Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment , 2013,
Abstract: Massimo Salviati, Francesco Saverio Bersani, Francesco Macrì, Marta Fojanesi, Amedeo Minichino, Mariana Gallo, Francesco De Michele, Roberto Delle Chiaie, Massimo BiondiDepartment of Neurology and Psychiatry, Sapienza University of Rome, Rome, ItalyAbstract: Delusional misidentification syndromes are a group of delusional phenomena in which patients misidentify familiar persons, objects, or themselves, believing that they have been replaced or transformed. In 25%–40% of cases, misidentification syndromes have been reported in association with organic illness. We report an acute episode of Capgras-like delusion lasting 8 days, focused on the idea that people were robots with human bodies, in association with an acute urinary infection. To our knowledge, this is the first case report associating urinary tract infection with Capgras-like syndrome. Awareness of the prevalence of delusional misidentification syndromes associated with acute medical illness should promote diligence on the part of clinicians in recognizing this disorder. Keywords: delusional misidentification, Capgras syndrome, urinary tract infection, psychosis

New approach to peritoneal surface malignancies
Antonio Macrì
World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology , 2010,
Abstract: Peritoneal surface malignancies (PSM) are a clinical entity with an unfavourable prognosis. They comprise peritoneal carcinomatosis, pseudomyxoma peritonei, and primitive tumors of the peritoneum. Because the treatment of PSM presents unique and challenging problems to the cancer clinician, many new approaches have been attempted in recent years. In the current and next issues of World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, some international groups of researchers discuss the most important and innovative aspects of PSM treatment, with particular accuracy for cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. In conclusion, because this new approach to PSM has a reputation for being based more on common sense than on experimental data, I hope that highlighting this topic can make a contribution to the treatment of this group of diseases.
The Supervision of the city financial administration. The audit in Palermo under the Spanish Monarchy
The financial administration of the Sicilian Reign and the surveillance system applied on it from the Spanish Crown are well investigated. On the contrary, the technical and institutional innovations for the administration of the city finances were still not clear. This article focuses on the solutions to the problems concerning the city financial administration found by the governors of Palermo during the second half of the XVI century. The administration had to be surpervised by the Viceroy sent from Spain and the fiscal contribution to the Crown had to be guaranteed. For these reasons, the palermitan Town council introduced the use of a ledger (libro bilanciato), the double entry bookkeeping system in the municipal administration, and established the office of the Razionale (that is to say an auditor). The Viceroys established the tasks of the new officer and the number and kind of books that he had to keep. The Viceroys reforms spread and put into effect the working instruments of the castilian Hacienda real. As far as the improvement of the administrative structures is concerned, these reforms connected Sicily to the wider context of the Spanish imperial system.

A generalized Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality for the three-dimensional projective space
Emanuele Macrì
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: A generalized Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality for tilt-stable complexes on a smooth projective threefold was conjectured by Bayer, Toda, and the author. We show that such inequality holds true in general, if it holds true when the polarization is sufficiently small. As an application, we prove it for the three-dimensional projective space.
Formality and symplectic structures of almost abelian solvmanifolds
Maura Macrì
Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In this paper we study some properties of almost abelian solvmanifolds using minimal models associated to a fibration. In particular we state a necessary and sufficient condition to formality and a method for finding symplectic strucures of this kind of solvmanifolds.
Cohomological properties of unimodular six dimensional solvable Lie algebras
Maura Macrì
Mathematics , 2011,
Abstract: In the present paper we study six dimensional solvable Lie algebras with special emphasis on those admitting a symplectic structure. We list all the symplectic structures that they admit and we compute their Betti numbers finding some properties about the codimension of the nilradical. Next, we consider the conjecture of Guan about step of nilpotency of a symplectic solvmanifold finding that it is true for all six dimensional unimodular solvable Lie algebras. Finally, we consider some cohomologies for symplectic manifolds introduced by Tseng and Yau in the context of symplectic Hogde theory and we use them to determine some six dimensional solvmanifolds for which the Hard Lefschetz property holds.
