Abstract: this article is about the study of the implicit theories regarding the text comprehension of university students and its relationship with the level of reading competence. the implicit theories become relevant because they would guide the actions of the individuals interacting with the reading competence, restricting or activating different reading strategies. to identify the implicit theories of the students a questionnaire of implicit theories on text comprehension was applied (makuc, 2009). the reading competence of the students was dealt with a battery of tests on text comprehension (parodi, 2005). this study enabled us to establish the prevalence of two implicit theories about the comprehension: the interactive and the literary; in relation to the reading competence. the students who achieved higher levels were those who adhered to the interactive implicit theory.

Abstract: the spoken language of the region of magallanes gathers a series of characteristics which give the regional speaker a cultural singularity. it is important to highlight that geography, cattle raising activity and weather, among other contextual factors that surround the people in the southern patagonia (martinic, 2006), are manifested in different ways in the dialectal variation of the region, which has preserved linguistic features from its geographical isolation condition (makuc, 2010a, martinic y buratovic, 2007). dialectal variation constitutes an aspect identifed in different studies (oroz, 1965, araya, 1973, makuc, 1999, 2008, 2010a). a relevant aspect in the conservation of linguistic variants is due to a favorable linguistic attitude which characterizes the magellan speaking community and allows that the variants at different levels of the language stay and survive in a world increasingly homogenizing. (hudson, 1981, lópez morales, 1989, 1994; silva, 1989; blas, j. 1999) the study about he attitude of the speakers towards the various manifestations of the variation of the language has been carried out from the data obtained in the cities of punta arenas, puerto natales and tierra del fuego island in the framework of the regional identity survey developed for the study of identity[2] (makuc, 2010a). the results show the prevalence of a positive attitude of the speakers towards the uses of spanish in the region, it is highly recognized and accepted the fact that magellan people have a particular way of speaking as well as an accent that distinguishes them from the rest of the inhabitants of the country, these variations of standard spanish are valued positively and as a feature that strengthens the identity of the inhabitants.

Abstract: the radio message service "mensajes para el campo" (messages for the countryside), is one of the most rooted elements in the social and cultural identity in the region of magallanes. it originates at the beginning of the radio in the twenties and was established as a channel of communication between the urban and rural areas of the region. this type of message shows elements typical of the patagonian countryside, as well as of the culture which surrounds the rancher world (martinic y buratovic, 2007). this article analyzes the linguistic elements which refer to the context of situation; since it is expressed through textual elements that define a particular type of discourse (halliday, 1975, beaugrande y dressler, 1997; renkema, 1999; alvarez, 2004). among the main findings, in the analyzed texts we observe the presence of deictic "of concealment of information" which refer to absent people, places and situations, characteristic of a discursive situation that requires the producer of these discourses to develop a series of discursive strategies characterizing of this type of messages. finally, we emphasize that the "messages for the countryside" have their own textual and defined characteristics, which re?ect not only the characteristics of the region, in terms of social function they fulfill, but also because they are part of the history of communications, radio programs that still remain and that distinguish the magellan speaking community and the radio from remote regions in patagonia patagonia.

Abstract: this article attempts to describe text comprehension processes from teachers' implicit theories. theoretically, it is suggested that the subjects elaborate theories of several domains of their experience. these theories constitute a sort of implicit knowledge that will be at the base of the subjects' decisions and actions (dienes & perner, 1999; pozo, 2001; rodrigo & correa, 2001). to achieve this, two data gathering techniques were employed: a focus group and metacognition questionnaires. the findings help identify three implicit theories: linear, interactive, and transactional. the predominance of the linear theory in the focus group findings and of the interactive theory in those of the metacognition questionnaire help infer that implicit theories guiding teachers' actions vary and adapt to contextual characteristics and to the demands they meet, activating a linear theory in teaching contexts and an interactive theory in individual reading contexts.

Abstract: in this article verbal variation is presented from a sociolinguistic approach. from this perspective of analysis, social, historie and ethnographic peculiarities of speech of a región are manifested in the use of the language at a morphological, syntactic and semantic level. in the context of the investigation about linguistic variation in magallanes it is presented the syntactic-semantic variation of the verbs that are considered patrimonial variants of the magellan community: crecer(ío) - pasar a caerr - caer(ío). from a theoretical point of view, these verbs would reflect syntactic processes of ergativity, that is to say, those linguistic processes that are characterized by making exphcit the subject of the action mentioned in the grammatical structure of the verb. at the same time, at a semantic level this process is manifested by giving a particular meaning to the verbs used by the speakers. among main conclusions, we can say that the meanings of these verbs are recognized by all the people polled, however the use is determined by the variables of age and schooling. likewise, we can also say that the syntactic-semantic variations of the verbs being studied are in an initial process of linguistic change (labov, 1983) and that would correspond to those linguistic uses that present less concentration in certain social groups.
