Abstract: O comprometimento pulmonar na paracoccidioidomicose é muito freqüente, podendo até ser a única manifesta o da doen a. Neste trabalho s o analisados os aspectos encontrados nas tomografias computadorizadas de alta resolu o do tórax de 30 pacientes com paracoccidioidomicose confirmada. Por meio desta análise foram determinados os achados mais comuns e suas formas de apresenta o e distribui o nos pulm es. Os aspectos mais freqüentemente observados foram: espessamento esparso de septos interlobulares (96,7%), opacidades em vidro fosco (66,7%), nódulos (60%), aumento irregular do espa o aéreo (enfisema paracicatricial) (56,7%), espessamento de paredes br nquicas (46,7%), espessamento pleural (36,7%), cavidades (36,7%), dilata o da traquéia (33,3%), distor o arquitetural (30%), consolida o do espa o aéreo (30%), bandas parenquimatosas (23,3%), reticulado intralobular (13,3%) e espessamento irregular do interstício axial peri-hilar (10%). A radiografia do tórax apresenta limitada capacidade de avaliar doen as pulmonares difusas, tornando a tomografia computadorizada de alta resolu o do tórax essencial para avalia o dos pacientes com paracoccidioidomicose pulmonar.

Abstract: O carcinoma bronquíolo-alveolar é um tipo de carcinoma broncogênico de crescimento insidioso, que surge nas paredes das vias aéreas distais e se dissemina utilizando o septo alveolar como um estroma, preservando a arquitetura pulmonar. Neste trabalho foram analisadas as tomografias computadorizadas de alta resolu o de 17 pacientes com carcinoma bronquíolo-alveolar. Ao contrário do relatado na literatura, foram observados predomínio no sexo masculino (71%) e maior freqüência da associa o das formas de consolida o e multinodular (53%) em rela o à forma nodular solitária (12%), multinodular (12%) e de consolida o (23%). Os aspectos mais encontrados foram: áreas de consolida o (76%), broncograma aéreo (71%), áreas de baixa atenua o provavelmente devidas à presen a de muco (60%), espessamento de septos interlobulares, opacidades em vidro fosco e nódulos confluentes (54% cada), e pavimenta o em mosaico (36%). Os nódulos cavitados, a atelectasia, o sinal do halo e o aspecto de "árvore em brotamento" foram observados em apenas um caso cada.

Abstract: pulmonary disease in paracoccidioidomycosis is very common and in some cases can be the sole manifestation of the disease. we studied the findings observed in 30 patients with pulmonary paracoccidioidomycosis submitted to high-resolution computed tomography in order to determine the most frequent findings, presentation patterns and distribution of paracoccidioidomycosis lesions in the lungs. the most frequent findings observed on high-resolution computed tomography were: interlobular septal thickening (96.7%), ground-glass opacities (66.7%), nodules (60%), irregular air-space enlargement (56.7%), bronchial wall thickening (46.7%), pleural thickening (36.7%), cavitation (36.7%), tracheal dilatation (33.3%), architectural distortion (30%), air-space consolidation (30%), parenchymal bands (23.3%), intralobular reticulate (13.3%) and hilar interstitial thickening (10%). chest x-rays allow limited evaluation of diffuse pulmonary diseases, and hence high-resolution computed tomography is an essential method for studying patients with pulmonary paracoccidioidomycosis.

Abstract: bronchioloalveolar carcinoma is a bronchogenic carcinoma that presents an insidious growth, arises from the walls of the distal air spaces and spreads using the alveolar septa as a stroma, preserving the lung architecture. in this work we analyze the high-resolution computed tomography of 17 patients with bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. conversely to the data presented in the literature, male preponderance (71%) and a higher frequency of association between multinodular and consolidation patterns (53%) in comparison to single nodular (12%), multinodular (12%) and consolidation (23%) patterns were observed. the most common findings were: consolidation areas (76%), air bronchogram (71%), low attenuation areas (60%), thickening of interlobular septa, ground-glass attenuation and confluent nodules (54% each), and crazy paving pattern (36%). cavitated nodules, atelectasis, halo sign and "tree in bud" pattern were observed in only one case each.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to analyze tree community of three riparian successional forest stages in environment protection area of lagoa do jacunem, in serra, espírito santo. for the structural characterization, 60 plots of 10 m2 were used, totalizing 0.6 ha of the sampled. the plots were equally distributed among each succession stage, where it was included specimens with cbh > 15 cm at 1.30 m from the soil. in each stage, it was also collected composed samples of soil for posterior chemical analyses. the areas presented dystrophic soils and therefore low in nutrients and high acidity. it was sampled a total of 851 individuals, distributed in 79 species. the diversity (h') of species was gradually increasing its values, being 2.70 in the initial stage, 2.88 in the middle stage, and 2.96 in advanced stage, respectively. the equability j' was 0.77 in the initial and middle stages, and 0.73 in the advanced stage. the density decreased significantly (anova; f=6.55; p <0.01) towards more advanced seral. the values of total basal area varied significantly among successional stages (anova; f=24.87; p<0.0000001). these results evidenced the structural characteristics and differentiated diversity according to the stage of succession where each fragment was.

Abstract: International standards are being developed to promote rapid configuration and integration into the utility automation system. In order to take advantage of modern technology to provide new benefits to users of substation automation, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has developed and released a new global standard for substation automation, named IEC 61850. This aim of this paper is to provide a basic technical overview of substation automation and the standard IEC 61850. It will discuss the benefits of each major aspect of this standard and it will describe how these concepts can be used in the development and implementation of tools related to Substation Automation. The application of communication standards and protocols to facilitate data exchange within the substation environment is presented. In addition, the model is implemented using a small distribution system that plans to utilize new communication technology following the IEC 61850 standard. Finally it proposes a set of laboratories to be used as the core of an undergraduate course. Results illustrate that the communication approach as proposed by IEC 61850 fulfills the real-time requirements for control and protection of distribution system.
Optimized Complex Power Quality Classifier Using One vs. Rest Support Vector Machines  [PDF]

Abstract: Nowadays, power quality issues are becoming a significant research topic because of the increasing inclusion of very sensitive devices and considerable renewable energy sources. In general, most of the previous power quality classification techniques focused on single power quality events and did not include an optimal feature selection process. This paper presents a classification system that employs Wavelet Transform and the RMS profile to extract the main features of the measured waveforms containing either single or complex disturbances. A data mining process is designed to select the optimal set of features that better describes each disturbance present in the waveform. Support Vector Machine binary classifiers organized in a “One Vs Rest” architecture are individually optimized to classify single and complex disturbances. The parameters that rule the performance of each binary classifier are also individually adjusted using a grid search algorithm that helps them achieve optimal performance. This specialized process significantly improves the total classification accuracy. Several single and complex disturbances were simulated in order to train and test the algorithm. The results show that the classifier is capable of identifying >99% of single disturbances and >97% of complex disturbances.

Abstract:

Combined cycle plants (CCs) are broadly used all over the world. The inclusion of CCs into the optimal resource scheduling causes difficulties because they can be operated in different operating configuration modes based on the number of combustion and steam turbines. In this paper a model CCs based on a mixed integer linear programming approach to be included into an optimal short term resource optimization problem is presented. The proposed method allows modeling of CCs in different modes of operation taking into account the non convex operating costs for the different combined cycle mode of operation.

Abstract: In view of the current and predictable energy shortage and environmental concerns, the exploitation of renewable energy sources offers great potential to meet increasing energy demands and to decrease depend- ence on fossil fuels. However, introducing these sources will be more attractive provided they operate in conjunction with energy storage systems (ESS). Furthermore, effective energy storage management is essential to achieve a balance between power quality, efficiency, costs and environmental constraints. This paper presents a method based on the analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy multi-rules and multi-sets. By exploiting a multiple criteria analysis, the proposed methods evaluate the operation of storage energy systems such as: pumped hydro and compressed air energy storage, H2, flywheel, super-capacitors and lithium-ion storage as well as NaS advanced batteries and VRB flow battery. The main objective of the study is to find the most appropriate ESS consistent with a power quality priority. Several parameters are used for the investigation: efficiency, load management, technical maturity, costs, environmental impact and power quality.
