Abstract: the water content in seafoods is very important since it affects their sensorial quality, microbiological stability, physical characteristics and shelf life. in this study, thermoanalytical techniques were employed to develop a simple and accurate method to determine water content (moisture) by thermogravimetry (tg) and water activity from moisture content values and freezing point depression using differential scanning calorimetry (dsc). the precision of the results suggests that tg is a suitable technique to determine moisture content in biological samples. the average water content values for fish samples of lutjanus synagris and ocyurus chrysurus species were 76.4 ± 5.7% and 63.3 ± 3.9%, respectively, while that of ulva lactuca marine algae species was 76.0 ± 4.4%. the method presented here was also successfully applied to determine water activity in two species of fish and six species of marine algae collected in the atlantic coastal waters of bahia, in brazil. water activity determined in fish samples ranged from 0.946 - 0.960 and was consistent with values reported in the literature, i.e., 0.9 - 1.0. the water activity values determined in marine algae samples lay within the interval of 0.974 - 0.979.

Abstract: Objective: To understand the psychosocial effects of stroke – cerebrovascular accident (CVA) – in a low-income family context. Methods: A qualitative and descriptive research held in one of the units of Associa o Beneficente Cearense de Reabilita o (ABCR) in Fortaleza, Ceará, in the period from June to December, 2002. Six patients with sequel of CVA and their families joined in the study, regardless of age, with an average of six months of physiotherapy. For data collection we applied free observation and semi-structured interviews to patients and families, mediated by specific guiding questions for each group. From content analysis five categories emerged. Results: The difficulties of family life, the feelings of anguish and anxiety prevailed in the quest for rehabilitation, with the treatment being long, requiring determination and awareness of patient-family dyad. The fear of losing their jobs, the responsibility, the expenses and their family life were present in the discourse of patients and relatives, in addition to questions about the disease and concerns about recovery and / or healing. Final considerations: The stroke (CVA) brings as psychological effects feelings of fear, anguish and limitation, contrasting with the determination of the quest for recovery. Socially, the unemployment, both physical and financial dependence and social isolation were highlighted.

Open Journal of Rheumatology and Autoimmune Diseases (OJRA) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ojra.2019.91002
Abstract: Background: The 6-minute walk test (6TC) was initially used as an instrument for assessing physical and cardiorespiratory capacity, but is currently being used to monitor treatments, and compare physical interventions and prognostic evaluation. Although already recognized as a research method in several specialties, 6TC has not been used in rheumatology. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have impaired functional capacity as well as increased cardiovascular mortality. An adequate functional evaluation of these patients is necessary and the 6TC may be useful in this sense. Objective: The aim of this study was to perform the 6-minute walk test in RA patients and to compare the performance with a control group. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out in which the sample consisted of 85 women, 46 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 39 healthy controls. A descriptive analysis of the data was performed. One-Way ANOVA methodology was used to compare the patient and control groups followed by the graphic analysis. Results: The distance walked on the 6TC by RA patients was on average 522.2 meters. In the distance control group found in the 6TC was on average 628.8 meters, the difference being statistically significant. Conclusion: In this study the distance covered in 6TC by women with RA was lower than that of healthy women of the same age.

Journal of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering (MSCE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/msce.2017.54004
Abstract: High strength nickel based alloys are used in a multitude of advanced systems where lightweight, high power density mechanical power transmission systems are required. Components such as gears, bearings and shafts could be made significantly smaller and more durable if a major improvement in nickel based alloy mechanical properties could be achieved. An important refinement in grain size (includes nanometric level) is thought to be a promising method for achieving fundamental improvements in mechanical properties. Grain size is known to have a significant effect on the mechanical behavior of materials. One of the most favorable methods of achieving extreme grain refinement is by subjecting the materials to severe plastic deformation (SPD). The principal micro-structural variations in superalloys are the precipitation amount and morphology, grain size and the distribution of carbide precipitation that could reduce the mechanical properties of the alloys. This work shows optical and transmission electron microscopy analysis and also hardness data after severe plastic deformation (pure shear stress).
Isomorphic series of double sulfites of the Cu2SO3.MSO3.2H2O (M = Cu, Fe, Mn, and Cd) Type: a review
Silva, Luciana A. da;Andrade, Jailson B. de;
Journal of the Brazilian Chemical Society , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-50532004000200003
Abstract: although the first mixed valence double sulfite, cu2so3.cuso3.2h2o, was prepared in the early 19th century by m. chevreul, interest in this type of compound was only rekindled in the mid-1960s, when the crystalline structure of chevreul's salt was determined and its infrared spectrum characterized. studies of this type of compound have been intensified in recent years, especially after the discovery that the isomorphic cu(ii) in chrevreul's salt could be replaced by a divalent metal ion, forming an isomorphic series whose properties are strongly dependent on the nature of the m(ii) cation. because of their interesting properties, these mixed valence systems can be used as models to identify intermediates in atmospheric corrosion processes, and to evaluate the role of transition metals as catalysts of s(iv) autoxidation in the conversion of so2 in the atmosphere.
