Abstract: Mobile radio systems have shown rapid growth and hence increase the awareness for more efficient use of spectrum. With the advancements of technology, the development of radio systems that is dynamic and efficient in terms of spectrum usage can be realized. Cognitive radio system is one of the advancement that enhanced the adaptive capabilities of the systems that make the usage of spectrum more efficient, versatile and flexible. It also able to adapt their operations based on its internal and external factors by sensing its environment. The cognitive radio systems may be a solution for the spectrum scarcity faced by developer to tackle the issue of signal propagation and bigger coverage for broadband internet access. This paper will addressed the cognitive radio technology for ubiquitous broadband wireless internet access.
Historical Developments of Financial Rights after Divorce in the Malaysian Islamic Family Law

Abstract: Islamic family law plays a significant role in minimizing the unpleasant effects of the family break up faced by the divorced women and their children by protecting their rights to financial support after divorce. This study undertakes to discuss the historical development of the financial rights after divorce applicable among the Muslims in the pre and post colonial periods, particularly with reference to the iddah maintenance, mut’ah, arrears of maintenance, and child maintenance. The study indicates that despite the provisions were inconformity with the Islamic principles, the applications were restricted and influenced by the Shafi’i madhhab. However, the amount of iddah maintenance and mut’ah were substantial taking into account the standard of living of the Malay society in the 15th and 16th century. This means that the welfare of the divorced women was taken care of since the codification of the Islamic law and its implementation in the Malay society.
The Basic Model of the Production and Shipment Policy for the Single-vendor Single-buyer when Demand Rate is Linearly Decreasing with Time

Abstract: A basic model for a supply chain in which a vendor supplies a product to a buyer is considered. The vendor manufactures the product at a finite rate and periodically ships the output to the buyer. The buyer then consumes the product at a linearly decreasing time-varying rate. Costs are attached to manufacturing batch set up, the delivery of a shipment and stockholding at the vendor and buyer. The objective is to determine the shipment policy which minimises the total cost, assuming the vendor and buyer collaborate and find a way of sharing the consequent benefits. How the optimal shipment policy may be derived when the shipments size and shipments intervalare identical is shown. These procedures are illustrated with numerical examples.
Yahya Ibn Adi on Happiness

Abstract: Yahya Ibn Adi was among Christian scholars who especially distinguished themselves in the 10/11th century in Baghdad. He was no longer relying on the caliphs but found his own means of living which in turn prolonged his own academic interest. Consequently, he was no mere translator any more but genuine scholar. He was not only the leader of his group but was also dubbed as the best Christian translator, logician and theologian of his times. This is justified, in addition, by his ample productivity in those fields of enquiry. A considerable number of such works have evidently been used by contemporary and later writers and have also reached us today. Hence, researchers consider that it is in these aspects that his distinctive contributions to scholarship lie and therefore he deserves more serious study. The present study discusses Yahya Ibn Adis theory of happiness (al-Saadah) as reflected in his major work on ethics, Tahdhib al-Akhlaq (The refinement of character). It confines itself to discussing the concept of happiness and to finding out the answer to those particular questions regarding its nature such as what is meant by happiness or what does happiness consist of? Why is happiness the end to be achieved by man and for which sake he was created? Is happiness attainable in this life or the next? Who is the happy man? and so forth.

Abstract: Among Christian scholars who especially distinguished themselves in the 10th/11th century Islamic Baghdad were Yahya Ibn Adi (d.974), Ibn Zur ah (d.1008), Ibn al-Khammar (d.1017) and Abu Ali al-Samh (d.1027). Some of these Christian translators were no longer relying on the Caliphs or other patrons of learning but often found their own means of living which in turn prolonged their own academic interest. Consequently, some of them were no mere translators any more but genuine scholars, who both kept alive the disciplines they had learnt and taught. The chief architect among them was Yahya Ibn Adi. He was not only the leader of his group but was also dubbed as the best Christian translator, logician and theologian of his times. This is justified in addition by his ample productivity in those fields of enquiry. A considerable number of such works have evidently been used by contemporary and later writers and have also reached us today. Hence, researchers consider that it is in these aspects that his distinctive contributions to scholarship lie and therefore, he deserves more serious study. This study thus, seeks to make an analytical study of Yahya Ibn Adi s theory of self-management as reflected in his major research on ethics, Tahdhib al-Akhlaq (The Refinement of Character).
Semiconductor Wastewater Treatment Using Tapioca Starch as a Natural Coagulant  [PDF]

Abstract:

The efficiency of using tapioca starch as a natural coagulant on semiconductor wastewater treatment was investigated. The silica content in the wastewater was pH dependent and it was found that the reduction of COD and turbidity occurred at pH between 12 and 14 with measurements below 100 mg/L and 100 NTU respectively. A three-level factorial design experiment in the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied to determine the influence of retention time and dosage of the tapioca starch. The parameters studied were chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity and total suspended solids (TSS). The R2 for turbidity, COD and TSS were 0.92, 0.92 and 0.77 respectively. Results indicate that the dosage of the tapioca starch has a higher influence on COD and turbidity reduction. Tapioca starch as a natural coagulant has shown that the optimum turbidity reduction was 99% at a settling time of 30 minutes with dosage of 0.1 g/L. The COD reduction was achieved at 87% after 60 min of retention time and 0.1 g/L of dosage while higher coagulant dosages reduced the TSS concentration to 10.9 mg/L at retention time between 50 to 60 minutes.

Abstract: Brainstem evoked response audiometry is a powerful diagnostic technique in audiology, otology and neurology. ABR(Auditory Brainstem Response) machine has been very useful and popular in past two decades for detection of hearing defects and pathologies in newborns and children. In ABR, wave V is the most prominent and robust wave that has been used as indicator of hearing loss. However, a fast detection of the wave V is necessary in order to implement newborn hearing screening. Researchers have introduced different kind of signal processing technique in order to achieve this target and one of this is Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Wavelet Transform. In this study, the instantaneous energy of ABR signal had been introduced as a marker to identify the ABR waves. Study showed that the instantaneous energy of auditory brainstem response can be used as a marker to identify the ABR waves. This study had proposed a platform for fast hearing screening system.

Abstract:

This paper presents the development of remotely operated Quadcopter system. The Quadcopter is controlled through a graphical user interface (GUI) where the communication between GUI and Quadcopter is constructed by using wireless communication system. The Quadcopter balancing condition is sensed by FY90 controller and IMU 5DOF sensor. For smooth landing, Quadcopter is equipped with ultrasonic sensor. All signals from sensors are processed by Arduino Uno microcontroller board and output from the Arduino Uno microcontroller board is implemented to control Quadcopter propellers. The GUI is designed using Visual Basic 2008 Express as interfacing communication between the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller and the Quadcopter system. The experiment shows that the Quadcopter system can hover while maintain it balancing and the stability is guaranteed. Moreover, the developed system is able to cope with load disturbance up to 250 gduring the hover position. Maximum operated time of Quadcopter is six minutes using 2200 mAh Lipo battery and operate time can be increased by using largest battery capacity.

Effect of calcium content on the microstructure, hardness and in-vitro corrosion behavior of biodegradable Mg-Ca binary alloy

Abstract: effect of calcium addition on microstructure, hardness value and corrosion behavior of five different mg-xca binary alloys (x = 0.7, 1, 2, 3, 4 wt. (%)) was investigated. notable refinement in microstructure of the alloy occurred with increasing calcium content. in addition, more uniform distribution of mg2ca phase was observed in a-mg matrix resulted in an increase in hardness value. the in-vitro corrosion examination using kokubo simulated body fluid showed that the addition of calcium shifted the fluid ph value to a higher level similar to those found in pure commercial mg. the high ph value amplified the formation and growth of bone-like apatite. higher percentage of ca resulted in needle-shaped growth of the apatite. electrochemical measurements in the same solution revealed that increasing ca content led to higher corrosion rates due to the formation of more cathodic mg2ca precipitate in the microstructure. the results therefore suggested that mg-0.7ca with the minimum amount of mg2ca is a good candidate for bio-implant applications.
