Javier Ignacio Torres O.,Martha Cecilia Ochoa Osorio
Luna Azul , 2007,
Abstract: In this work, the foundations required for the comprehension of the non-ionizing (NI-EM) electromagnetic contamination phenomenon are presented, besides an approximation of the scenario produced by this kind of contamination, its environmental implications within its society-nature relationships, some of the standard regulations and recommendations, and a proposal on how to confront anthropic risk studies concerning NI-EM radiations.

APPROXIMATION OF THE URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL CONFLICT, GENERATED BY THE ELECTROMAGNETIC NON IONIZING POLLUTION IN COLOMBIA
Javier Ignacio Torres O.,Luz Elena Agudelo,Martha Cecilia Ochoa Osorio
Luna Azul , 2007,
Abstract: This work shows the fundamental basis for the approximation and understanding of urban environmental conflicts generated by the technical normative limitations in regards to legislation corresponding to the citizen exposure to non ionizing electromagnetic pollution (NI EMP). An approach to the situation related to the generation of said pollution, its legal and environmental implications within society-nature relationships, and some recommendations oriented to improve the current state of NI EMP and the conflicts being generated as a byproduct are carried out.

Scientia Et Technica , 2006,

Ferreira, Ana Cristina Soares;Suárez-Mutis, Martha Cecilia;Campos, Monica Rodrigues;Castro, Claudia Garcia Serpa Osorio de;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692011000600002
Abstract: this study aims to characterize aspects of primary health care in the amazon region of brazil, considered as the main endemic area for malaria in the country. the ministry of health recommends the expansion of primary health care in endemic areas for malaria. a survey focusing on patients infected with malaria was conducted in 6 municipalities, in january and february 2007, to investigate specific aspects of primary health care. data was analyzed quantitatively and field records helped to give support to context and policy issues in the visited sites. quality of access to health services and medicines, continuity of health care, system coordination and community orientation are still incipient in the visited areas. the study showed that there is little integration between primary health care and malaria control in the region, which calls for development of joint strategies and for the strengthening of primary health care per se, as a benefit to the population of this endemic area.

Ochoa,Johanna; Osorio,Lyda;
Biomédica , 2006,
Abstract: introduction. although urban malaria is a public health problem in colombia, little is known about its epidemiological characteristics, needed for the implementation of rational control strategies. objective. to determine the epidemiological characteristics of malaria in the urban area of the municipality of quibdó, in northwest colombia. materials and methods. malaria cases diagnosed in the city of quibdó between march and july, 2001 were classified as autochthonous or imported based on travel histories to endemic areas and place of residency. autochthonous cases were mapped and risk areas identified using sex and age standardized morbidity ratios. results. during the study period 839 malaria cases were included: 77% due to plasmodium falciparum; 19% due to p. vivax and 4% infections due to both species. 24.4% of p. falciparum cases and 39.1% of p. vivax cases were classified as autochthonous. those neighborhoods located in the southeast of the town showed the highest risk for malaria. conclusion. as in other urban areas, malaria transmission in the city of quibdo is focal and the areas with the highest risk are located near vegetation zones. these results are useful to prioritize areas for intervention and the allocation of resources.
