BAFF: Una citoquina reguladora de linfocitos B implicada en autoinmunidad y cáncer linfoide BAFF: A regulatory cytokine of B lymphocytes involved in autoimmunity and lymphoid cancer

Abstract: BAFF (B cell activating factor belonging to the TNF family) is a cytokine implicated in the survival and maturation of peripheral B lymphocytes and T and B cell activation. BAFF binds to three different receptors: TACI, BCMA and BAFF-R, whose expression is restricted to B and T lymphocytes. BAFF and BAFF-R-deficient mice show a dramatic loss of peripheral B lymphocytes and a severely reduced immune response. In contrast, an enhanced BAFF expression leads to B cell hyperplasia and autoimmunity in mice. In vivo, administration of soluble decoy receptors for BAFF effectively decreases disease progression in various autoimmune mouse models. These evidences render BAFF as a potentially new therapeutic target. Elevated BAFF levels have been detected in the serum of patients with autoimmune diseases, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, rheumatoid arthitis, Sj gren's syndrome, lymphoid cancers and HIV infection. In addition to BAFF receptors, malignant B cells abnormally express BAFF, which attenuates apoptosis through both autocrine and paracrine pathways. The data suggest that an increase in the expression of BAFF induces an enhanced B and T cell activation and the survival of pathologically active B cells. In this article, we review and discuss the participation of BAFF and its receptors in the immune response and its involvement in immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, infections and lymphoid cancers as well as the currently investigated therapies using BAFF antagonists in the treatment of these diseases

Abstract: in this paper, using ccd observations of the galaxy ngc 5055 in the emission lines of hα and hβ (rozas 2007), together with ccd observations in the narrowband filters of [oii], [oiii], [sii], and s[iii] lines we have calculated the equivalent widths, excitations, ionization hardness, ionization parameters and metallicities for the regions catalogued in rozas (2007).
A dynamical model for the spiral galaxy NGC 3359

Abstract: in this work we have determined a dynamical model for ngc 3359. this is a strongly barred spiral galaxy with a complex structure, within which we can see an annular zone of intense star formation. in this work we present self consistent numerical simulations of molecular gas in ngc 3359; and using the potential derived from an i band image, we attempt to find the parameters responsible for the kinematics and morphology of the observed gas. the best results are obtained for a two pattern speed model: the central region (up to 15") corresponding to the nuclear bar which rotates with a ωs=100 km s-1 kpc-1; and the main bar + outer spiral, decoupled from the nuclear region, which rotates with a angular velocity, ωp = 27 km s-1 kpc-1. the model successfully reproduces the complex structure in hα of the galaxy in the internal 20" zone, which cannot really be explained with a unique mode pattern.

Abstract: En este trabajo, con simulaciones numéricas del medio interestelar, determinamos el patrón de velocidad y construimos un modelo dinámico para NGC 3359. ésta es una galaxia espiral fuertemente barrada y estructuralmente compleja, incluyendo una zona anular con fuerte formación estelar. Presentamos simulaciones numéricas auto-consistentes del gas molecular de NGC 3359, y usando el potencial derivado de una imagen en la banda I, encontramos los parámetros responsables de la cinemática y de la morfología del gas observado. Los mejores resultados se han obtenido con un modelo con dos patrones de velocidad diferentes: la región central (hasta 15′′) que corresponde a la barra nuclear rota con una Ωs = 100 km s 1 kpc 1; y la barra principal, junto con la espiral externa, desacopladas de la región nuclear, que rota con una velocidad angular, Ωp = 27 km s 1 kpc 1. Este modelo reproduce bien la compleja estructura en Hα de la galaxia en la zona interna, la cual no puede ser explicada con un único patrón de velocidad.

Abstract: En este artículo usamos las observaciones presentadas en Rozas (2007) de la galaxia NGC 5055 en las líneas Hα y Hβ, junto con observaciones CCD con filtros estrechos en las líneas [OII], [OIII], [SII] y S[III] para calcular las anchuras equivalentes, excitación, grados de ionización, parámetros de ionización y metalicidades de las regiones catalogadas en Rozas (2007).

Abstract: the measures of referential distance proposed in givón (1983) are still to this date the only independent method to quantify textually the degree of accessibility of the discourse entities. taking into account the ideas presented in givón (1992), in the paper a new attempt to compute the referential distance of definite nps is uphold. this new proposal will allow to overcome the difficulties raised by the bid of givón (1983), which was applied to spanish by bentivoglio (1983). the analysis, based on a corpus of spanish newspaper texts, leads us to the necessity of distinguishing between anaphoric nps and non-anaphoric nps when applying the computation, and shows the suitability of a new model of syntactic subcategorization of referential devices.

Abstract: the practice of blood transfusion is a science which has been showing fast growth, continuous changes and a great perspective of future development. the day-to-day routines of hemotherapy services require the improvement of techniques, as the fractionation of collected blood is necessary and each donated unit may benefit several patients and allow large amounts of a certain component to be transfused. the purpose of the present work is to revise the collection, production and storage procedures and the clinical indication of the main blood components such as concentrated red blood cells, concentrated washed red blood cells, erythrocytes with low numbers of leucocytes, concentrated platelets, apheresis concentrated platelets, concentrated granulocytes, frozen fresh plasma and regular plasma and cryoprecipited. future perspectives suggest there will be changes in transfusion therapy with its main purpose stressing an improvement of security, with an increase of manufactured products, development of non-cellular products, apheresis technology, microbial attenuation and plasma recombining proteins, which may replace plasma products within a few decades.

Abstract: we present the results of the detailed photometric and spectroscopic study of shakhbazian compact galaxy groups shcg 104, shcg 120, shcg 223 and shcg 245. the redshifts of member galaxies, the results of photometry in r band, the surface-brightness profiles, the curves of isophotal twisting and fourier parameter a4 are presented. we determined the mass, the luminosity, the mass-to-luminosity ratio, the radial velocity dispersion and the crossing time of groups. also the morphological types of member galaxies are determined. it is shown that some galaxies in groups are in the process of interaction.
