Abstract: i was born a woman, the life of mame is the dramatization a fictitious intergenerational story. however, the story is based on true events and the feelings of real immigrant women. the dramatization narrates the life of a woman, from the time her parents-who had recently emigrated from senegal-settled in andalusia, up to the adolescence of mame's own daughter. the story is told with one person on stage who, through the use of three costume changes, plays three different generations of women: mother, daughter and granddaughter, with the video-recorded testimonies of other characters (a teacher and a midwife), who express their views of the host society against a background of african music and pictures of their native country. the present article describes their goals, such as communication in conferences, and includes a concise summary of the script, reflections on the process of integrating, and the evaluation made after a performance.
Messari, Nizar;
Contexto Internacional , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-85292004000200002
Abstract: the author tries to explain why intra-state conflicts are less likely to be successfully concluded by peaceful settlements than inter-state conflicts. the author affirms that his main hypothesis is that those peace processes fail because they insist on building states as the only possible political space. the author argues that the missing link in the existing literature on conflict resolution is the social construction of identities involved in such conflicts. he discusses how different authors deal with identity construction before he settles for a position defended by habermas, which relies on new ideas on communication, politics and the state. the author concludes his argument by evaluating the dayton agreement in bosnia. according to the author, the dayton agreement cannot be evaluated as a failure since they managed to cease the hostilities and to begin the construction of a new political process that does not necessarily coincide with the state. the author presents the bosnian evolution as a model to what might happen in iraq after the us invasion in 2003.
Costa,M. Victoria;
Revista latinoamericana de filosof?-a , 2007,
Abstract: this paper examines john rawls' account of human rights, its basis, and the role that it plays in the wider context of his theory of international justice. it argues that the principle "peoples are to honor human rights" is qualitatively different from the rest of the principles of the law of peoples and requires a different justification. after discussing rawls' arguments in favor of the selection of this principle and pointing out their limitations, it presents the guidelines for an alternative strategy to defend human rights that takes into account their role in the international public political culture.
IMAGINARIOS DEL MIEDO EN EL CONTEXTO URBANO DE MANIZALES: IMPLICACIONES MEDIOAMBIENTALES
Valencia M. Victoria Eugenia

Data Load Manifestation In Process Chains In SAP Business Ware House
M. Victoria Hebseeba
Advanced Computing : an International Journal , 2012,
Abstract: This paper describes a unique technique to display the run times of the process chains, number of records transferred to each target, frequency and other details. We do not have any ready option provided by SAP to display all these details for multiple process chains in one place as displayed here. This customised report developed using business content info cubes helps us to analyse the run times for the loads in process chains and derive conclusions on the performance, data, frequency and other details. Report allows us to choose the result as per our requirement by providing the selection criteria in the selection screen.
This paper examines John Rawls' account of human rights, its basis, and the role that it plays in the wider context of his theory of international justice.
Pathways to Bilingualism: Young Children’s Home Experiences Learning English and Spanish
M. Victoria Rodríguez
Early Childhood Research & Practice , 2010,
Abstract: Nowadays, more and more young children in the United States have the experience of speaking a language other than English at home, and many parents choose to educate their children bilingually. This study explored the home-language experiences, in English and Spanish, of three young Latino girls ages 15 months, 16 months, and 30 months, respectively, when the study began. They were observed at home between 40 and 70 hours for 30 months. Three questions guided the study: (1) What languages are used at home and for what purposes? (2) Who addresses the participant children in English and Spanish? and (3) How do the participants express themselves in English and Spanish? The data suggest that the three participants received input in English and Spanish based on the bilingual characteristics of the families. However, as they grew older and their proficiency in English improved, the input in Spanish diminished, as well as their ability to speak Spanish. At the end of the study, the three participants understood English and Spanish, one spoke English and Spanish when prompted, one spoke only in English, and another one spoke in both languages without being prompted. This study suggests that raising children bilingually may require support of the minority language outside the home, with collaboration among the schools, the families, and the community.
Grand Unification in Neutron Stars
Victoria M. Kaspi
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1073/pnas.1000812107
Abstract: The last decade has shown us that the observational properties of neutron stars are remarkably diverse. From magnetars to rotating radio transients, from radio pulsars to `isolated neutron stars,' from central compact objects to millisecond pulsars, observational manifestations of neutron stars are surprisingly varied, with most properties totally unpredicted. The challenge is to establish an overarching physical theory of neutron stars and their birth properties that can explain this great diversity. Here I survey the disparate neutron stars classes, describe their properties, and highlight results made possible by the Chandra X-ray Observatory, in celebration of its tenth anniversary. Finally, I describe the current status of efforts at physical `grand unification' of this wealth of observational phenomena, and comment on possibilities for Chandra's next decade in this field.
