La participación de los galenos en actividades de superación es escasa This research was simed at exploring the degree of motivation and upgrading of the family physicians serving the population at there health areas in the city of Matanzas. 124 physicians were surveyed from March, 1996, to March, 1997. A local spectral condition for strong compactness with some applications to bilateral weighted shifts
Miguel Lacruz,Maria del Pilar Romero de la Rosa
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: An algebra of bounded linear operators on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if its unit ball is precompact in the strong operator topology, and a bounded linear operator on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if the algebra with identity generated by the operator is strongly compact. Our interest in this notion stems from the work of Lomonosov on the existence of invariant subspaces. We provide a local spectral condition that is sufficient for a bounded linear operator on a Banach space to be strongly compact. This condition is then applied to describe a large class of strongly compact, injective bilateral weighted shifts on Hilbert spaces, extending earlier work of Fern\'andez-Valles and the first author. Further applications are also derived, for instance, a strongly compact, invertible bilateral weighted shift is constructed in such a way that its inverse fails to be a strongly compact operator.
Technology Strategy and New Technology Based Firms
Montiel Campos,Héctor; del Palacio Aguirre,Itxaso; Solé Parellada,Francesc; Nu?o de la Parra,José Pablo;
Journal of technology management & innovation , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-27242009000400004
Abstract: a study of the competitive advantage in successful new technology based firms found that their technology strategy played a key role for making these companies improve their competitive advantage. we appealed to the grounded theory as a qualitative strategy to build theory, and to the exploratory case-study methodology to effectively understand this phenomenon in specific contexts as the one represented by small entrepreneurial firms in comparison with large established firms. a suitable comprehension of the different contexts required of a view of technology strategy that is more dynamic than those typically available. we build an explanatory model which integrates and groups the propositions previously developed. we view the study as exploratory to a class of studies aimed at understanding the technology strategy process in new ventures.

Role of concanavalin A lectin in recognition of pterygium remnant after surgical excision: Preliminary results of a prospective study
Diaz-Gonzalez Juan,Mayoral-Chavez Miguel,Bohorquez Paulina,de la Torre del Pilar Gabriel
Indian Journal of Ophthalmology , 2007,
Abstract: Background: Pterygium is one of the most common conjunctival diseases among ophthalmic pathologies. The frequency of recurrences is high, either after surgical treatment or after treatment combined with mitomycin C or beta-radiation therapy. Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine whether concanavalin A (ConA) lectin bound to the pterygial surface can be used to detect recurrence or remnants of pterygium after surgical excision. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective study on 20 patients with pterygium, divided in five stages, pre-surgery, early post-surgery (24h), late post-surgery (seven days), very late post-surgery (four weeks) and two months after the procedure. A drop of fluorescein-marked Con A (35 μg/mL) was instilled in the lower conjunctival eyelid sac and the eye was exposed to the light of a Wood′s lamp for an average of five seconds. Results: Out of the 20 patients, eight patients were found to have fluorescent stretch marks over the scar corresponding to residual pterygial tissue at four weeks; two months after the procedure of re-surgery we observed no fluorescent remnants. All residual pterygia were confirmed through histochemistry studies. Conclusion: It was possible to detect remnants of pterygium in postoperative patients and recurrences in early pre-clinical stages through the visualization of fluorescent ConA bound to the pterygial surface.
A Comparison of Pigments Applied in an Original Painting by El Greco and in a Copy by an Anonymous Follower
Anabelle Kri?nar,Marina del Valme Mu?oz,F. de la Paz,Miguel Angel Respaldiza
E-Preservation Science , 2011,
Abstract: El Greco (1540-1614) was a famous Renaissance artist originally from Crete whose personalized and original artistic expression gained him fame all over Europe, especially in Spain. He had many followers and his works were copied extensively. The Fine Arts Museum of Seville keeps two interesting canvases in its collection. The first one is the original El Greco work The portrait of his son Jorge Manuel (towards 1600), while the second one, The portrait of Fray Hortensio Félix de Paraviccino, was painted by an anonymous follower (2/2 16th century). The comparison of both portraits was of interest, especially with regards to the applied pigments, with the aim of finding possible similarities and differences. The elemental analysis was performed using non-destructive XRF, which permitted to examine the artworks in situ. The results of both paintings showed the use of lead white, yellow ochre, umbra, a copper-based green pigment and probably an organic red and black. But they also revealed important differences in the selection of red and blue pigments, which clearly distinguishes the original work from the anonymous one.

Introduction: the purpose of every quality control laboratory for the serological diagnosis of syphilis is to monitor the accuracy of test performance. Objective: to evaluate the proposal of a statistical model to tabulate the results of the laboratories involved in the quality control of the veneral disease research laboratories-rapid plasma reagin serology for the assessment of and customized attention to them. Methods: a model for the collection of information from the 21 laboratories of Villa Clara's provincial network in the 2006-2010 period was designed and refined until the final version was reached. The defined variables comprised Number of sent sera, Total discordant, Nonreactive Discordant, Reactive Discordant, Shipping by month and Final evaluation were defined. Evaluation criteria were set for each variable. This paper presented the evaluation of the model with information from January to March, 2011. Results: the suggested model allowed the
