Gravity as entropic force and its effects on the singularities of the Friedmann equations

Abstract: Interpretation of gravity as entropic force makes some corrections in Friedmann equations. According to calculations of Easson, Frampton and Smooth, the entropic force addss correction terms to Friedmann equations. It’s shown that these corrections change the second type of singularity to the third one in Friedmann equations. Considering Friedmann equations, even without entropic force at least one of the energy conditions is violated in the third kind of singularity. Adding the correction terms, the violated energy condition will change.
The Effect of Different Methods of Processing on Nutritive Value and Degradation of Rice Straw by Rumen Mixed Bacteria

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate rumen bacteria activity on degradation of untreated Rice Straw (RS) and treated with low temperature steam, sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and exogenous enzyme using disappearance of Dry Matter (DM) and Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) in rumen bacteria culture for 96 h incubation. Treatments were including; untreated RS, RS treated with low temperature steam (120°C for 120 min), RS treated with 80 g kg-1 DM NaOH, RS treated with 20 g kg-1 DM exogenous enzyme and RS treated with enzyme+NaOH. The result showed disappearance of dry matter after 96 h incubation by rumen bacteria was 60.3, 75.2, 85.3, 81.3 and 96.2 g/100 g for untreated rice straw and treated with steam, NaOH, enzyme and enzyme+NaOH, respectively. Sodium hydroxide, enzyme and steam caused to increase disappearance NDF of rice straw in media culture in compared with the other samples, 96 h after culturing and the highest increase of NDF disappearance was for rice straw treated with enzyme+NaOH (345.3 mg g-1) (p<0.05). Therefore, it may be resulted that low temperature steam, exogenous enzyme and NaOH influence the growth and activity of rumen bacteria on rice straw in compared to untreated RS.
The Correlation Between Mineral Concentration of Seminal Plasma and Spermatozoa Motility in Rooster

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between cooper, zinc, calcium, sodium and potassium concentration of seminal plasma and spermatozoa progressive motility percent in rooster. Seventeen Indigenous broiler breeder Roosters were used. According to spermatozoa motility, roosters were classified to 3 treatment groups with low, medium and high progressive motility percent. Seminal plasma from all groups was obtained with centrifuge of semen samples. Cooper, Zinc, Sodium, potassium and calcium concentrations in seminal plasma samples were determined on the atomic absorption spectrophotometer. There was positive correlation between cooper and zinc concentrations of seminal plasma and progressive motility percent of spermatozoa. There was no significant correlation between sodium concentrations of seminal plasma and progressive motility percent of spermatozoa. There was negative correlation between low/medium progressive motility rate groups and high motility group. While this correlation for calcium concentration was positive.
Solvent effect on 14N NMR shielding of glycine, serine, leucine, and threonine: comparison between chemical shifts and energy versus dielectric constant

Abstract: The polarizable continuum model (PCM) is employed to describe the system in the condensed phase. The performance of DFT and PCM in describing high order nonlinear mixed electric and magnetic effects in condensed phase are described. In this paper we consider the effect of 10 solvents with a wide range of dielectric constants on 4 amino acids. NMR shielding values (ppm), isotropic and anisotropic effects, energy interaction between solute and solvent, and the effect of hydrogen bond on shielding are described. Direct and indirect solvent effects on shielding are also calculated. The observed solvent-induced shielding variation is more strongly related to the intensity of the solvent reaction field rather than on the change of molecular geometry induced by the solvent. Genetic Parameter Estimates for Lamb Weight at Post-Weaning in Zandi Sheep, Using Single-Trait Animal Models

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to estimate variance components and genetic parameters for post-weaning growth traits of 2634 Zandi lambs from 202 sires and 1093 dams for 6 Month Weight (6MW) of 1893 lambs from 188 sires and 816 dams for 9 Month Weight (9MW) and of 1115 lambs from 156 sires and 514 dams for Yearling Weight (YW). Data and pedigree information used in this study were collected from Khojir Research Station (Tehran-Iran) during 1993-2008. Genetic parameters were carried out by Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML) method, under six different single-trait animal models. Log likelihood ratio test indicated the most appropriate model for 6MW should included direct additive genetic effects as well as maternal permanent environmental effects whilst the most appropriate model for 9MW and YW had only the direct additive genetic effects. The effects of lamb s sex, dam s age and birth year were highly significant on all three traits (p<0.01) but birth type was only significant effect on 6 MW (p<0.05) and was no significant effect on 9MW and YW (p>0.05). Average weights were 27.55±0.09, 32.67±0.11 and 34.92±0.16 kg for 6MW, 9MW and YW, respectively. Estimates of direct heritability (h2) were 0.132, 0.134 and 0.133 for 6MW, 9MW and YW, respectively. The estimate of maternal permanent environmental variance as a proportion of phenotypic variance (c2) was 0.056 for 6MW.
Effects of Dried Whey (Prebiotics) and Probiotics in Laying Hen s Performance and Intestinal Flora

Abstract: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of adding levels of dried whey powder and probiotic to practical-type diets on the performance and Intestinal micro organism of laying hen s. Dried whey was used in isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets at levels of 0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5% with two Level of probiotic (0 and 1000 g-1 Bioplus 2B ton-1 feed providing 0 and 3.2x106 cfu g-1 Feed concentration). About 72 white leghorn Hy-Line, w-36 strain used in experiment. Adding dried whey powder and probiotic to the diets caused highly significant increase (p<0.05) in egg production and lactobacillus in ileum but significant decrease (p<0.05) coliform in ileum. Using dried whey and probiobic improve egg weight, egg mass, shell thickness, shell hardness and Haugh unit but not significant (p>0.05). Level of 5% dried whey had significant decrease feed conversion (p<0.05). Other traits did not show significant different by using dried whey and probiotic.
Effects of dietary turmeric supplementation on plasma lipoproteins, meat quality and fatty acid composition in broilers

Abstract: An experiment with 200 day-old male broiler chickens was conducted to investigate the effect of the dietary supplementation of turmeric rhizome powder (TRP) on plasma lipoprotein concentrations, and the meat quality and fatty acid composition of the thigh muscle of the broilers. The four treatments were 0% (F.TRP), 0.25% (L.TRP), 0.50% (M.TRP) and 0.75% (H.TRP) TRP in the diets. The pH and the fat, protein, dry matter and ash concentrations of thigh meat did not show significant differences between treatments. There were no significant differences between treatments in the concentrations of plasma triglyceride, total cholesterol and very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-c) at three weeks, and for plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c) at three and six weeks of age. At week 6, the M.TRP- and H.TRP-fed birds showed lower plasma triglyceride and VLDL-c concentrations than the birds in the other treatments. At weeks 3 and 6 the concentration of plasma high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c) of the M.TRP- and H.TRP-fed birds was significantly higher than that of the F.TRP-fed birds. At week 6, the H.TRP-fed birds had significantly lower concentrations of saturated fatty acids (SFA) in the thigh and total cholesterol in the plasma than the F.TRP-fed birds and the other birds. Moreover, a significantly higher thigh vaccenic acid concentration was indicated for the H.TRP-fed birds compared with the L.TRP- and F.TRP-fed birds. In orthogonal comparisons, TRP consumption reduced the concentration of plasma triglycerides and dry matter of thigh meat, as well as triglyceride, palmitic acid and total SFA concentrations, but increased the thigh meat protein and plasma HDL-c concentrations significantly, compared with the control. In conclusion, supplementation of TRP in broiler chickens diets can decrease the concentrations of SFAs and triglycerides in thigh meat and improve the meat quality as a result.
The Correlation between endothelin-1 antibody plasma concentrations in patients with scleroderma and different manifestations of the disease

Endothelin-1 (ET-1) antibody plays a role in skin fibrosis. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and correlation of different manifestations of SSc with ET-1 plasma levels."n"nMethods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 95 patients (91 women and four men) with scleroderma in 2006. The patients had been referred to the Rheumatology Clinic of Shariati Hospital in Tehran, Iran. The demographic data and signs and symptoms were entered in a questionnaire and endothelin-1 concentrations were measured. "n"nResults: The mean age of the patients was 38±12.29 years. Diffuse cutaneous SSc (dcSSc) was diagnosed in 52 and limited cutaneous SSc (lcSSc) in 43 patients. Raynaud's phenomenon (91%) was the most common manifestation in the patients. The relationship between the resorption of terminal phalanges due to fibrosis with the plasma concentration of Endothelin-1 was statistically significant (p=0.001). Pitting ulcers had significant relationships with endothelin-1 concentrations too (p<0.05). No other significant relationships were found between the other manifestation of the disease and Endothelin-1 concentration. "n"nConclusion: In this study, Reynaud's phenomenon was the most frequent sign in patients with scleroderma. Thus, it could serve as a tool for the diagnosis of scleroderma. As there were no significant relationships between the other manifestations of scleroderma with endothelin-1, a cohort study with a larger sample size is suggested.
Evaluation of the Effects of Curcumin on Palm Inflammation and Level of Acute Phase Proteins in Arthritic Rats

Abstract: Background and ObjectivesRheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease which is characterized by joint swelling, and synovial inflammation. C reactive protein (CRP) and ceruloplasmin (CP) are identified as important biomarkers of RA and various inflammatory diseases. Curcumin, a widely used yellow color spice is the most active component of Curcuma longa L (Turmeric). Curcumin contains potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The goal of this study is evaluation of the anti-inflammatory effect of curcumin on arthritic palm of rats and levels of the CRP and CP in the blood samples of arthritis induced male albino Wistar rats.Methods Arthritis was induced by subcutaneous injection of Freund’s Complete Adjuvant (FCA) into the palm of right rear foot of 8 different male albino Wistar rats. The rats were randomly divided into five groups after the injection. These groups were as follow: Group Ι, control normal rats Group II, carrier arthritic rats Group III, arthritic rats which were given 30mg/ kg of curcumin orally seven days prior to FCA injectionGroup IV, arthritic rats treated with 30mg/kg of curcumin Group V, arthritic rats treated with 3 mg/kg of indomethacin.All the groups except group III received oral treatment with curcumin seven days after FCA injection and the treatment was continued fourteen days thereafter. The rear foot thicknesses of all the rats were measured on days 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 after FCA injection. The rats were destroyed after 20th day and their blood samples were collected.ResultsThe results of this study indicate that curcumin significantly decreases swelling of the rats rear foot (p<0.05), and levels of the CRP and CP as compared to carrier arthritic rats (p<0.05). One-way variance analysis by ANOVA program and post test analysis by Tukey were used for analysis of the collected data. ConclusionEvaluation of the results of this experiment supports the anti-inflammatory, and possibly anti-arthritic properties of curcumin in the treatment of RA.Keywords: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA); Freund’s Complete Adjuvant; Ceruloplasmin; C- Reactive Protein
