Matice Srpske za Prirodne Nauke , 2010, DOI: 10.2298/zmspn1018143t
Abstract: Numbers of breeding pairs of breeding birds and breeding density are established by territory mapping in Limanski (12.9 ha), Futo ki (8.26 ha), and Dunavski (3.9 ha) Parks in Novi Sad from early March to late June 2007. In Limanski Park 11 species of breeders were found, the most numerous being tree sparrow (Passer montanus). Futo ki Park had 15 breeders and the most numerous were great tit (Parus major). The smallest number of species (9) bred in Dunavski Park, with great tit as the most common breeder. The greatest density of breeding pairs was recorded in the largest park (37.7 pairs/km2). Hole-breeders dominated in Futo ki and Dunavski Park, but their number was the same as the number of canopy-breeders in Limanski Park. Measured with Sorensen index of similarity, the greatest similarity was found between breeding avifauna of Futo ki and Dunavski Park (72), then between Futo ki and Limanski (61), while the smallest similarity was found if we compare breeding avifauna of Dunavski and Limanski Park. Compared with breeding avifauna in other parks in Central Europe, breeding avifauna of Novi Sad parks is relatively poor.

Processing and Application of Ceramics , 2008,
Abstract: Alumina based ceramic fibres and alumina based ceramic were used to produce composite material. Behaviour of composite ceramics after thermal shock treatments was investigated. Thermal shock of the samples was evaluated using water quench test. Surface deterioration level of samples was monitored by image analysis before and after a number of quenching cycles. Ultrasonic measurements were done on samples after quench tests. Dynamic Young modulus of elasticity and strength degradation were calculated using measured values of ultrasonic velocities. Strengths deterioration was calculated using the non-destructive measurements and correlated to degradation of surface area and number of quenches. The addition of small amount of ceramic fibres improves the strengths and diminishes the loss of mechanical properties of samples during thermal shock experiments.
