Neuroleptic malignant syndrome: Possible relationship between neuroleptic treatment and smoking cessation
Martín Vázquez,Ma José; Jimeno Beltrán,Teresa;
The European Journal of Psychiatry , 2007, DOI: 10.4321/S0213-61632007000400006
Abstract: we report the case of m., a schizophrenic patient who was treated with high doses of antipsychotics for a long time allowing him to be stable for years. he then decided to give up smoking and two weeks later he suffered a syndrome diagnosed as neuroleptic malignant syndrome with somatic complications. this caused his death two months after the start of the symptoms. we discuss the implications of smoking cessation in the origin of the syndrome due to a lower metabolism of psychotropic medications, which previously had been well tolerated. we conclude that it is important to take into account the smoking and caffeine intake of these patients, as well as other metabolic inductor or inhibitor drugs.

Brassinosteroids and Plant Responses to Heavy Metal Stress. An Overview  [PDF]
Miriam Nú?ez Vázquez,Yanelis Reyes Guerrero,Lisbel Martínez González,Walfredo Torres de la Noval
Open Journal of Metal (OJMetal) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojmetal.2013.32a1005
Abstract: Soil contamination with heavy metals has become a world-wide problem, leading to the loss in agricultural productivity. Plants have a remarkable ability to take up and accumulate heavy metals from their external environment and it is well known that high levels of heavy metals affect different physiological and metabolic processes. Brassinosteroids are considered as the sixth class of plant hormones and they are essential for plant growth and development. These compounds are able of inducing abiotic stress tolerance in plants. In this paper, information about brassinosteroids and plant responses to heavy metal stress is reviewed.

CARUSO FERMé,LAURA; áLVAREZ,MYRIAN; VáZQUEZ,MARTíN;
Magallania (Punta Arenas) , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22442011000100014
Abstract: the preservation of bows and arrows in the archaeological record of patagonia is rather scarce. however, in the specific case of tierra del fuego, the ethnographic information portrays a wide use of plants to manufacture these kinds of weapons. in order to overcome the biases between both records an archaeobotanical and morphometric study of a collection of bows and arrows from the museo del fin del mundo (ushuaia, argentina) has been undertaken. the main objective is to obtain information about the performance characteristics of bows and arrows used by hunter-gatherer societies who inhabited this island and to determine the necessary stages of procurement and transformation of wood materials. the results have revealed the exploitation of raw materials which have not been acknowledged up to the present.
PRáCTICAS MORTUORIAS ENTRE LOS CAZADORES-RECOLECTORES DEL CANAL BEAGLE: EL CASO DE SHAMAKUSH ENTIERRO

Magallania (Punta Arenas) , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22442008000200007
Abstract: during the last years, the archaeological research of mortuary record on the magellan- fuegian archipiélago has increased. these studies showed that mortuary practices implied a great diversity of behaviors in connection with body treatment, burial placement, number of individuáis or artifacts left by the mourners with the bodies. in this paper we focus on the analysis of a specific context, shamakush burial, located on the northern coast of the beagle channel región. this site, dated on 620 ± 60 bp, exhibit the more elabórate and complex mortuary context due to the labor invested on the arrangement of the body and to the grave goods that accompanied the body: such as lithic points, bifacial artifacts, side-scrapers, and bone artifacts. we present the analytical procedures developed to tackle this problem and we discuss the relevance of this context in the analysis of fuegian littoral societies.
Martínez-Nú?ez, Emilio;Vázquez, Saulo A.;
Química Nova , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40422002000400013
Abstract: the present review summarizes the most relevant results of our research group obtained recently in the field of unimolecular reaction dynamics. the following processes are specifically analyzed: the isomerization, dissociation and elimination in methyl nitrite, the fragmentation reactions of the mercaptomethyl cation, the c-co dissociation in the acetyl and propionyl radicals, and the decomposition of vinyl fluoride. in all the cases, only state- or energy-selected systems are considered. special emphasis is paid to the possibility of systems exhibiting non-statistical behavior.
Ramos Díaz, Martín;Vázquez Barke, Gabriela;
Secuencia , 2012,
Abstract: ignacio bravo's family correspondence reveals little-known aspects of the early years of quintana roo, certain episodes of the mexican revolution and president victoriano huerta's exile in texas. above all, general bravo's personal letters trace the lives of a family of military men in the late 19th and early 20th century in the mexico of porfirio díaz. the article reveals the discovery of hundreds of pieces of bravo's personal correspondence and provides an anthology of the information that uses new data to explain recurrent events in the regional historiography of the mexican southeast, such as the pacification of the maya, the creation of the federal territory of quintana roo on the mexico-belize border and the hostile, jungle environment for the pioneers who settled in this far-off region.
Piana,Ernesto Luis; Vázquez,Martín; álvarez,Myria;
Runa , 2008,
Abstract: the study of the archaeological site ajej i dated between 1300 and 1400 bp is the result of a rescue excavation carried out in the northern coast of the beagle channel, an area peopled by sea littoral hunter-gatherers since the seventh millennium bp. the analyses results pinpoint that the site is characterized by: a) a low redundant occupation; b) a selectivity of the pinnipeds as preys; c) a differential distribution of their anatomical parts; and d) a low diversity of activities carried with the lithic instruments. besides, these studies provided an early date to the presence of bows and arrows in such an austral region. results enable to discuss on the variability of the strategies carried on by those sea nomads.
PRáCTICAS MORTUORIAS ENTRE LOS CAZADORES-RECOLECTORES DEL CANAL BEAGLE: EL CASO DE SHAMAKUSH ENTIERRO MORTUARY PRACTICES AMONG HUNTER-GATHERERS OF THE BEAGLE CHANEL: THE CASE OF SHAMAKUSK BURIALS

Magallania , 2008,
During the last years, the archaeological research of mortuary record on the Magellan- Fuegian Archipiélago has increased.
