Narrazioni e generazioni
Giulia Maria Cavaletto,Manuela Olagnero
m@gm@ , 2012,
Maternal Understanding Regarding Women Nutrition during Breastfeeding  [PDF]

Health (Health) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/health.2018.1012125
Abstract: Introduction: Breastfeeding mothers’ nutritional status affects milk quality and children’s nutrition in a key period for life. Objectives: Identifying and describing breastfeeding mothers’ social representations during this period related with nutrition as self-care; connotations referred to food products and supplements; post-partum weight retention and information sources consulted on this matter. Materials and Methods: Ten in depth interviews were performed in healthy adult breastfeeding mothers. Interviews were analyzed with a qualitative methodology considering Health Beliefs, PRECEDE and Health Promotion models, employing the Grounded Theory. Results: Women consider nutrition as a health conditioning factor and refer dietary changes implementation during pregnancy, which are not always kept during breastfeeding. Disorganization was mentioned regarding feeding and commensality, prioritizing their child’s health over their own. Vegetables and liquids are attributed to positive connotations, referring increased consumption. Certain foods are limited as they are considered less healthy (“junk food”, sweets, sodas, cookies, spices, coffee and mate) while others, like milk, have been associated with negative effects. Insufficient weight gain during pregnancy is valorized as an achievement due to pairs approval and appearance. Association between breastfeeding and previous weight recovery is weak and doubted. Lack of information on feeding and breastfeeding even among health professionals is recognized. In case of doubts, mothers follow the closest belief affectively. Conclusions: Identifying and characterizing beliefs and barriers for maternal eating practices allow including socio-cultural aspects both in the design of public health policies and in individual nutritional counseling.
Some of the problems in first year students’ academic writing in some SADC Universities
MV Mpepo
Inkanyiso: Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: There are many problems that confront English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in academic writing in some Southern African Development Community (SADC) universities. Some observers and commentators have noted that most graduates from Historically Black Universities (HBUs) exhibit poor performance in English when compared to neighbouring countries like Lesotho and Swaziland. One of these problems is the low proficiency which manifests itself in numerous syntactic errors and inappropriate lexical selection in their use of the target language. The forms or varieties are simply mistakes or errors which can be eradicated by teaching. The learners need to learn and understand the structure and nature of the English language. The deviations and innovations arise owing to a number of processes which are sketched out in the paper. This article also argues that the problem stems from the fact that the burden has been placed on departments of English which seem not to want to abandon the literary tradition. It presents some of the problems that African learners of English in HBUs seem to exhibit in academic writing when they enter university education. It discusses what is done and what needs to be done for first-year students when they enter university in HBUs. In HBUs English language programmes are not mandatory or do not exist, as is the case with most SADC universities and some Historically White Universities (HWUs). The conclusion suggests that it becomes necessary to mount similar English language programmes at first year level in institutions which do not have these programmes. It is hoped that this would improve learners’ language proficiency and hopefully competence as well as the way students acquire their education.

Diaeta , 2009,
Abstract: discontinuation of enteral nutrition leads to an inadequate caloric intake, a circumstance that is aggravated by the patient's catabolic state, which in turn contributes to an impaired nutritional status. protein-energy malnutrition is associated with more complications, increased duration of hospital stay, and greater associated costs. the objective of this study is to establish the rate of inadequate delivery of prescribed enteral feedings by nasogastric tube and the reasons for inadequate delivery in hospitalized patients. a descriptive observational cross-sectional prospective study was performed from july 2008 through february 2009. the study included 43 patients hospitalized at argerich hospital in the clinical medicine, general surgery and neurosurgery wards, who were receiving enteral nutrition by nasogastric tube as the only route of feeding. overall delivery of enteral nutrition by nasogastric tube was found inadequate in 79.10% of cases (ci 95%: 64-90%). nursing staffand patient-related causes were the most common reasons for discontinuing enteral feeding (35.85% and 30.19%, respectively). patient-related causes included gastrointestinal intolerance and nasogastric tube removal. according to the results of this research, we conclude that the implementation of specific protocols should be promoted in every ward since they are a simple and effective approach and their use is clearly associated with an improvement in enteral nutrition delivery in hospitalized patients.
Short-term community dynamics in seasonal and hyperseasonal cerrados
Cianciaruso, MV.;Batalha, MA.;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842009000200002
Abstract: in south america, the largest seasonal savanna region is the brazilian cerrado. our aim was to study temporal changes in some community descriptors, such as floristic composition, richness, species density, plant density, and cylindrical volume, in a seasonal cerrado, comparing it to a nearby hyperseasonal cerrado. in four different seasons, we placed randomly ten 1 m2 quadrats in each vegetation form and sampled all the vascular plants. seasonal changes in floristic composition, species density, and plant density were less pronounced in the seasonal than in the hyperseasonal cerrado. floristic similarity between the vegetation forms was lower when the hyperseasonal cerrado was waterlogged. richness and species density were higher in the seasonal cerrado, which reached its biomass peak at mid rainy season. the hyperseasonal cerrado, in turn, reached its biomass peak at early rainy season and, despite the waterlogging, maintained it until late rainy season. in the hyperseasonal cerrado, waterlogging acts as an environmental filter restricting the number of cerrado species able to withstand it. the seasonal cerrado community was more stable than the hyperseasonal one. our results corroborated the idea that changes in the environmental filters will affect floristic composition and community structure in savannas.
A year in a Cerrado wet grassland: a non-seasonal island in a seasonal savanna environment
Cianciaruso, MV.;Batalha, MA.;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842008000300005
Abstract: in some cerrado regions where the water table is superficial and soils are hydromorphic, we may find wet grasslands. we studied temporal changes in some community descriptors, such as species density, plant density, basal area, and cylindrical volume in a cerrado wet grassland in four different seasons of the year. we also compared the species richness and composition of the wet grassland with a hyperseasonal cerrado, and a seasonal cerrado. we found significant differences among the seasons only for species density. chao-s?rensen similarity values varied from 0.86 to 0.99 and, in the wet grassland, were not different among the seasons. on the contrary, similarity values between the wet grassland and hyperseasonal and seasonal cerrados were low. species richness was lower in the wet grassland and higher in the seasonal cerrado. as long as savannas are highly dynamic on all temporal and spatial scales, the wet grassland stability, at least in a short-term view, introduces an important heterogeneity in regional scale. wet grasslands are also important in the cerrado domain to increase b-diversity, since they are floristically dissimilar with cerrado vegetation.
Robust method for stator current reconstruction from DC link in a sensorless induction motor drive
SB Bodkhe, MV Aware
International Journal of Engineering, Science and Technology , 2010,
Abstract: The electronic inverters normally operate in a current controlled mode. Current controllers are prone to errors associated with nonlinearity and offsets in the current transducers. Their successful operation requires measurement of the instantaneous values of stator currents. Using the switching signals and dc link current, this paper presents a new algorithm for the reconstruction of stator currents of an inverter-fed, three-phase induction motor drive. Unlike the classical and improved methods available in literature, the proposed method is neither based on pulse width modulation pattern modification nor is a machine model based observer and therefore is independent of demerits of existing methods like higher switching loss and increased sensitivity to parameter variations. This makes it a robust solution. The proposed algorithm makes use of simple logic gates and if-else statements and as a result it generates stable three-phase current signals even during short periods of measurement. It also carries out auto-calibration of dc link current to remove the unwanted dc-offsets that are caused due to asymmetry in switching of semiconductor devices. The proposed algorithm is tested on a 2.2 kW, current-regulated, field oriented control, induction motor drive by using MATLAB/Simulink software. The simulation results show good agreement between the reconstructed waveforms and actual waveforms under different operating conditions. Experimental result on a 2.2 kW induction motor drive, using a dSPACE 1104 controller board is presented to validate the proposed algorithm.
