Parameter Selection Schemes for Web Proxy Servers and their Performance Evaluation

Abstract: Tremendous increase in number of Internet users enforces the study of bandwidth optimization parameters. Analysis of Internet uses, in the specific educational locality, has shown importance of various parameters for satisfying the requirement of users. Results based on the simulation model are presented in this study. With this approach, in present experiment, we have cached 65111 number of web documents at proxy servers so that those can be accessed locally. This leads in the saving of the Internet bandwidth required to fetch 65111 number of web objects bearing average size of 10.87 kb. The total size of these documents is 707.756 Mbytes. Effectively, the bandwidth required to fetch 707.756 Mbytes has been saved whenever there is request for these web documents. Caching web proxy servers, popularity of web objects and their reference of locality, image-storing strategies are shown to be important issues for optimizing the bandwidth utilization.
Efficient Caching Proxy Server Parameters: An Integrated Approach

Abstract: Caching web proxy server improves the performance of over all web access. Since all the parameters of efficient cache performance are time and locality dependent, no single policy of caching proxy servers is ultimate and applicable for ever. To get more and more efficient performance of caching proxies, history based analysis for a specific locality is found advantageous. Using the history based algorithm popularity of web objects was determined which then further utilized for replacement of cache objects. This approach assures service of updated documents to the clients. Soft caching was used for storing low resolution versions of images which provides efficient and effective services to the clients. Study of various formats of image storing policies have enabled us for getting memory requirements of web objects which turn is closely related to the bandwidth utilization. An integrated approach of studying caching proxy server, recording history of web access, soft caching, improve over all efficiency of web proxy servers.
Developing Genetic Algorithm Library Using Java for CFG Induction

Abstract: Grammar Induction is the process of learning grammar from training data of the positive (S+) and negative (S-) strings of the language. The paper discusses the approach to develop a library for inducing the context free grammar using Genetic Algorithms. Genetic Algorithm used for the induction library produces successive generations of individuals chromosome, computes their fitness value in every step of generation and finally select the best out of the total number of generation or when the termination condition (threshold) is meet. The library also deals with the issues in implementation of the algorithm, chromosome representation, evaluation, selection and replacement strategy and the genetic operators for crossover and mutation. The paper also addresses the solution of the problem like useless production, left recursion, left factor, and unit production etc. The library has been implemented and the results obtained for the set of various problems like balanced parenthesis, two symbol palindromes and equal number of 0s and 1s are presented.
Comparative Efficacy of Some Organic Amendments and a Nematicide (Furadan-3G) Against Root-knot on Two Local Varieties of Groundnut

Abstract: Six treatments with organic amendments like neem oil, mustard oil cake, til oil cake, garlic extract and a chemical Furadan-3G including control were tested against root-knot on two local varieties of groundnut caused by Meloidogyne javanica. Treatment with Furadan-3G as side-dressing after 7 and 14 days of inoculation gave the best response in plant growth characters including nodulation correspondingly with the lowest number of galls, adult females and different juvenile stages of the nematode within the treated plants. Neem oil gave better effect with the reduction of galls and nematode population like that of Furadan-3G. Garlic bulb extract showed comparatively higher response in promoting plant growth and suppressing the nematode. Good effects were observed with the oil cakes of mustard and til.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to highlight the combine effect of synchronous as well as asynchronous in E-learning environment. Both type of learning have importance in different scenario. Not one of them can fulfill whole requirement individually. Synchronous training is done in real-time with a live instructor facilitating the training. Everyone logs in at a set time and can communicate directly with the instructor and with each other. It lasts for a set amount of time - from a single session to several weeks, months or even years. Asynchronous is e-learning in the more traditional sense of the word. It involves self-paced learning, CD-ROM-based, Network-based, Intranet-based or Internet-based. It may include access to instructors through on-line bulletin boards, on-line discussion groups and e-mail.
Echocardiographic ventricular function evaluation in pulmonary valve insufficiency after surgical repair of Fallot tetralogy

Abstract: Background: Tetralogy of Fallot is the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease. The systolic and diastolic function in both ventricles is altered even after successful corrective surgery for this defect with a transannular patch. Pulmonary regurgitation, a common complication after this treatment, is usually well tolerated in childhood. The aim of this study was to assess the combined diastolic and systolic function of both ventricles using the Doppler-derived myocardial performance index (Tei index) in patients who underwent surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot using a transannular patch. In this article we discuss the impact of pulmonary regurgitation on right ventricular function and clinical outcome, the role of echocardiographic imaging, and current management strategies for patients with pulmonary regurgitation after this treatment. Methods: Sixty eight patients with tetralogy Fallot were studied in Shahid Rajaie referral Cardiovascular Center during 2003-2005. The studied population, 36 male and 32 female with a mean age of 7.5±4 years and a history of corrective surgery for tetralogy of Fallot using a transannular patch. These patients were randomly selected and assessed by Doppler echocardiography. Results: Fifty-seven patients (84%) had mild to moderate pulmonary regurgitation, whereas 11 patients (16%) had severe pulmonary regurgitation. Right ventricular Tei index was significantly increased in patients with severe pulmonary regurgitation compared those with mild to moderate pulmonary regurgitation (0.54±0.18 vs 0.24±0.11, P<0.01). Left ventricular Tei index was increased in patients with severe pulmonary regurgitation compared those with mild to moderate pulmonary regurgitation (0.46±0.22 vs 0.32±0.14, P<0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that pulmonary regurgitation is a serious complication after repair of tetralogy of Fallot with a transannular patch. Delaying surgery in such patients risks irreversible ventricular function.
Isolation and Characterization of Antibacterial Peptides from the Mud-crab, Scylla serrata

Abstract: Both induced and non-induced hemolymphs were collected from the mud-crab, Scylla serrata and were subjected to antibacterial assay to investigate the presence of inducible and constitutive antibacterial protein(s). Induction was done by injecting Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The induced hemolymph showed antibacterial activity against a range of different strains of marine or non-marine gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria including few antibiotic resistant strains, whereas the non-induced hemolymph was not appeared to be active against those tested. The induced hemolymph was subjected to SDS-PAGE and seven proteins were detected. The molecular weight of which were in the range from 36 to 84.5 kDa. The hemolymph proteins were fractionated by gel filtration chromatography. Repeated antibacterial assay of the chromatographic fractions against previously proved hemolymph sensitive bacteria showed that only a few fractions were responsible for the activity and that the fraction purified proteins showed better activity than the crude hemolymph. Total five different proteins were present in all the fractions detected by SDS-PAGE analysis. The molecular weights were 64 kDa, 61 kDa, 56.5 kDa, 49 kDa and 36 kDa.
Toxicidade para lagartas de Phthorimaea operculella (Zell.) dos aleloquímicos 2-tridecanona e 2-undecanona presentes em tomateiro (Lycopersicon spp.)

Abstract: this research deals with the toxicity of 2-tridecanone and 2-undecanone allelochemicals, present in the grandular trichomes of lycopersicon spp., to phthorimaea operculella (zell.). the toxicity of the exsudates of l. hirsutum f. glabratum pi 134117 (ld50), of the 2-tridecanone (lethal dose: ld50and lethal concentration: lc50) and 2-undecanone (lc50) to first instar larvae of this pest were determined. the ld50value was 5.54 glands and 775.53 ng per larvae, respectively. with respect to the lethal concentration, the 2-tridecanone was more toxic than the 2-undecanone. the toxicity (cl50) of the 2-tridecanone increased with the elevation of the temperature from 27 to 32°c, but decreased with the 2-undecanone. it was concluded that these compounds can have great importance in the resistance of the tomato plant to this pest.

Abstract: This study presents an overview of optical communication in the emerging world of telecommunication technologies. Some network approaches in achieving the potentials of the optical communication have been highlighted. Increased focus on photonics is drastically revolutionizing communication systems and is expected to form the next generation of information based technologies with optical communication base. With increased demand on bandwidth, optical network will continue to play a leading role in the future success of telecommunication which is the driving force of globalization.
