Biotecnologia no contexto da Conven o de Diversidade Biológica: análise da implementa o do Art. 19 deste Acordo
Mnica Cibele Amancio,Ruy de Araujo Caldas
Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente , 2010,
Abstract: Modern biotechnology is one of the most important technological tools nowadays, and its development involves discussions related to food and environmental safety of their products. These discussions occur within various international organizations, originating different Agreements about the theme. One of the most important is the Convention on Biological Diversity – CBD – and its associated agreement, the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. This work sought to identify how biotechnology is handled in the CBD, analyzing the implementation of Article 19 and its consequences in terms of discussions about theregulatory framework related to biosafety. It presents the concept of biotechnology and its implications, the approach to the subject under the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Cartagena Protocol,and the Brazilian law on biosafety. This work concluded that, although the purpose of Article 19 of the CBD was much broader, namely, regulating the handling of biotechnology and distribution of benefitsamong member countries of this Agreement, such claims were not obtained, restricting the discussion to the scope of issues related to GMO biosafety. The challenge now is to expand this discussion so thatthe benefits of this new technology can actually be achieved and distributed both between developed countries and developing countries, always in a sustainable manner.

Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232009000800013
Abstract: this article is intended to contribute for the debate instituted about the composition of "family health" teams. it must be understood as a reflection about the possibility of integrating the physiotherapist to those teams, aiming to present some aspects of the profession that might potentially improve the outcomes of primary health care. on this study, we analyze the legal documents that approve the rules for qualifying professional physiotherapists. in the 1970s and 1980s, following brazilian sanitary reform, those documents made official the process that led physiotherapy, which was historically recognized for its clinic acting, into a shift on its work object. this change approximated physiotherapists to preventive and health promotion practices, typical of the first level of care. we conclude that such changes opened an important space for integration still little explored. we propose to strengthen these new fields, by focusing the reflection on integration forms and on the necessity to impose to managers to plan their actions in association with the community, taking into account the local health situation and assuring intervention on problems according to priority population groups.

Lima,Mnica A. G. de; Neves,Robson; Sá,Sylvia; Pimenta,Cibele;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232005000100023
Abstract: this study presents the attitude of workers in different activities (bank workers, checkout workers and industrial workers) with chronic pain related to the repetition strain injures (rsi) diagnosed in an occupational outpatient clinic - centro de estudos da saúde do trabalhador (cesat), in the state of bahia, brazil. sixty five workers from a convenience sample were interviewed, using the short version of the survey of pain attitude, adapted to the portuguese language. this questionnaire contains seven domains: control, emotion, disability, physical impairment, medication, solicitude, medical cure. student's test and mann-whitney test were used for comparing two and more than two means, respectively. physical impairment was more important among male industrial workers with less limitation to work. the emotion and control domains were more favorable among people who practice a religion. these results suggest the utilization of this approach to better understand the complexity of the chronic pain among workers, and the necessity of expanding the concepts of assistance and rehabilitation in the field of occupational health, through an integral care model.

Abstract: objective: to evaluate the impact of the use of topical mupirocin on the insertion of central venous catheter for hemodialysis. methods: this was a systematic review with meta-analysis. results: after a careful and extensive search, we included three clinical trials that compared the use of mupirocin versus other intervention in central venous catheter for hemodialysis. conclusion: the study found that the use of topical mupirocin is effective in reducing episodes of infection among hemodialysis patients, increasing duration time for catheter, and significantly reducing s aureus infections, which are the most prevalent in this population.
Estabilidade da microestrutura e do teor de carotenóides de pós obtidos da polpa de pequi (Caryocar brasiliense Camb.) liofilizada
Alves, Cibele Cristina de Oliveira;Resende, Jaime Vilela de;Cruvinel, Rafael Souza Ribeiro;Prado, Mnica Elisabeth Torres;
Ciência e Tecnologia de Alimentos , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-20612008000400011
Abstract: in this study, food powders obtained from the freeze-dried pequi (caryocar brasiliense camb.) pulps (internal mesocarp) were developed by adding alcohols (ethanol and isopropyl alcohol) in concentrations of 0, 5, and 10% and sugars (sucrose and fructose) in concentrations of 0, 5, and 10%. microstructure analyses by photonic microscopy of the freeze-dried powders were used to evaluate the degree of crystallization. color analyses using a minolta colorimeter and the total carotenoid values using a spectrophotometer were also done. the results show that treatments with a sucrose and ethanol combination presented the formation of crystalline structures and the best preservation of the carotenoid contents. the higher the concentration of the alcohol added in the pre-treatments, the better preserved the caretenoids in the freeze- dried powders became. treatments with fructose and isopropyl alcohol produced freeze- dried powders that were typically amorphous presenting caking phenomena. pre-treatments with sucrose and ethanol are the solution to these problems since they are able to produce freeze-dried powders of the pequi pulp with physical chemical and microstructural stability.

Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2011.44025
Abstract: How is software measurement addressed in undergraduate and graduate programs in universities? Do organizations consider that the graduating students they hire have an adequate knowledge of software measurement? To answer these and related questions, a survey was administered to participants who attended the IWSM-MENSURA 2010 conference in Stuttgart, Germany. Forty-seven of the 69 conference participants (including software development practitioners, software measurement consultants, university professors, and graduate students) took part in the survey. The results indicate that software measurement topics are: 1) covered mostly at the graduate level and not at the undergraduate level, and 2) not mandatory. Graduate students and professors consider that, of the measurement topics covered in university curricula, specific topics, such as measures for the requirements phase, and measurement techniques and tools, receive more attention in the academic context. A common observation of the practitioners who participated in the survey was that students hired as new employees bring limited software measurement-related knowledge to their organizations. Discussion of the findings and directions for future research are presented.
