Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of insulin analogs in special populations with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Modifications of the insulin molecule have resulted in two long-acting insulin analogs (glargine and detemir) and three rapid-acting insulins (aspart, lispro, and glulisine) with improved pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) profiles. These agents can be used together in basal-bolus therapy to more closely mimic physiologic insulin secretion patterns. Methods: This study reviews effects of the multiple demographic and clinical parameters in the insulin analogs glargine, detemir, lispro, aspart, and glulisine in patients with T2DM. A search was conducted on PubMed for each major topic considered (effects of injection site, age, race/ethnicity, obesity, renal or hepatic dysfunction, pregnancy, exercise, drug interactions) using the topic words and name of each type of insulin analog. Information was also obtained from the prescribing information for each insulin analog. Results: The PK/PD profiles for insulin analogs may be influenced by many variables including age, weight, and hepatic and renal function. However, these variables do not have equivalent effects on all long-acting or rapid-acting insulin analogs. Conclusion: Rapid-acting and long-acting insulin analogs represent major advances in treatment for patients with T2DM who require insulin therapy. However, there are potentially important PK and PD differences between the two long-acting agents and among the three rapid-acting insulin analogs, which should be considered when designing treatment regimens for special patient groups.

Dans le contexte actuel, les politiques publiques de soutien à la diversité sont considérées comme un facteur et un vecteur de l′équité sociale et de développement économique durable. On montrera que promouvoir le débat des langues non officialisées par l′Etat National participe de ce processus dans la mesure où s′établit alors une relation d′importance de la société avec les technologies de la communication et de l′information, ainsi que la possibilité pour les locuteurs de ces langues de se voir occuper de nouvelles places dans le dialogue politique institutionnel. Dans l′histoire du pays, ce débat met en lumière la pertinence à repenser les mécanismes de soutien et le changement possible des processus d′exclusion de nombreux groupes sociaux des espaces de participation et de représentation politique.

Abstract: En este artículo, el autor examina el recorrido operado en la Iglesia católica durante el Concilio Vaticano II. La in- fluencia del Concilio en el catolicismo en esos a os ayuda a explicar el auge de los movimientos de izquierda en la América Latina de los a os sesenta. Se comienza rescatando algunos antecedentes que ayudan a entender mejor el cambio que significó el Concilio: los Pactos de Letrán, la Nouvelle Theologie, el movimiento ecuménico y por supuesto, el impacto de la segunda guerra en Europa. Asimismo, se analizan los rasgos del pensamiento cristiano que significaron un viraje en las posiciones de la iglesia y dejaron abierta la posibilidad de diálogo con el socialismo en general.
Quantum nanomagnets and nuclear spins: an overview

Abstract: This mini-review presents a simple and accessible summary on the fascinating physics of quantum nanomagnets coupled to a nuclear spin bath. These chemically synthesized systems are an ideal test ground for the theories of decoherence in mesoscopic quantum degrees of freedom, when the coupling to the environment is local and not small. We shall focus here on the most striking quantum phenomenon that occurs in such nanomagnets, namely the tunneling of their giant spin through a high anisotropy barrier. It will be shown that perturbative treatments must be discarded, and replaced by a more sophisticated formalism where the dynamics of the nanomagnet and the nuclei that couple to it are treated together from the beginning. After a critical review of the theoretical predictions and their experimental verification, we continue with a set of experimental results that challenge our present understanding, and outline the importance of filling also this last gap in the theory.
Branching fractions and direct CP asymmetries of charmless decay modes at the Tevatron

Abstract: We present new CDF results on the branching fractions and time-integrated direct CP asymmetries for $B^{0}$ and $B^{0}_{s}$ decay modes into pairs of charmless charged hadrons (pion or kaon). The data set for this update amounts to 1 fb$^{-1}$ of $\bar{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96 \rm{TeV}$. We report the first observation of the $B^{0}_{s} \to K^{-}\pi^{+}$ mode and a measurement of its branching fraction and direct CP asymmetry. We also observe for the first time two charmless decays of $b$-baryon: $\Lambda^{0}_{b} \to p\pi^{-}$ and $\Lambda^{0}_{b} \to pK^{-}$.
A blind method to detrend instrumental systematics in exoplanetary light-curves

Abstract: The study of the atmospheres of transiting exoplanets requires a photometric precision, and repeatability, of one part in $\sim 10^4$. This is beyond the original calibration plans of current observatories, hence the necessity to disentangle the instrumental systematics from the astrophysical signals in raw datasets. Most methods used in the literature are based on an approximate instrument model. The choice of parameters of the model and their functional forms can sometimes be subjective, causing controversies in the literature. Recently, Morello et al. (2014, 2015) have developed a non-parametric detrending method that gave coherent and repeatable results when applied to Spitzer/IRAC datasets that were debated in the literature. Said method is based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA) of individual pixel time-series, hereafter "pixel-ICA". The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the limits and advantages of pixel-ICA on a series of simulated datasets with different instrument properties, and a range of jitter timescales and shapes, non-stationarity, sudden change points, etc. The performances of pixel-ICA are compared against the ones of other methods, in particular polynomial centroid division (PCD), and pixel-level decorrelation (PLD) method (Deming et al. 2014). We find that in simulated cases pixel-ICA performs as well or better than other methods, and it also guarantees a higher degree of objectivity, because of its purely statistical foundation with no prior information on the instrument systematics. The results of this paper, together with previous analyses of Spitzer/IRAC datasets, suggest that photometric precision and repeatability of one part in $10^4$ can be achieved with current infrared space instruments.
Quantum Spin Dynamics in Single-Molecule Magnets

Abstract: This thesis contains a thorough investigation of the quantum spin dynamics in Mn12-ac and Mn6 Single-molecule magnets. In particular, we have investigated the interplay between quantum tunneling of magnetization and nuclear spin dynamics in Mn12-ac by ultra-low temperature NMR experiments. We discuss the effect of quantum tunneling on the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation, the nuclear spin diffusion, the thermalization of the nuclear spins, the isotope effect, the influence of strong perpendicular fields, and we propose a model to unify all our observations. For the isotropic Mn6 molecule, we report the observation of long-range ferromagentic ordering of the cluster spins, due to dipolar interactions only. The nuclear spin dynamics provides an interesting comparison with the case of Mn12-ac. Two large introductory chapters describe the design of our ultra-low temperature setups, and the theoretical background necessary to understand the interplay between nuclear spins and quantum tunneling, with emphasis on the Prokof'ev-Stamp theory of the "spin-bath".

Abstract: the goal of the following paper is to identify the foundations, circumscribed to the productive activities, of the inner financing capacity of a capitalist firm. by adopting minsky's conception, a computational microeconomic model is proposed. the emulation of both the real and the financial side of an economy, from only one behavioral algorithm, i.e., only one type of agent, firms, is the main characteristic of the model.the results are: (i) is possible, incurring in a statistical error not bigger than 5%, to classify a firm as hedge or not-hedge, from the knowledge of only the production realization rate, the ratio between unitary cost and price and the sensibility of investment to the expected profit and; (ii) such possibility is kept dynamically.
