Abstract: Elephant grass is a tropical forage plant widely spread in Brazil, used mainly in the livestock sector and in cattle feeding. Because of its high productivity and photosynthetic capacity, this culture has also been considered an alternative source of renewable energy. Six clones of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) were evaluated under five levels of nitrogen fertilization (100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 kg·N·ha-1), in a randomized-block design with a split-plot arrangement with three replicates, from April 2010 to December 2012, in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes— RJ, Brazil. The objective was to obtain estimates of variation in morpho-agronomic traits and biomass quality. We observed that genotypes Cameroon-Piracicaba and Gua?u I/Z2 have great potential to be used, with maximum dry matter yields of 60.97 and 44.10 t·ha-1 per cut for energy purposes among the studied genotypes.

Duarte, Mnica de Almeida;Mazzotti, Tarso Bonilha;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302006000400010
Abstract: the present work aims at tackling the perceptive phenomenon present in the negotiation processes of the meaning of music. such negotiation processes are mediated by symbolic and representational processes, as moscovici presented them in his social representation theory. in this perspective, music education practices are products of the social representations of music and can approximate or separate teachers and students.

Revista Brasileira de Terapia Intensiva , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-507X2009000100011
Abstract: the study intended to make a critical review on use of pulmonary hyperventilation maneuvers and the different positive end-expiratory pressures applied to traumatic brain injury patients. as a reference were used publications in english, spanish and portuguese, contained in the following databases: medline, scielo and lilacs, from 2000 to 2007, we included all studies about the use of pulmonary hyperventilation maneuvers and the different positive end-expiratory levels used for adult patients with brain injury at acute or chronic stage. thirty one trials were selected, 13 about pulmonary hyperventilation, as prophylaxis, prolonged or optimized and 9 shows the levels of positive end-expiratory pressures used, ranging from 0 to 15 cmh2o. the prophylactic hyperventilation maneuver in the first 24 hours can lead to an increase of cerebral ischemia; the prolonged hyperventilation must be avoided if intracranial pressure did not increase; however optimized hyperventilation seems to be the most promising technique for control of the intracranial pressure and cerebral perfusion pressure; the rise of the positive end-expiratory pressure, up to 15cmh2o, can be applied in a conscientious form aiming to increase arterial oxygen saturation in lung injury.

Brazilian Journal of Operations & Production Management , 2010,
Abstract: Electronic Government is a term that refers to governmental policies and strategies, as well as to concrete initiatives that represent a government’s commitment to Management by means of the intensive use of Information Technology (IT). Since public managers are being increasingly pressed to find ways of reducing costs and improving results, it is important to observe that the potential benefits of Electronic Government are linked to costs and risks that must be balanced and carefully monitored. This study proposes a multi-criterion model so as to prioritize Electronic Government projects, the scope of which is to provide electronic services from Government to Citizen - G2C (initiatives on behalf of citizens and companies). Particularly in the phase of structuring a problem, the model proposed makes use of a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in the context of Multiple Criteria Decision-aid (MCDA). To illustrate how to apply the model, simulations using the PROMETHEE method were conducted. The study demonstrated that, in the context of the governance model proposed, some conditions should be taken into account in order to integrate the use of BSC and MCDA. The model can be applied to public and private organizations, irrespective of the area of activity, with minimal adaptation.

Abstract: Introduction: Among the extrinsic factors, homocysteine (Hy) stands out, which is an intermediate amino acid of the intracellular metabolism of methionine involved in the process of cellular oxidation, which promotes the installation of atheromatous plaques and, therefore, is considered as an emerging cardiovascular risk factor. Objective: To evaluate the plasma homocysteine levels (Hy) in overweight or obese children and adolescents and their relation with cardiovascular risk factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2011 to May 2012 with overweight or obesity children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years followed at the Center for Childhood Obesity (IOC), Campina Grande-PB. A structured form was used to record demographic, socioeconomic and clinics variables and the patients underwent laboratory tests to define their lipid and glucose profiles and measurement of plasma Hy levels. Results: The study evaluated a total of 165 children and adolescents with mean age of 12.5 (±2.5) years; the majority were female (57.0%). Regarding the lipid profile, there was more individuals with low HDL cholesterol (88.5%). Plasma Hy levels were high in 24.2% of the sample. The mean Hy levels ranged from 4.3 to 18.9 μmol/L, being higher in males, obese adolescents and also in patients with high insulin levels and resistance. Conclusions: The results shown in this study emphasize the importance of detecting and controlling the plasma Hy levels as an independent cardiovascular risk factor, and the need for further studies to evaluate the clinical and biological factors related to alterations in its metabolism.

Abstract: prenatal adolescent care is characterized by technical actions seeking to provide assistance from the perspective of comprehensive care. the community health agent program/family health program (pacs/psf) is a strategy for implementing the changes envisaged, which motivated this scientific investigation. the scope of the research was to assess prenatal care to pregnant adolescents by health professionals of pacs/psf and analyze it from the standpoint of comprehensive care. it is a qualitative study, with comprehensive care as its theoretical focus. it was conducted in pacs/psf units in a city in the state of bahia, and the subjects of study were the practitioners who treat pregnant adolescents. the empirical material was produced by means of semi-structured interviews and non-participative observation in consultations and homecare visits and was analyzed using the speech analysis technique. this revealed that prenatal care for adolescents is provided using the biomedical model, where compliance with institutional protocols and routines takes precedence over considering the specific aspects of the adolescent. thus it is far removed from comprehensive care, in that the practices are guided by ideological adherence to a model that fails to grant pregnant adolescents the opportunity to be treated as individuals.

Abstract: relatively poorer audibility threshold for high frequency was found in children with medical history of multiples episodes of secretory otitis media. aim: to characterize the audibility threshold for high frequencies in normal-hearing children with medical history of multiples episodes of bilateral secretory otitis media. materials and methods: a sample of 31 children, from both genders, was divided in two groups: 14 subjects who had not more than 3 episodes of bilateral secretory otitis media (group 1) and 17 subjects that experienced at least 4 episodes of this condition (group 2). pure-tone air conduction audiometry was tested at frequencies 9,000 to 18,000 hz. study design: transversal prospective. results: there was no difference between audibility thresholds comparing right and left ears of subjects of both group 1 and group 2 in all tested frequencies. however, there was difference between audibility thresholds between subjects of group 2 compared to group 1 in all tested frequencies. conclusion: 1- there was an increase in audibility thresholds with the increase in frequency . 2- high frequency audiometry separates subjects with history of at least four episodes of secretory otitis media, suggesting that these episodes are sufficient to promote statistically significant difference in high frequency thresholds.
