Abstract: The safety of statin therapy is considered. In particular the reasons of a complication such as myopathy are discussed in detail. The molecular mechanisms of statin myopathy, as well as its risk factors are presented. The role of coenzyme Q10 in the myopathy development and coenzyme Q10 application for the prevention of this complication are considered.

Abstract: Structure refinement of high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction data of the title compound gave the composition Li1.865CoP2O7, which is also verified by the ICP measurement. Two Co sites exist in the structure: one is a CoO5 square pyramid and the other is a CoO6 octahedron. They share edges and are further interconnected through P2O7 groups, forming a three-dimensional framework, which exhibits different kinds of intersecting tunnels containing Li cations and could be of great interest in Li ion battery chemistry. The structure also exhibits cation disorder with 13.5% Co residing at the lithium (Li1) site. Co seems to have an average oxidation state of 2.135, as obtained from the strutural stochiometry that closely supports the magnetic susceptibility findings.

Franz Josef Land: extreme northern outpost for Arctic fishes

Abstract: The remote Franz Josef Land (FJL) Archipelago is the most northerly land in Eurasia and its fish fauna, particularly in nearshore habitats, has been poorly studied. An interdisciplinary expedition to FJL in summer 2013 used scuba, seines, and plankton nets to comprehensively study the nearshore fish fauna of the archipelago. We present some of the first underwater images for many of these species in their natural habitats. In addition, deep water drop cameras were deployed between 32 and 392 m to document the fish fauna and their associated habitats at deeper depths. Due to its high latitude (79°–82°N), extensive ice cover, and low water temperatures (<0 °C much of the year), the fish diversity at FJL is low compared to other areas of the Barents Sea. Sixteen species of fishes from seven families were documented on the expedition, including two species previously unknown to the region. One Greenland shark, Somniosus microcephalus (Somniosidae), ca. 2 m in length, was recorded by drop camera near Hayes Island at 211 m, and Esipov’s pout, Gymnelus esipovi (Zoarcidae), was collected at Wilton Island at 15 m in a kelp forest. Including the tape-body pout, Gymnelus taeniatus, described earlier from the sub-littoral zone of Kuhn Island, 17 fish species are now known from FJL’s nearshore waters. Species endemic to the Arctic accounted for 75% of the nearshore species observed, followed by species with wider ranges. A total of 43 species from 15 families are known from FJL with the majority of the records from offshore trawl surveys between 110 and 620 m. Resident species have mainly high Arctic distributions, while transient species visit the archipelago to feed (e.g., Greenland shark), and others are brought by currents as larvae and later migrate to spawn grounds in the south (e.g., Atlantic cod Gadus morhua, Capelin Mallotus villosus, Beaked redfish Sebastes mentella). Another species group includes warmer-water fishes that are rare waifs (e.g., Glacier lanternfish Benthosema glaciale, White barracudina Arctozenus rissoi). The rapid warming of the Arctic will likely result in significant changes to the entire ecosystem and this study therefore serves as an important baseline for the nearshore fish assemblages in this unique and fragile region.

Abstract: Gray–green single crystals were obtained under high-pressure, high-temperature hydrothermal conditions. A refinement of atom occupancies gave the composition Li3.68Cu2+Fe3+(Cu0.55Li0.45)2Fe2+0.15(PO4)4. The structure is built from triplets of edge-sharing (Cu,Li)O5–FeO6–(Cu,Li)O5 polyhedra, CuO4 quadrilaterals and PO4 tetrahedra. In the (Cu,Li)O5 polyhedra the Cu and Li positions are statistically occupied in a 0.551 (2):0.449 (2) ratio. Both FeO6 and CuO4 polyhedra exhibit overline1 symmetry. The positions of additional Li atoms with vacancy defects are in the interstices of the framework.

Abstract: The prevalence of the virulence genes (iceA, cagA, babA2, vacA) in the Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from patients with clinic and histologically proved diagnosis of gastric and duodenal ulcer as well as the distinction of the IL-1 genes in the helicobacter carriers were studied. VacA s1/m2 iceA1 cagA+ and vacA s1/m2 iceA1 cagA+ babA2 genotypes of H. pylori were shown to be the prevalent in the clinic isolates. Four patients were found to be infected with Ureaplasma urealyticum. The combination of the IL-1B-511*?/IL-1B+3954*C/IL-1RN*2 alleles was shown to be the prevalent among the patients with gastric and duodenal ulcer. The correlation between the H. pylori genotypes, the IL-1 genes and the ulcer particularity was not found.
