Morphologic Bilateral Differences of Top Level Gymnasts Diferencias Morfológicas Bilaterales de Gimnastas de Nivel Superior

Abstract: Gymnastics is a basic sport, which was developed under a philosophic idea "Mens sana in corpore sano". Such an idea supposes harmonized body and soul. We can also understand under such a terminus the symmetricity of the athletic body. Aim of our investigation was to determine whether gymnast's body is symmetric. On the sample of 40 top level gymnasts (average age of 23 years) who were attending World Cup Competition in Ljubljana in the year 2000 we measured 13 anthropometric characteristics - joint diameters, circumferences and skinfold thicknesses on the left and right side. While there were no differences between the left and right leg parameters, there were some significant differences between the left and right arm measures. We found significant differences in elbow diameter, circumference of forearm, and skin fold thicknesses of triceps and biceps brachii. It is beneficial for coaches to control the symmetry of their athletes as the differences may be a sign of single-sided arm overload and predict acute or chronic injuries. La gimnasia es un deporte básico, que se desarrolló bajo la idea filosófica "Mens sana in corpore sano". Tal idea supone armonizar el cuerpo y el alma. También la podemos entender bajo el término simetricidad del cuerpo atlético. El objetivo de nuestra investigación fue determinar si el cuerpo de una gimnasta es simétrico. Sobre una muestra de 40 gimnastas de alto nivel (promedio de edad de 23 a os) que asistían a la Competencia de la Copa Mundial en Ljubljana en el a o 2000 se midieron 13 características antropométricas, diámetros de las articulaciones, perímetros y pliegues cutáneos en los lados izquierdo y derecho. Si bien, no hubo diferencias entre los parámetros de la pierna izquierda y la derecha, hay algunas diferencias significativas entre las medidas del brazo izquierdo y derecho. Se encontraron diferencias significativas en el diámetro del codo, la circunferencia del antebrazo y grosor del pliegue cutáneo del tríceps y del bíceps braquial. Es beneficioso para los entrenadores controlar la simetría de sus atletas, ya que las diferencias pueden ser un signo de sobrecarga del miembro de un lado, y predecir las lesiones agudas o crónicas.

Stokes-Einstein relation and excess entropy scaling law in liquid Copper

Abstract: We report an ab initio study of structural and dynamic properties of liquid copper as a function of temperature. In particular, we have evaluated the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient from the velocity autocorrelation function as well the temperature dependence of the viscosity from the transverse current correlation function. We show that LDA based results are in close agreement with experimental data for both the self-diffusion coefficient and the viscosity over the temperature range investigated. Our findings are then used to test empirical approaches like the Stokes-Einstein relation and the excess entropy scaling law widely used in the literature. We show that the Stokes-Einstein relation is valid for the liquid phase and that the excess entropy scaling law proposed by Dzugutov is legitimate only if a self-consistent method for determining the packing fraction of the hard sphere reference liquid is used within the Carnahan-Starling approach to express the excess entropy.

Abstract: The ever-present need of remembering and reimagining the memory through the culture of building memorial sights, as markers of identity, at the places of extreme violence in the immediate aftermaths of the conflict deescalation was a light motive for writing this paper. By allocating the empirical research on the ground of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is a great opportunity to re-examine the dense perplexity of issues that are enhancing the momentum of the memory juxtaposed with the counter-memory, whereas different interest groups (political or civil) are simultaneously producing competing memories. The case study of BiH allows us to notice and highlight the multidimensionality of memory and counter-memoryalong the way of Bosnian postwar society towards the reconciliation, how it enables the identity building and the nation re-building during the processes of political consolidation and its didactic use for further conflict prevention. Using the discourses, visual materials and interviews from the field research adjusted on the post-conflict memory sites in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Republika Srpska(case study monuments of Gavrilo Principe in Sarajevo vs East Sarajevo), I would like to pinpoint the chasm between the actual purpose of memory sites that are built there after the conflict and the danger of them miscommunicating the conflict inflicted past that could possibly lead to a restoration of that latent conflict. Therefore, my research is concentrated on the coupled counter-memorial sites, which are of enormous importance for the process of reconciliation because of their role of keeping balance to the official narratives and memorials, despite of the fact that this role of them is usually neglected by scholars.

Abstract: The sub-Saharan region holds a wide variety of indigenous plant species, still offering the possibility to discover very interesting new natural products with potential therapeutic value. Most of the African population depends on traditional medicine for primary health care, however, neurological disorders are often not considered as common diseases and many people with mental illnesses, like epilepsy, are severely affected by health-related stigma and discrimination. Epilepsy is the most common serious chronic brain disorder, estimated to affect at least 10 million people in Africa. Guinea-Bissau is located in West Africa, and its population is mainly rural with very few health services available. Since the earliest times, Guinea-Bissau flora has constituted the main source of materials used in folk medicine and the local population, who is well versed in the uses of these plants and their properties. The aim of this study was to document the existing knowledge and practices related to the treatment of neurological disorders, namely epilepsy and seizures, in Guinea-Bissau and in other West African countries. The results presented from this study provide information not only on the specific plants used to treat neurological disorders, but also on social knowledge brought in by various ethnic groups, each one having its own culture, beliefs and ways of nature appropriation. Taking into account the existing knowledge on the medicinal properties of plants for treatment of neurologic disorders, it is believed that research in the areas of ethnomedicine and ethnopharmacology in Guinea-Bissau can bring promising results capable of adding value to the very rich natural resources of this country of West Africa.
Growth of graphene on 6H-SiC by molecular dynamics simulation

Abstract: Classical molecular-dynamics simulations were carried out to study epitaxial growth of graphene on 6H-SiC(0001) substrate. It was found that there exists a threshold annealing temperature above which we observe formation of graphitic structure on the substrate. To check the sensitivity of the simulation results, we tested two empirical potentials and evaluated their reliability by the calculated characteristics of graphene, its carbon-carbon bond-length, pair correlation function, and binding energy.
Das Alter ist der wichtigste Risikofaktor der postoperativen erektilen Dysfunktion nach radikaler nerverhaltender Prostatektomie

Abstract: Die radikale Prostatektomie ohne Nerverhalt geht mit Impotenz einher. Bei nerverhaltendem Vorgehen kann das Risiko der erektilen Dysfunktion gesenkt, aber nicht ausgeschlossen werden. Die pr operative Beratung der Patienten erfordert bei nerverhaltender Prostatektomie die Kenntnis der Faktoren, die Einfluss auf die postoperative Potenz haben. Patienten & Methoden: 110 Patienten antworteten 24 Monate nach radikaler perinealer nerverhaltender Prostatektomie auf einen per Post übermittelten Fragebogen. Die Patienten wurden, entsprechend dem Erection Hardness Score, nach der Rigidit t ihrer Erektionen befragt. überwiegend erfolgte der Nerverhalt unilateral (104/110). Verschiedene potenzielle Risikofaktoren (Alter, Qualit t der pr operativen Erektion, Serum-PSA, Gleason-Score, Tumorvolumen, Prostatavolumen, adjuvante Strahlentherapie, ASA-Score, Chronic Disease Score [CDS], arterielle Hypertonie, Hypercholesterin mie, Diabetes mellitus, KHK, Nikotinkonsum) wurden univariat mit der postoperativ erzielten Potenz korreliert. Multivariat wurden dann jene Parameter untersucht, die in der univariaten Analyse einen signifikanten (p ≤ 0,05) oder einen tendenziellen Zusammenhang (p ≤ 0,2) mit der postoperativen erektilen Funktion aufwiesen. Ergebnisse:Das Alter (p 0,001) und der ASAScore (p = 0,018) waren in der univariaten Analyse negative Pr diktoren der postoperativen Potenz. In der multivariaten Analyse war lediglich das Alter (p = 0,028) von signifikanter Bedeutung. Mit jedem Lebensjahr der M nner steigt das Risiko einer um eine Stufe im EHS schlechteren Erektion um das 1,128-Fache an. Bei einem Altersunterschied von 10 Jahren ist das Risiko eines postoperativ schlechteren Erektionsverm gens um den Faktor 3,334 erh ht, bei einem um 20 Jahre h heren Alter betr gt dieser Faktor 11,121. Diskussion & Praxisrelevanz: Das Lebensalter der Patienten wurde im Einklang mit der Literatur als signifikanter Faktor für die postoperative Potenz identifiziert. Der ASA-Score wird hier erstmals als Risikofaktor der erektilen Dysfunktion nach radikaler Prostatektomie beschrieben. Bei der pr operativen Aufkl rung sollte die Frage nach einem Nerverhalt sowohl in Kenntnis onkologischer Daten als auch in Kenntnis der genannten Risikofaktoren beantwortet werden.

Effects of three-body interactions on the structure and thermodynamics of liquid krypton

Abstract: Large-scale molecular dynamics simulations are performed to predict the structural and thermodynamic properties of liquid krypton using a potential energy function based on the two-body potential of Aziz and Slaman plus the triple-dipole Axilrod-Teller (AT) potential. By varying the strength of the AT potential we study the influence of three-body contribution beyond the triple-dipole dispersion. It is seen that the AT potential gives an overall good description of liquid Kr, though other contributions such as higher order three-body dispersion and exchange terms cannot be ignored.
