Luciana Reichert da Silva Assun??o,Robson Frederico Cunha,Ant?nio Ferelle
Pesquisa Brasileira em Odontopediatria e Clínica Integrada , 2007,
Abstract: Introduction: Studies have shown that dental traumas in the primary dentition are common events that may result in sequelae that can compromise the affected primary tooth. In the literature, the frequency of dental trauma in the primary dentition is variable, while the age range, gender, etiological factor and the most affected teeth present similar prevalence. Regarding the most common type of trauma, differences may be found due to sampling criteria, such as the type of study and site of conduction of the study. Several sequelae may be observed in traumatized primary teeth, among which coronal discoloration, pulp necrosis, root canal obliteration and root resorption. Studies have pointed to the type of trauma and the age of the child at the moment of trauma as important factors that contribute to the occurrence of these sequelae.Purpose: The purpose of this article is to present a review of relevant studies referring to epidemiological factors and sequelae in traumatized primary teeth, providing to the reader an overview of dental trauma in the primary dentition.Conclusion: In conclusion, based on the analysis of the reviewed articles, it could be observed a direct relationship between the degree of severity of the dental traumas and the occurrence of sequelae in the affected primary teeth, emphasizing the importance of periodical follow up in these cases.

Assun??o, Luciana Reichert da Silva;Ferelle, Ant?nio;Iwakura, Maria Luiza Hiromi;Nascimento, Liliane Silva do;Cunha, Robson Frederico;
Brazilian Oral Research , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-83242011000200009
Abstract: the purpose of this study was to analyze luxation injuries in children between the ages of 0 and 5 years treated at an emergency service department. a total of 1,703 records, corresponding to a period of 10 years at the emergency center of the baby clinic at londrina state university, brazil, were analyzed. the age, gender, etiologic factors, type of injury, injured teeth, treatment and time interval between injury and treatment were determined for each patient. of the examined records, 409 patients met the study criteria and included a total of 679 injured teeth. statistical analyses were carried out using the chi-square test with the level of significance set at 5%. trauma incidence was higher in boys (57.0%) and in children less than two years of age (40.3%). falling while walking or running was the most predominant etiologic factor (37.7%), and the most prevalent type of injury was subluxation (32.6%). luxation injuries decreased with increasing age (p = 0.045). treatment usually occurred within the first 1-15 days and was significantly associated with the type of trauma (p = 0.041). "monitor only" was the treatment most frequently observed (74.0%). in conclusion, more luxation injuries were found in younger children, predominantly in boys. falls resulting from walking or running were the etiologic factor most observed, with subluxation as the most common type of trauma. treatment usually occurred within the first 15 days after the injury. despite the severity of these injuries, "monitor only" was the eligible treatment.
Microphysical evidence of the transition between predominant convective/stratiform rainfall associated with the intraseasonal oscillation in the Southwest Amazon
Albrecht, Rachel Ifanger;Silva Dias, Maria Assun??o Faus da;
Acta Amazonica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0044-59672005000200007
Abstract: the distinction between convective and stratiform precipitation profiles around various precipitating systems existent in tropical regions is very important to the global atmospheric circulation, which is extremely sensitive to vertical latent heat distribution. in south america, the convective activity responds to the intraseasonal oscillation (ios). this paper analyzes a disdrometer and a radar profiler data, installed in the ji-paraná airport, ro, brazil, for the field experiment wetamc/lba & trmm/lba, during january and february of 1999. the microphysical analysis of wind regimes associated with ios showed a large difference in type, size and microphysical processes of hydrometeor growth in each wind regime: easterly regimes had more turbulence and consequently convective precipitation formation, and westerly regimes had a more stratiform precipitation formation.

Silva, Samuel da;Lopes Júnior, V.;Assun??o, E.;
Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-58782004000400008
Abstract: the study of algorithms for active vibrations control in flexible structures became an area of enormous interest, mainly due to the countless demands of an optimal performance of mechanical systems as aircraft and aerospace structures. smart structures, formed by a structure base, coupled with piezoelectric actuators and sensor are capable to guarantee the conditions demanded through the application of several types of controllers. this article shows some steps that should be followed in the design of a smart structure. it is discussed: the optimal placement of actuators, the model reduction and the controller design through techniques involving linear matrix inequalities (lmi). it is considered as constraints in lmi: the decay rate, voltage input limitation in the actuators and bounded output peak (output energy). two controllers robust to parametric variation are designed: the first one considers the actuator in non-optimal location and the second one the actuator is put in an optimal placement. the performance are compared and discussed. the simulations to illustrate the methodology are made with a cantilever beam with bonded piezoelectric actuators.

Abstract: a study was made of the hygroscopic behavior of the dry residue of pink shrimp (peneaus subtilis), characterized as being rich in total proteins (42.59%) and ash (22.01%). adsorption and desorption isotherms were plotted at 10, 25 and 40 °c. the monolayer and desorption heat values were determined and thirteen mathematical models were fitted to experimental data to predict the sorption data. the product presented type ii isotherms. the adsorption data indicated that the product's microbiological stability (aw < 0.6) would require the dry residue to contain moisture of less than 13.0 g h2o.100 g -1 dry solids in adsorption and 14.0 g h2o.100 g -1 dry solids in desorption. the monolayer's desorption values indicated that, in order to avoid unnecessary loss of energy, the residue should not be dried to a moisture level below 7.29 g h2o.100 g -1 dry solids. the values of desorption heat indicated that large amounts of energy were not required to dry the residue to appropriate levels of moisture to attain microbiological stability (aw < 0.6). the best models for predicting the sorption isotherms of the residue were oswin and halsey (biparametric); gab, modified bet, hailwood-horrobin, anderson, anderson-hall and gascoyne-pethig (triparametric).
