Melo Hurtado, Dora Stella;Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692010000700024
Abstract: this paper aims to explore the concepts of self-efficacy and attitude towards consumption, approached by the theory of motivation and human behavior. this is a theoretical study based on literature. high levels of self-efficacy have beneficial consequences for the functioning of the individual. concerning attitudes towards drugs, the presence or absence of preconceptions and positive values of drugs increases risk or consumer protection. nurses should apply the concepts of self-efficacy and attitudes towards consumption to guide actions of health promotion and prevention of drug consumption in children and adolescents.

Nunes, Michelle Darezzo Rodrigues;Dupas, Giselle;Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;
Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672011000200002
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to understand how the family faces the challlenge of having a child with down syndrome among its members, so that, from this understanding, nurses can propose and carry out a careful emphasis on family responses to current and potential problems experienced. symbolic interactionism and the initial steps of grounded theory were used. the study comprised eight families and the results of a phenomenon were presented: "going though cloudy periods" and its categories: "faced with the unimaginable", "adapting to the new reality" and "living with disappointments". throughout the experience, families face periods of uncertainty and doubt, requiring new attitudes and coping with the unknown. health professionals, specifically in nursing, have remained outside the work done with these families. the need to guide and support such families is vital, particularly in coping with periods of difficulties and doubts, in order to minimize and possibly avoid them.

Abstract: this article aims to draw a historical view of the main transformations that are happening in nursing after the completion of the genome project. we present current information about genetics, the human genome project, genomic research and their interface within nursing practice, as well as vanguard proposals in various important research areas for nurses. furthermore, we describe the emergence of a new specialization area in nursing, nursing in genetics, and the international society for nurses in genetics, which standardizes its professional exercise. finally, we present some recent research data, aimed at integrating genetics and, consequently, genomics in nursing teaching, research and care.

Luiz, Flávia Mendon?a Rosa;Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Especial , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-65382012000100009
Abstract: this study aimed to explore families' experiences in the inclusion process of children with down syndrome into mainstream education, so as to get to know the potentials and limitations these clients experience during the transition period from the specialized institution into regular education and, thus, survey care needs with a view to these families' health promotion. a multiple case study with a qualitative approach was carried out. study participants were 11 mothers and one father of children with down syndrome, whose children attended a specialized institution and were referred to the mainstream education network in an interior city in state of s?o paulo. the results showed the need to monitor the families before, during and after the inclusion itself, so as to support them when searching and choosing the school, adapting the child to the new environment and during the transition between care offered at the specialized institution and other sectors. the goal of the knowledge produced in this study is to make the inclusion process of children with down syndrome into mainstream education a phase the children and their families experience as positively as possible, feeling prepared and welcomed.

Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;Rocha, Semiramis Melani Melo;Hayes, Virginia Ellen;
Texto & Contexto - Enfermagem , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-07072005000200017
Abstract: the genogram and the ecomap have revealed to be valuable instruments for understanding family processes. this study aims to describe the experience of using these instruments in collecting data for a qualitative research that involved nine families of children with cancer, which used symbolic interactionism and grounded theory as a theoretical-methodological reference framework for understanding these families' experiences. it presents the positive points to using these instruments, such as an easier approach between interviewer and interviewee; an objective picture of the intra and extra family relations; the discussion and disclosure of possible changes in the family; the identification of each family member's common and singular characteristics, and the interviewee's possibility for expression through non-verbal language. these advantages were highlighted in data collection involving children. the authors also alert to a number of limitations.

Riofrío Guillén, Rosa;Nascimento, Lucila Castanheira;
Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692010000700016
Abstract: this study aimed to characterize the predominant causes and the types of drugs consumed among young people between 10 and 18 years old at an institution that receives young lawbreakers in an ecuadorian city. a descriptive and qualitative study was carried out, using individual and semi-structured interviews as the main source of data collection. ten young people between 10 and 16 years old participated. content analysis resulted in three themes: lack of family support, influence from the environment where young people develop and ignorance about the side effects drugs produce and plans for the future. marijuana was identified as the most consumed drug, followed by alcohol and inhaled drugs. exploration of the causes that make these young people consume drugs contributes to identifying their needs and creating important spaces for health care, particularly health promotion.
