Alcayaga,Marcelo;
Teología y vida , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0049-34492011000100018
Abstract: this article investigates how the combination of faith and reason formed part of the training required for the presbyters in charge of the communities in the western church of the 5th century. the present study is organized in three parts: the first shows how, in the 5th century, intellectual training was already traditionally required for candidates for the ordained ministry; the second shows what humanistic studies they could carry out in their time, and the third deals with the eminently priestly formation that prepared them for ministry in the communities entrusted to them.

Abstract: the technology transfer process requires training future users in specific knowledge and skills, as well as performing administrative adjustments for an effective incorporation of innovation into the structure of the system and into the professional care. pontificia universidad católica de chile's school of nursing developed a model of technological support for health self-care, which includes the use of telephone counseling to help people who suffer from chronic diseases manage their condition and look after themselves by teaching them techniques which alleviate their disease. here, we present an experience that was carried out to transfer this technology to professionals related to the cardiovascular health program in chilean public primary healthcare centers located in a low-income district of chile's capital city, santiago, so that the technology could be applied to patients with type 2 diabetes who had joined such program. this process was conducted in two stages: 1. making of a theoretical-practical workshop to support health decision-making and motivational strategies for health behavior change (workshops and demonstrations); and 2. field demonstration, and monitoring with supervision and meetings at local level. the professionals who participated in the technology transfer program succeeded in developing the skills expected in the telephone counseling tool to support self-management of people suffering from dm2. finally, to enable telephone counseling in clinical practice, healthcare centers restructured their system of service provisions, incorporating such counseling into their professional duties.
Modelling the hydrologic response of a mesoscale Andean watershed to changes in land use patterns for environmental planning

Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) & Discussions (HESSD) , 2010,
Abstract: A multidisciplinary approach is followed for analysis of the effect of changes in land use patterns on the hydrologic response of the Vergara watershed (4340 km2) located in central Chile. Probable future land use scenarios were generated using heuristic rules and logistic regression models, in order to identify and represent the main pressure on the watershed, namely forestation of extensive areas used for agriculture with rapid growing exotic species. The hydrologic response of the watershed was computed with a physically based distributed precipitation-runoff model, which was calibrated and validated for the current period. Results show that mean annual discharge increase with agricultural land use and diminish with introduced forest coverage. Thus, forestation of areas with introduced species like Pinus radiata and Eucalyptus globulus might be regulated in order to protect the water resources of the watershed.
Facts and Perceptions Regarding Software Measurement in Education and in Practice: Preliminary Results  [PDF]
Mónica Villavicencio, Alain Abran
Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2011.44025
Abstract: How is software measurement addressed in undergraduate and graduate programs in universities? Do organizations consider that the graduating students they hire have an adequate knowledge of software measurement? To answer these and related questions, a survey was administered to participants who attended the IWSM-MENSURA 2010 conference in Stuttgart, Germany. Forty-seven of the 69 conference participants (including software development practitioners, software measurement consultants, university professors, and graduate students) took part in the survey. The results indicate that software measurement topics are: 1) covered mostly at the graduate level and not at the undergraduate level, and 2) not mandatory. Graduate students and professors consider that, of the measurement topics covered in university curricula, specific topics, such as measures for the requirements phase, and measurement techniques and tools, receive more attention in the academic context. A common observation of the practitioners who participated in the survey was that students hired as new employees bring limited software measurement-related knowledge to their organizations. Discussion of the findings and directions for future research are presented.
Relevance of Epistemological Pluralism for Resource Management Policies  [PDF]
Mónica Gómez Salazar
Open Journal of Philosophy (OJPP) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojpp.2015.56039
Abstract: The common believe of a single successful form of knowing the reality is misleading. A brief analysis of many human activities reveals a pluralistic perspective of several coexisting conceptual schemes that underlie the form in which women and men know and constitute the world in which we live. Here, I will discuss the necessity of taking seriously this pluralistic perspective when developing conceptual frameworks of human activities. As an example of great interest and importance, I will consider the case of resource management that has to contemplate the conservation and the response of ecosystems to human activities that may lead to irreversible damage. Ecosystems’ activity occurs over a wide range of space and time scales and, hence, policies and proposals of solutions to ecological problems should avoid narrow and monochromatic approaches. Specifically, the Pemon perspective of fire is a good example to show that for more robust and flexible resource management we need the knowledge and experience of different cultural and disciplinary groups.
Análisis de costos en evaluaciones económicas en salud: Aspectos introductorios
LENZ-ALCAYAGA,RONY;
Revista médica de Chile , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0034-98872010001000006
Abstract: cost analysis is a central part of economic appraisal in healthcare and a constant worrying for planners and assessment teams, despite its complexity and the difficulty of making estimates. most important economic terms related to cost analysis are re-viewed. economics common idea of cost, centered in resource allocation, is the concept of opportunity cost or the sacrifice that is made when an alternative is chosen, expressed in terms of the one that was rejected. in every economic assessment relevant cost must be identifed as well as the perspective of costing. complexity of costing analysis can be reduced by an appropriate definition of the objectives of cost, a detailed description of the process associated to the health intervention, and considering identification, quantification and valuation of the resources consumed by an intervention.
