Projective generation and smoothness of congruences of order 1

Abstract: In this paper we give the projective generation of congruences of order 1 of r-dimensional projective spaces in P^N from their focal loci. In a natural way, this construction shows that the corresponding surfaces in the grassmannian are the Veronese surface, and rational ruled surfaces eventually with singularities. We characterize when these surfaces are smooth, recovering and generalizing a Ziv Ran's result.

Abstract: A well known result of Miyaoka asserts that a complex projective manifold is uniruled if its cotangent bundle restricted to a general complete intersection curve is not nef. Using the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of the tangent bundle, it can moreover be shown that the choice of such a curve gives rise to a rationally connected foliation of the manifold. In this note we show that, conversely, a movable curve can be found so that the maximal rationally connected fibration of the manifold may be recovered as a term of the associated Harder-Narasimhan filtration of the tangent bundle.

Abstract: Recently there has been renewed interest among differential geometers in the theory of Engel structures. We introduce holomorphic analogues of these structures, and pose the problem of classifying projective manifolds admitting them. Besides providing the basic properties of these varieties, we present two series of examples and characterize them by certain positivity conditions on the Engel structure.

Abstract: the main objective of this article is to raise a hypothesis to explain the main causes of overpressure in the formations of the tertiary sequence for the stratigraphic column of the colombian foothill. for this purpose it was conducted an analysis of compaction trends from the guayabo formation until the unit c8 of the carbonera formation; in the area of foreland, where the tectonic affectation has been minimal. this analysis integrates the most representative basins modeling and tectono-stratigraphic events for such sedimentary sequence. it mapped overpressure areas, comparing them with geological parameters such as the subsidence, uplift, heat flow and speeds of sedimentation, to identify relations of these parameters with the overpressure of the area. as the main result, it stresses the identification of different sedimentation and compacting rates for each tectono-stratigraphic sequence and its relationship with the overpressure of the formations. these differences are represented in specific equations presented in this work. one of the main conclusions relates the rapid uplift of the basin, occurred in mid miocene and the lack of liberation of stresses; as one of the causes of the pressures that are currently observed.

El objetivo principal de este artículo es plantear una hipótesis que explique las principales causas de sobrepresión en las formaciones de la secuencia terciaria para la columna estratigráfica del Piedemonte llanero colombiano. Para este fin se realizó un análisis de las tendencias de compactación desde la Formación Guayabo hasta la unidad C8 de la Formación Carbonera, en el área del foreland, donde la afectación tectónica ha sido mínima. En este análisis se integro el modelamiento de cuencas y los eventos tectono-estratigraficos más representativos para dicha secuencia sedimentaria. Se elaboraron mapas de las zonas sobrepresionadas, comparándolas con parámetros geológicos como la subsidencia, levantamiento, flujo de calor y velocidades de sedimentación, para identificar relaciones de estos parámetros con la sobrepresión del área. Como principal resultado se destaca la identificación de diferentes tasas de sedimentación y compactación para cada secuencia tectono-estratigrafica y su relación con la sobrepresión de las formaciones. Estas diferencias están representadas en ecuaciones específicas que se presentan en este trabajo. Una de las principales conclusiones relaciona el rápido levantamiento de la cuenca, ocurrido a mediados del Mioceno y la falta de liberación de esfuerzos; como una de las causas de las presiones que se observan

Abstract: Going one step further in Zak's classification of Scorza varieties with secant defect equal to one, we characterize the Veronese embedding of $\P^n$ given by the complete linear system of quadrics and its smooth projections from a point as the only smooth irreducible complex and non-degenerate projective subvarieties of $\P^N$ that can be projected isomorphically into $\P^{2n}$ when $N\geq\binom{n+2}{2}-2$.
Existence of rational curves on algebraic varieties, minimal rational tangents, and applications

Abstract: This survey paper discusses some of the recent progress in the study of rational curves on algebraic varieties. It was written for the survey volume of the priority programme "Global Methods in Complex Geometry", supported by the DFG. To start, we discuss existence results for rational curves on foliated manifolds. We construct the tangent morphism, define the variety of minimal rational tangents (VMRT) and name a number of results that show that many of the geometry properies of a uniruled variety are encoded in the projective geometry of the VMRT. The results are then applied in two different settings. For one, we discuss the geometry of chains of rational curves on uniruled varieties, show how the length of a variety can be determined from the VMRT and discuss the concrete example of the moduli space of vector bundles on a curve. On the other hand, the existence results for rational curves can be also be used to study manifolds which are known NOT to contain rational curves. We employ this method to study deformations of morphisms. Finally, we look at families of varieties of canonically polarized manifolds over complex surfaces, and use non-existence results for rational curves on the base to relate the variation of the family with the logarithmic Kodaira dimension of the base.
Training for Peace, Justice and Values Education of Students of the Faculty of Law: A Challenge for the University?  [PDF]

Abstract: The immediate background of this paper is a research, conducted at the law schools of the Ana-huac, Euro Hispano, Xalapa and Veracruz universities, every in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. With the aim of “Analyzing the axiological universe of the subjects of teaching-learning process, to understand the difficulties and shortcomings in order to help establish conditions that enable them to learn, acquire and prioritize their own values”. We have conducted a research design, quasi-experimental mixed descriptive quantitative and qualitative tools to enrich the collection of information; the qualitative part was collected through review of official documents provided by the universities, quantitative by process by Casares (1995) with its Test Exchange. Some features, resulting from the analysis of data obtained as answers for the valuation process that students exert at different stages of their comprehensive training as persons can be described as highly satisfactory results being the categories in each of its factors reported values above 50 percentage points in the degrees of positive satisfaction, which results in a highly significant evaluative process. Reason why we conclude that both education processes implemented by universities studied and the values assumed by students, are significantly to the role of the educational project raised by the institutions in the curriculum, in its mission and vision and the values assumed for them as distinctive notes of their training plan.
