OCURRENCIA DE ACCIDENTES DE TRABAJO CAUSADOS POR MATERIAL CORTO-PUNZANTE ENTRE TRABAJADORES DE ENFERMERíA EN HOSPITALES DE LA REGIóN NORDESTE DE S?O PAULO, BRASIL

Abstract: this study aimed at identifying the occurrence of occupational accidents caused by cutting and piercing materials among nursing workers and the conduct adopted by hospitals with respect to accidents. it is a descriptive research carried out by evaluating occupational accidents legally notified in four hospitals in the northeastern region of s?o paulo state in 1999. data were collected through documental observation. during the studied period, 117 accidents were reported, of which 53 had been caused by cutting and piercing materials. nursing aids comprised the most frequently affected staff (8.9%¨), followed by technicians (2.8%), auxiliaries (2.7%) and nurses (2.5%). most of the accidents took place among professionals that had been working for longer than a year and who were females, married or living in concubinage, younger than 40 years old, during the morning shift and were caused by needles and scalpels (84.9%), producing lesions in the fingers (77.3%). the conducts adopted by the hospitals showed lack of guidance and knowledge concerning the adequate procedure to be followed

Abstract: this study aimed at: identifying occupational accidents caused by percutaneous injuries among nursing workers, identifying whether or not accidents were reported and at learning about the reason for non-reporting. it is a descriptive study with a quantitative analysis of the data collected through the interview technique applied to 394 nursing workers from two hospitals in s?o paulo state. the results showed that 30% of the 394 workers had an accident in 2001 and of such accidents, 277 (70.30%) were caused by percutaneous injuries, 173 (62.45%) accidents were reported and 104 (37.55%) were not reported. the reasons leading to non-reporting were related to beliefs, lack of knowledge and information concerning contamination risks and to the form of data recording.

Abstract: Este estudio tuvo como objetivos identificar la ocurrencia de accidentes de trabajo causados por material corto-punzante entre trabajadores de enfermería y la conducta adoptada por los hospitales frente al accidente. Investigación descriptiva realizada a través del levantamiento de los accidentes de trabajo notificados durante el a o de 1999 en cuatro hospitales de la región del Nordeste del Estado de S o Paulo-Brasil. Los datos fueron recolectados a través del análisis documental. Fueron notificados en el periodo estudiado 117 accidentes, de los cuales 53 fueron ocasionados por material corto-punzante. Los ayudantes de enfermería fueron los que más se accidentaron (8,9%), seguidos por los técnicos (2,8%), auxiliares (2,7%) y enfermeros (2,5%). La mayoría de los accidentes ocurren con profesionales con experiencia y con tiempo de servicio mayor de un a o, en mujeres, casadas o en unión libre, con edad inferior a 40 a os. La mayoría de las ocurrencias de los accidentes fue en el turno de la ma ana, causado por agujas o bisturíes (84,9%), provocando lesiones en los dedos (77,3%). Abstract: the patients' movement in bed, is a procedure that demand great physical effort and use of good corporal mechanics for the nursing personnel, relative of preventing them back pain problems. recognizing the importance of the movement and positioning, to promote safety and comfort to the patient, and before the professionals' complaints, described in the literature, this work has for objectives: to identify and analyzer the postures assumed by the nursing workers and identify the means and difficulties found during the execution of the referred activity. through the technique of direct observation they were filmed, through videotapes, thirty procedures of patient's movement in the bed executed by nursing workers of an orthopedic clinic of an university hospital. the results evidence that the thirty procedures were executed along 197,41 minutes and that the corporal postures more frequently assumed they were, in respect to back, arms and legs, back inclined/arms with elbow down of row of seats/legs extension (53,76%). in agreement with the beginnings of the corporal mechanics and of the ergonomics, such postures are considered painful to the man, due to the muscle-skeletal aggressions and to the physical overload that they cart. the workers aimed the aspects little space (58,82%), physical load (52,94%) and absence of the personal (47,06%), as the main difficulties found in the execution of patient's movement in the bed, corroborating with the discoveries of the literature, characterizing that activity as painful. they pointed: the adequate technique (36,29%), used of sheet (35,29%) and space adequate (23,52%), as aspects that would facilitate the execution of the procedure.
