Abstract: Enzymatic preparations obtained from young plants and cell cultures of capulin were screened for hydroxynitrile lyase activity. The threeweek old plants, grown under sterile conditions, were used to establish a solid cell culture. Crude preparations obtained from this plant material were evaluated for the transformation of benzaldehyde to the corresponding cyanohydrin (mandelonitrile). The results show that the crude material from roots, stalks, and leaves of young plants and calli of roots, stalks, internodes and petioles biocatalyzed the addition of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) to benzaldehyde with a modest to excellent enantioselectivity.

Pharmacology & Pharmacy (PP) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/pp.2017.87015
Abstract: Autonomic innervation of heart is abnormal in diabetes and produces altered cardiovascular parameters. Cerebrolysin is a neurotrophic factor that improves the dendritic tree and synapses in the central nerve system after brain damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate if cerebrolysin can improve the cardiac neuropathy generated in diabetic rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats two months old were injected with streptozotocin (70 mg/Kg/, ip). Hyperglycemia and altered cardiac rate were confirmed after eight weeks of STZ injection, and cerebrolysin treatment was started in control and diabetic rats for two months (1 ml/kg/day, ip). Body weight, heart rate, heart rate variability, arterial blood pressure, and blood glucose levels were measured. Also heart weight and levels of nitrites, NGF and VEGF were measured in left ventricle homogenates. The results show that body weight was reduced and blood glucose levels were increased significantly in diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment produced no significant changes in body weight either in blood glucose level in control and diabetic rats. Cerebrolysin treatment in diabetic rats shows an improvement in the altered basal cardiac rate (306 ± 6.5 lat/min) compared to diabetic saline group (272 ± 8.9 lat/min: P < 0.05), without changes in control rats. Levels of nitrites, VEGF, and NGF in the left ventricle increased in diabetic cerebrolysin treated rats. In conclusion, the results show that cerebrolysin improves some abnormalities observed in the diabetic cardiac neuropathy in rats and suggest that could be considered an additional treatment to prevent or reduce the cardiac autonomic alterations generated in diabetes.

Abstract: The research was done to determine the effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ) through the dose of 150 mg·L-1, on the quality of seedlings determined by the content of chlorophyll, height, leaf area, dry matter of roots and of the aerial part of cucumber, squash, melon and watermelon. Sowing of all species carried out on October 21, 2013 in polystyrene trays with 200 cavities filled with peat moss. Treatments were the doses of 150 mg of PBZ·L-1 water and the control (distilled water). The solution with PBZ and the distilled water were applied only once with manual atomizer on cotyledonal leaves by mean of 25 shots made approximately with the same force, having put physical barriers between experimental units. In the four species (cucumber, squash, melon and watermelon) the PBZ increased the chlorophyll content in 26.0%, 14.9%, 19.4% and 26.5%, respectively, compared to the control; height decreased in 24.0%, 34.7%, 16.3% and 23.4%; leaf area decreased in 40.1, 0.5, 30.4 and 16.2%; the dry matter of roots increased in 20.0%, 62.5%, 85.7% and 19.7%; whereas in cucumber the dry matter of the aerial part increased 12.3%, in squash decreased 5.3%, and in melon and watermelon increased in the respective 22.9 and 3.3%, so that the 150 mg dose of PBZ can be used to produce seedlings with higher quality for transplant.

Abstract:

Here we investigated the effects of chronic treated with resveratrol, a polyphenol (3,4,5-trihydroxystilbene) found in more than 70 plant species and food products such as red grapes, berries and peanuts, or N-PEP-12, a mix of peptides, on arteries in aging rats. Aging rats have shown endothelial dysfunction. Aged Sprague-Dawley rats (18 months old) were treated with resveratrol (20 mg/kg/day by gavage) or N-PEP-12 (60 mg/kg/day by gavage) for 10 weeks. 24 hours after the last administration of resveratrol or N-PEP-12, the animals were weighed and diastolic and systolic blood pressure was measured by tail-cuff plethysmography. Thoracic and abdominal aorta artery segments were obtained from resveratrol-, N-PEP-12-and vehicle-treated rats and were mounted in isometric tension for isolated vessels. We found that resveratrol and N-PEP-12 improved acetylcholine-induced relaxation in the old animals. These results suggest that chronic administration of resveratrol or N-PEP-12 may in part reduce endothelial dysfunction in the aging.

Abstract: several studies in plant nutrition have been done in the past using nutrient formulations. in order to evaluate the effect of one or more nutrients on crop growth, development, yield, quality product as well as nutrient uptake, numerous studies have been carried out, without there being a generally accepted technique for this purpose. commonly, the main nutrient concentration (anion or cation) is modified, whereas the other nutrients remain at a constant level. nutrient solutions containing n-nh4+ and n-no3- are good examples of solutions with parallel changes on the anion and cation nutrient. a number of papers with systematic studies on the chemical characteristics of nutrient solutions and their effect on crops has been analyzed regarding the use of n-nh4+ and/or n-no3-. these studies did not allow to conclude either about the n-nh4+ or n-no3- direct effect or on their interaction. a nutrient solution formulation is herein proposed which, according to its factorial design structure based on the combinations of n-nh4+:cations groups with others of similar characteristics of n-no3-:anions, permits the elaboration of several nutrient solutions (treatments). the treatments allow the direct evaluation of n-nh4+ and n-no3- effects as well as their interaction, without interference of nutrient solution osmotic pressure or ph.

Abstract: Changes in the social and educational model have brought about a multicultural and multilingual school. The new context offers many possibilities and numerous learning experiences. However, at the same time, it requires an adaptation in the teaching-learning process and in the educational centres. According to the LOE’s Institutional Approaches’ regulation, the first level is the School Plan. It can be defined as a management Tool, which is coherent with the school context and which lists and defines the school’s identity guidelines, it formulates its objectives and expresses the institution’s organisational structure (Antúnez et al, 1987).Taking as a reference the school’s organisational structure that enables us to establish the identity guidelines of this new context, an intercultural education project has been carried out in the state school Carlos Ruiz de Galapagar. Pre-school and Primary graduate students at Centro Superior de Estudios Universitarios La Salle in Madrid have participated in the project with all the primary students at the Carlos Ruiz de Galapagar school. The experience has been included in the school’s Intercultural Conference which was celebrated on the second trimester of the school year, on the international day against racism and xenophobia. Together with students and teachers, the families have joined this celebration by providing own materials and objects from each culture and cooking typical dishes from each country for all the participants to taste.
