RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN STRATIGRAPHY, DEFORMATION AND THERMAL HISTORY IN SEDIMENTARY BASINS. IMPACT OF GEODYNAMIC CONCEPTS IN PETROLEUM EXPLORATION
Sarmiento,Luis-Fernando;
CT&F - Ciencia, Tecnología y Futuro , 2002,
Abstract: the natural processes that generate petroleum accumulations in a sedimentary basin require several ingredients: (1) the petroleum system elements: source, reservoir, seal and overburden rocks, which are the result of sedimentation processes in a subsiding basin; (2) petroleum traps, which in many cases are the result of deformation and (3) heat to convert suitable organic matter into petroleum. although these different phenomena are considered independent at the scale of an oil field, at the lithosphere scale (1) thermal phenomena, (2) vertical movements of the earth surface responsible for sedimentation and erosion; and (3) tectonic deformation are not independent phenomena, they are intimately related by physical quantitative laws. these mutual inter-relationships are useful in petroleum exploration to predict one factor having knowledge of the others. applications of these concepts can contribute to understand the tectonic history of complex areas, such as the colombian sedimentary basins, and reduce exploration risk.

The Topological Conditions: The Properties of the Pair of Conjugate Tress  [PDF]
Luis Hernandez-Martinez, Arturo Sarmiento-Reyes, Miguel A. Gutierrez de Anda
Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (JSEA) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/jsea.2010.36059
Abstract: This paper presents some important properties emanating from the pair of conjugate trees. The properties are obtained by resorting to the fundamental loops and cutsets in the circuit topology. The existence of such a pair is one of the conditions for a nonlinear resistive circuit to have one and only one DC solution.
Stability of the Supply Chain Using System Dynamics Simulation and the Accumulated Deviations from Equilibrium

Modelling and Simulation in Engineering , 2011, DOI: 10.1155/2011/603632
Abstract: We propose and demonstrate a new methodology to stabilize systems with complex dynamics like the supply chain. This method is based on the accumulated deviations from equilibrium (ADE). It is most beneficial for controlling system dynamic models characterized by multiple types of delays, many interacting variables, and feedback processes. We employ the classical version of particle swarm optimization as the optimization approach due to its performance in multidimensional space, stochastic properties, and global reach. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method based on ADE using a manufacturing-supply-chain case study. 1. Introduction The current world economic climate has led to highly volatile markets and fluctuating demands for manufactured goods. Consequently, demand forecasting and inventory control have become major concerns for supply chain managers. In recent papers [1–3], the authors demonstrated that the classical supply-chain approach to forecasting future inventory demand [4] is not enough to avoid huge swings in finished goods and in-process inventories. The authors implied that a new approach to modeling supply chain behavior based on a deep understanding of the structure of the problem, the causalities among the system variables, and the different types of time delays is needed. This echoes results from [5] who said “behavioral functions that underlie market actions can be more successfully interpreted through nonlinear decision functions” and “that theory should be drawn from actual causality relationships”. Modeling such nonlinear decisions and causal relationships is the focus of systems dynamics (SD). We believe that system dynamics combined with elements from nonlinear control theory, calculus, and optimization can be used to understand, monitor, and stabilize supply-chain behavior. System dynamics models of supply chains provide a mathematical interpretation of the intricate relationships between numerous variables. Sets of those variables can form feedback loops based on the causality structure of the problem. These intermingled feedback loops can act simultaneously, but at different times, they may have diverse effects. Therefore, transitions from a regime to another are widespread. Most system dynamics models used for supply chains are complex and nonlinear [6]. Nonlinearities due to the multiplying effect of multiple causal variables upon another variable are “quite common in SD and difficult to tackle” [7]. The number of variables and feedback loops, the discontinuities, and time delays increases the level of complexity
Evaluación del Modelo CNCPS-S Para Predecir el Crecimiento del Borrego Pelibuey
Duarte Vera,Fernando; Sandoval Castro,Carlos; Sarmiento Franco,Luis;
Revista Científica , 2008,
Abstract: the cornell net carbohydrate and protein system for sheep (cncps-s) was evaluated on its prediction capacity for daily weight gain and food intake of hair sheep. a data base containing information from 29 experiments, 1189 pelibuey sheep and 93 diets was utilized. data were grouped by sex, model adequacy was analyzed using correlation and lineal regression analysis (r and r2), the mean square error or standard error of the estimate (mse), the concordance correlation coefficient (ccc, ?cb y pc ?), the mean square error of prediction (msep), the model efficiency (mef), and the determination coefficient of the model (cd). daily gain prediction was sub estimated by the model. the r, r2 and cb were higher in females than males with values of 0.84, 0.71, 0.87, 0.48, y 0.69, 0.79, respectively, the mef values indicated a better efficiency with males as compared with females with values of -0.004 y 0.443, respectively; ewes have lower mse than males, similarly msep and cd, the last one closer to the unity, indicated a better prediction by the model. it was concluded that the cncps-s model was more accurate for females and more precise for males. the evaluation of the model indicated that the cncps-s can be used for predicting daily gain on hair sheep, however some adjustments are needed in order to improve the estimations with hair sheep.
MPLS y ATM como tecnologías backbone para la transferencia de videoconferencia
López Sarmiento,Danilo; Pedraza,Luis F; Hernández,Cesar;
Tecnura , 2012,
Abstract: this article presents the results obtained by modeling the performance of a core ip/atm network compared to a crldp/ip/mpls network when carrying delay sensitive traffic (videoconferencing) with minimum resource reservation guarantees and optimal interaction between user and applications. in order conduct the experiments, opnet-modeler simulation software (educational version) was used, which encouraged alternative implementation features that help decide which of the two technologies represents a suitable solution for current networking problems, where large volumes of information need to be transmitted and the qos offered to average users is pretty poor.
ANáLISIS DESCRIPTIVO DE LOS RESULTADOS DE LOS ECAES EN ECONOMíA(2004- 2006)
SARMIENTO ESPINEL,JAIME ANDRéS; SANDOVAL GARRIDO,LUIS EDUARDO;
Revista Facultad de Ciencias Económicas: Investigación y Reflexión , 2008,
Abstract: in this document, we evaluated the obtained results in the ecaes exam in economics for the 2004-2006 period; we analyzed students, institutional and geographic descriptive measures, along with the estimation of the factors that affected the average total score of the institutions represented in the sample. a critic to the qualification method used is that it doesn't allow result comparisons for different moments of time because the results are annually standardized. by means of an analysis of covariance (ancova), we found that the quantity of students evaluated, if it is a daytime program and if the institution is accredited have positive effects on the score by institution.
