Quantum turbulence in coflow of superfluid ${}^4$He

Abstract: We study numerically nonuniform quantum turbulence of coflow in a square channel by the vortex filament model. Coflow means that superfluid velocity $\bm{v}_s$ and normal fluid velocity $\bm{v}_n$ flow in the same direction. Quantum turbulence for thermal counterflow has been long studied theoretically and experimentally. In recent years, experiments of coflow are performed to observe different features from thermal counterflow. By supposing that $\bm{v}_s$ is uniform and $\bm{v}_n$ takes the Hagen-Poiseiulle profile, our simulation finds that quantized vortices are distributed inhomogeneously. Vortices like to accumulate on the surface of a cylinder with $\bm{v}_s \simeq \bm{v}_n$. Consequently, the vortex configuration becomes degenerate from three-dimensional to two-dimensional.
High speed twin roll casting of Al-3Si-0.6Mg strip

Abstract: Purpose: Purpose of this paper is to clear the possibility of high speed roll casting of thin strip of Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg alloy. Investigation of the mechanical properties of the roll cast Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg strip was purpose, too.Design/methodology/approach: Method used in the present study was high speed twin roll caster and low temperature casting. These methods were used to realize rapid solidification, and increase of casting speed.Findings: Findings are that Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg was could be cast at speed of 60 m/min. This strip was 3.1 mm-thick. As cast strip could be cold-rolled down to sheet of 1 mm-thick. 180 degrees bending test was operated on the sheet after T4 heat treatment and crack was not occurred at the outer surface.Research limitations/implications: Research limitation is that the width of the strip was 100 mm and investigation of the properties was not enough for practical use. Wider strip must be cast using the twin roll caster of the size for production.Practical implications: Practical implications are as below. The economy sheet for the auto mobile can be produced by the high speed twin roll caster. Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg can be used both the casting and plastic forming. Therefore, fractionation in the recycle of the aluminum alloy will becomes easy. The content of Fe in the recycled aluminum alloy increases. Fe becomes intermetallic of AlSiFe. Si for Mg2Si becomes deficient. 3%Si was enough for Mg2Si if AlSiFe was precipitated. Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg is suitable for recycle.Originality/value: The result means the roll cast Al-3%Si-0.6%Mg has ability to be used as the body sheet of the auto mobile.

High speed twin roll casting of 6016 strip

Abstract: Purpose: of this paper is to clear the possibility of high speed roll casting of thin aluminum alloy strip. 6016aluminum alloy is used for sheet metal of the automobile. Therefore, casting of 6016 was tried in this study.Castability and characteristics of roll cast 6016 strip were investigated.Design/methodology/approach: was a high speed twin roll caster. The high speed twin roll caster was designedto overcome the low castability of the twin roll caster.Findings: are as below. The 6016 could be cast at speed of 60 m/min. The thickness of the 6016 was 3 mm.The microstructure at as-cast and after T6 heat treatment was shown. The microstructure was very fine by theeffect of the rapid solidification. The mechanical properties were investigated by the tension test and 180 degreesbending test. The as-cast strip could be cold rolled down to 1 mm without homogenization. The result of tensiontest (gage length 50mm) of T4 strip was as below, tensile stress was 242 MPa, proof stress was 123 MPa andelongation was 26%. There was no crack at the outer surface of 180-degree-bent strip until contact. This showsthe strip endure the hem forming.Research limitations/implications: is the width of the strip was 100 mm. The test using a large scale twin rollcaster must be operated.Practical implications: are as below. The mechanical properties of the roll-cast 6016 were enough for the sheetmetal for the automobile. The low productivity of the twin roll caster could be improved, and economy 6016strip was able to produce.Originality/value: is that 6016 strip could be cast at speed 60 m/min and this strip had good mechanicalproperties.

Abstract: the central issue discussed in this article is whether a judge has a legal duty to decide in an specific manner in cases of legal lacunae, to use h. l. a. hart's expression, or in hard cases, to use ronald dworkin's expression. it argues that, though both hart and dworkin admit a weak form of judicial discretion, they hold opposite views on the existence of that duty. by adopting a notion of legal completeness, which may disagree with a social rule of recognition, and by including non-conventional principles in the concept of law, dworkin offers the justification for that judicial duty. he also offers objective criteria of judicial decision even in hard cases.

Abstract:

The shallow reflection surveys were carried out in 2007 and 2010 austral summers in East Ongul Island, the Lützow-Holm Complex (LHC), East Antarctica. LHC is identified by geologically as one of the Pan-African terrains of Eastern Dronning Maud Land. The multi-channel reflection surveys targeted to achieve the image of laminated layering of metamorphic rocks near the surface (the depths down to a few hundreds of meters) of the crystalline crust. Two surveys were conducted in total length of the profiles about 500 m along a main traffic load across the East Ongul Island. The multi-channel acquisition systems were utilized with combining the dense geophones along the profiles. Seismic sources were adopted by combining the boom of a power shovel, a weight drop and hammer shots with their intervals in a few tens of meters. The obtained data include clear first P-arrivals in far offset distance. The energy of P-S converted waves was enhanced because of the characteristics of the seismic sources. Pre-stacked images could be expected to the information on metamorphic layering for several lithological structure composed by hornblende gneiss, garnet gneiss and pyroxene gneiss appearing as the surface bedrocks. The conducted shallow reflection surveys would give rise to one step for understanding tectonic formation of LHC, as one of the Pan-African mobile belts in Gondwana super-continent.

Development of a Retractor Holding Device to Reduce the Manpower in Total Hip Arthroplasty through Direct Anterior Approach  [PDF]

Abstract: Direct anterior approach (DAA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a minimally invasive technique. In this approach, two assistants are necessary. We developed a retractor holding device called “Spider arm” to replace an assistant in the contra-lateral side. In this study, we investigated the usefulness of Spider arm in THA through direct anterior approach. 20 hips were operated without Spider arm and 21 hips were operated with Spider arm. The surgery time and the blood loss were compared. The cup position and leg length discrepancy were measured on radiography. There was no statistical significance between two groups in all parameters. No clinical complications were reported. With Spider arm, DAA-THA could be performed by two surgeons without deterioration of the surgery time and blood loss. The accuracy of cup position and leg length discrepancy was not affected. Spider arm can contribute to reducing the manpower in DAA-THA.
