Abstract: the goal of this study was to propose modeling strategies applied to the analysis of citrus leprosis incidence, through the use of a spatial temporal autologistic model. we evaluated the adequacy of autologistic model to consider data collected at different times; to detect spatial-temporal patterns through different neighboring structures; to consider the effect of covariates from previous times; and assessing the effect of the presence of the disease vector in the probability of new infections occurrence. the spatial temporal autologistic model adopted has extended the usual logistic model, in which the neighboring structures is described by means of covariates built from the status of plants nearby, at the same or at previous times. data regarding the presence of the leprosis on plants were collected at field points referenced in space, over a period of approximately two years. models detect the presence of spatial patterns on new infections for the studied neighboring structures, at the same or previous time. additionally, probability estimates of a plant become infected can be obtained from the fitted models, given the occurrence of the disease and vector.

Revista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-06832011000400027
Abstract: this study proposes a method of direct and simultaneous determination of the amount of ca2+ and mg2+ present in soil extracts using a calcium ion-selective electrode and by complexometric titration (ise-ct). the results were compared to those obtained by conventional analytical techniques of complexometric titration (ct) and flame atomic absorption spectrometry (faas). there were no significant differences in the determination of ca2+ and mg2+ in comparison with ct and faas, at a 95 % confidence level. additionally, results of this method were more precise and accurate than of the interlaboratorial control (ic).
Autologistic model with an application to the citrus "sudden death" disease

Scientia Agricola , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162008000500014
Abstract: the citrus sudden death (csd) disease affects dramatically citrus trees causing a progressive plant decline and death. the disease has been identified in the late 90's in the main citrus production area of brazil and since then there are efforts to understand the etiology as well as the mechanisms its spreading. one relevant aspect of such studies is to investigate spatial patterns of the occurrence within a field. methods for determining whether the spatial pattern is aggregated or not has been frequently used. however it is possible to further explore and describe the data by means of adopting an explicit model to discriminate and quantify effects by attaching parameters to covariates which represent aspects of interest to be investigated. one alternative involves autologistic models, which extend a usual logistic model in order to accommodate spatial effects. in order to implement such model it is necessary to take into account the reuse of data to built spatial covariates, which requires extensions in methodology and algorithms to assess the variance of the estimates. this work presents an application of the autologistic model to data collected at 11 time points from citrus fields affected by csd. it is shown how the autologistic model is suitable to investigate diseases of this type, as well as a description of the model and the computational aspects necessary for model fitting.

Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira , 2011, DOI: 10.4336/2012.pfb.66.83
Abstract: The use of silicate is a practice that has been frequently adopted in annual crops, although few studies have been conducted in order to verify its efficiency in forest tree species. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of calcium and potassium silicates in the growth of seedlings of Eucalyptus grandis. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in Alambari county, State of S o Paulo. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, with eight treatments, three replications and 25 plants per plot, maintained at the field capacity moisture level. Seedlings were planted in plastic tubes using local substrate, basic fertilization and silicates. Diameter, height and fresh and dry biomass of the seedlings were determined 150 days after silicates treatments were applied. The use of silicates either in the substrate or through foliar application, in the production of eucalypt seedlings has proven to be inadequate when the substrate presents a balanced basic composition in terms of nutrients and pH. doi: 10.4336/2011.pfb.31.66.83 O uso de silicato é uma prática que vem sendo adotada com frequência em culturas anuais, muito embora poucos trabalhos tenham sido realizados com intuito de verificar sua eficiência em espécies florestais arbóreas.

As varia es do pH, acidez titulável e sólidos solúveis durante o armazenamento foram, em geral, pequenas. doi: 10.4336/2010.pfb.30.63.261 Physic-chemical parameters were used to evaluate the quality of fresh palm hearts of palm in the breeding program for quality of material produced. We monitored the pH, acidity (TA) and soluble solids (SS) of palm fresh during storage under refrigeration of the two most important populations of peach palm cultivated in Brazil. Were analyzed for microbiological and significant differences between the populations of Benjamin Constant (Brazil) and Yurimaguas (Peru) to ATT and SS, but not for pH, which shows that the first two are suitable to differentiate populations of peach palm. Although levels were slightly acid pH (5.6 to 6.2), Microbiological analysis showed that the palm remained fresh during storage with microbiological standards for minimally processed vegetables. Variations in pH, acidity and soluble solids during storage were generally small. doi: 10.4336/2010.pfb.30.63.261

Abstract: Plantation forests in Brazil cover 7 million hectares, which represents 1% of the country (68% of Eucalyptus and 25% of Pinus plantations). The aim of this study was to evaluate a Eucalyptus urograndis plantation. High levels of Ca and Mg in the soil suggest that limestone had leached into the soil profile. The soil resistance down to 60 cm depth in the row of planting was lower than the inter-row space, indicating that deep tillage had been effective. Soil resistance, down to 20 cm depth at an inter-row distance of 1 m from the planting row, was higher, likely by the increase in soil compaction during the site preparation. The canopy biomass differed amongst the DBH classes, justifying the use of an allometric equation based on a basal area for assessing the canopy biomass. The observed variation in DBH did not correlate with variation in wood density. The wood density of 0.37 g cm-3 was lower than those reported for 7-year-old plantation. The in situ removal of the bark increased nutrient availability by 8-11%. Harvesting of tree bole in 3-year old plantation didn’t result in a large nutrient export, indicating that proper plantation management can contribute to plantation forest sustainability. doi: 10.4336/2011.pfb.31.68.331 No Brasil os plantios florestais ocupam 7 milh es de hectares que correspondem a 1% do território (68% com planta es de Eucalyptus e 25% com Pinus) O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar plantios de Eucalyptus urograndis.
An Approach for Personalized Social Matching Systems by Using Ant Colony  [PDF]
Luziane Ferreira de Mendon?a
Social Networking (SN) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/sn.2014.32013
Abstract:

Personalized social matching systems can be seen as recommender systems that recommend people to others in the social networks, with desirable skills/characteristics. In this work, an algorithm based on Ant Colony is proposed to solve the optimization problem of clustering/matching people in a social network specifically designed for this purpose; during this process, their personal characteristics and preferences (and the degree of importance thereof) are taken into account. The numerical results indicate that the proposed algorithm can successfully perform clustering with a variable number of individuals.
