Abstract: Purpose: The description of a new method of rubber parts wear testing especially wear of tyre treads is the main aim of this paper. Understanding of wear procedure could help to improve the quality of tyres and other rubber parts working in heavy terrain conditions.Design/methodology/approach: For that purpose testing equipment was designed and constructed. New method of testing of wear resistance based on gravimetric determination of mass loss of testing part during the test period was prepared and well – proven. Behaviour of testing samples during the test was monitored using high speed video camera.Findings: Because of complexity of this problem it would be very useful to continue this research and to describe in details the wear procedure using the new testing methods. Monitoring of wear progress by high speed video – camera may be one of the significant methods.Practical implications: The main benefit for praxis could be seen in new testing method which makes comparing different rubber compounds possible from the point of view of their wear (Chip - Chunk) resistance.Originality/value: Completely new in this paper is also monitoring of wear process using high speed video - camera.
Axial phase of quantum fluids in nanotubes

Abstract: We explore the equations of state and other properties of various quantum fluids (3He, 4He, their mixtures, and H_2) confined within individual carbon nanotubes. Above a threshold number of particles, N_a, the fluid density near the axis begins to grow above a negligibly small value. The properties of this axial fluid phase are sensitive to the tube size and hence to the transverse compression in the case of a bundle of nanotubes. We consider He at zero temperature and H_2 at low temperatures.
Dobson, Brewer, ERA-40 and ERA-Interim original and merged total ozone data sets – evaluation of differences: a case study, Hradec Králové (Czech), 1961–2010

Abstract: Homogenized data series of total ozone measurements taken by the regularly and well calibrated Dobson and Brewer spectrophotometers at Hradec Králové (Czech) and the data from the re-analyses ERA-40 and ERA-Interim were merged and compared to investigate differences between the particular data sets originated in Central Europe, the Northern Hemisphere (NH) mid-latitudes. The Dobson-to-Brewer transfer function and the algorithm for approximation of the data from the re-analyses were developed, tested and applied for creation of instrumentally consistent and completed total ozone data series of the 50-yr period 1961–2010 of observations. This correction has reduced the well-known seasonal differences between Dobson and Brewer data below the 1% calibration limit of the spectrophotometers. Incorporation of the ERA-40 and ERA-Interim total ozone data on days with missing measurements significantly improved completeness and reliability of the data series mainly in the first two decades of the period concerned. Consistent behaviour of the original and corrected/merged data sets was found in the pre-ozone-hole period (1961–1985). In the post-Pinatubo (1994–2010) era the data series show seasonal differences that can introduce uncertainty in estimation of ozone recovery mainly in the winter-spring season when the effect of the Montreal Protocol and its Amendments is expected. All the data sets confirm substantial depletion of ozone also in the summer months that gives rise to the question about its origin. The merged and completed data series of total ozone will be further analyzed to quantify chemical ozone losses and contribution of natural atmospheric processes to the ozone depletion over the region. This case study points out the importance of selection and evaluation of the quality and consistency of the input data sets used in estimation of long-term ozone changes including recovery of the ozone layer over the selected areas. Nonequilibrium Green's functions approach to strongly correlated few-electron quantum dots

Abstract: The effect of electron-electron scattering on the equilibrium properties of few-electron quantum dots is investigated by means of nonequilibrium Green's functions theory. The ground and equilibrium state is self-consistently computed from the Matsubara (imaginary time) Green's function for the spatially inhomogeneous quantum dot system whose constituent charge carriers are treated as spin-polarized. To include correlations, the Dyson equation is solved, starting from a Hartree-Fock reference state, within a conserving (second order) self-energy approximation where direct and exchange contributions to the electron-electron interaction are included on the same footing. We present results for the zero and finite temperature charge carrier density, the orbital-resolved distribution functions and the self-consistent total energies and spectral functions for isotropic, two-dimensional parabolic confinement as well as for the limit of large anisotropy--quasi-one-dimensional entrapment. For the considered quantum dots with N=2, 3 and 6 electrons, the analysis comprises the crossover from Fermi gas/liquid (at large carrier density) to Wigner molecule or crystal behavior (in the low-density limit).
Programming system for rapid evaluation of coal deposits

Abstract: Programming system for rapid evaluation of coal deposits (calculation of coal reserves) based on data stored in coal deposit database including processing of textual and graphic outputs was elaborated. The nature of such outputs is based on conventional coal reserve calculations so that connection with coal reserve calculations made in the past is secured. Differences in particular coal deposits as well as in individual coal seams are respected in the system. Coal seams differ one from another in their development by variability of seam thickness and seam quality within coal deposit etc. In addition to this, coal deposits are disturbed by tectonic failures and deformations. The system of evaluation of coal deposits is based on development of planar models of particular seams where calculation blocks are created and coal reserves contained in them are determined. Subsequently coal reserves of particular seams and of the whole deposit are determined. Natural limitation of seam model is given by determined minimum seam thickness and maximum ash content (i.e. content of inorganic component in coal). Basic model is structured according to detected main tectonic lines into tectonic blocks. According to further geological factors (e.g. erosion) and contractual boundaries (e.g. demarcations), the deposit is structured into smaller units - calculation blocks. The whole system operates in a maximum automated regime with minimum manual interventions into solving procedure. The system enables rapid alternative calculations of coal reserves according to varying limit values of basic calculation parameters.

Abstract: In the paper, methodics of creating a model for different type of the coal deposit is described, including the processing of reserves text and graphic outputs. It is also useful in cases of the deposit with a great number of seams of various thicknesses that is heavily tectonically disturbed and divided into tectonic blocks. The development of seams is variable in both the thickness and quality. Splitting of the seams occurs, separate benches are formed and, on the contrary, connected into one seam.

Abstract: D sledkem integrace eské republiky do evropskych struktur a s ní spojené reformy ve ejné správy bylo vyrazné posílení pozice měst a obcí a ve ejné politiky realizované na jejich územích místní samosprávou. Její p ístup k jednotlivym oblastem ve ejné politiky, tedy i sportu, pak následně vyrazně ovlivňuje prost edí a kvalitu ivota v jimi spravované oblasti. P íspěvek prezentuje p ípravu a úvodní vysledky vyzkumu zamě eného na p ístup místní samosprávy k oblasti sportu na území hlavního města Prahy. The significant enforcing of the position of towns and municipalities and public policies realized in its territory by the local municipal authorities were a result of the integration of the Czech Republic into the European structures and the related reformation of the public administration. The approach of the local municipal authorities to the individual fields of public policy, thus sports as well, then significantly affects the environment and quality of life in the pertinent area. This paper presents the preparation and introductory results of a research project focused on the approach of the local municipal authorities to sports in the territory of the capital city of Prague. The research is based on the content analysis of specialized documents, and the in depth interviews with the responsible employees of the authorities. The preliminary findings outline the position of sports in public policies and its organizational, financial and personnel background within the organizational structures of the authorities. The results point out the different approaches of the local authorities to sports and the influence of financial limitations, stated priorities, and also personal preferences of the individual representatives.
