Abstract: the objective of this study was to develop a socio-educational action group that could awake the elderly and their relatives to the perception and comprehension of the value for self-care, as an essential part for maintaining one autonomous and active life, as a way to keep the quality of life while aging and according to any circumstances in the sickness-health process. the theoretical and methodological references adopted to support the study were based upon the concepts of orem's self-care theory and the educational concepts of paulo freire. the study resulted in the construction of a socio-educational program for the action group called here and now group. in other words, a merhy′s light technology for care was implanted, focusing on health-care education as it is applied through nursing and its development arose together with hospitalized geriatric patients and their relatives. it was observed that the health-care education group efforts presented positive and noticeable results within the hospital. such results have favored the importance placed on transforming self-care behavior into autonomous, independent and interdependent behaviors, all of them quite necessary for a healthier life, mainly in the case of geriatric patients and family member care.

Abstract: El estudio objetivó desenvolver una acción socio-educativa de enfermería que despertase en la persona anciana y su familia la percepción y la comprensión del autocuidado, como algo esencial para el mantenimiento de una vida activa y autónoma, y con calidad a lo largo de su proceso de vivir envejeciendo, en cualquier circunstancia del proceso salud-enfermedad. Bajo la modalidad de una investigación convergente asistencial, el referencial teórico-metodológico se basó en los conceptos de la Teoría del Autocuidado de Orem y en las concepciones de educación de Paulo Freire. Resultó en la construcción de un programa grupal de acción socio-educativa denominado como El grupo Aquí y Ahora . O sea, una tecnología leve del cuidado con eje en la educación para la salud aplicado por la enfermería, desarrollodo se dió junto a los pacientes geriátricos hospitalizados y sus familiares acompa antes. Se observó que es posible y factible el trabajo de grupo en el ambiente hospitalario, despertando comportamientos de autocuidado para la autonomía, independencia e interdependencia, todos necesarios para un vivir más saludable, principalmente, de pacientes geriátricos y su familia cuidadora.

Abstract: La construcción de una tecnología de educación en la salud para el envejecimiento objetiva destinar a los ancianos hospitalizados y sus familias acompa antes, el aprendizaje del auto cuidado en el mantenimiento de la vida activa, en cualquier circunstancia de salud/enfermedad. Marco conceptual y metodología en base a las concepciones de Orem, Freire y Merhy, el estudio se desarrolla en una unidad hospitalaria de medicina general del hospital general. La enfermera desarrolla la educación "aquí" en el ámbito de la unidad, abordando las cuestiones del cuidado emergidas como necesarias y el "ahora" en un momento cuando es posible reunir a dos o más participantes. La educación grupal sigue las etapas: compartimiento de percepciones, conocimientos y cuestiones; articulación de las cuestiones levantadas para los conocimientos populares y profesionales; discusión de las opciones de enfrentamiento; síntesis grupal de una nueva toma de conciencia. Como resultado se verificó que es posible desarrollar la educación en grupo en el ámbito hospitalario y cuyo producto final se revierta en beneficio del anciano hospitalizado que regresa a su hogar después del alta, mejor instrumentalizado para el auto cuidado en su vida diaria; y su familia es acogida como cliente y no como una simple acompa ante. Acoplamento entre institui es de longa permanência para idosos e universidades

Abstract: Estudo de abordagem qualitativa que teve por objetivo identificar a comunica o nos nos acoplamentos estruturais entre as Institui es de Longa Permanência para Idosos (ILPIs) e as Universidades. Foram estudadas ILPIs de natureza pública e privada sem fins lucrativos, do contexto urbano brasileiro que atendem residentes sem condi es de prover a própria subsistência ou provindas de famílias de baixa renda. A coleta e análise dos dados fundamentaram-se no método analítico- funcional luhmanniano, valendo-se de entrevista com idosos e dirigentes de ILPIs na regi o metropolitana de Porto Alegre e consulta documental de material impresso das institui es. Observou-se que a presen a da Universidade na Institui o possibilita ampliar seu quadro profissional, e também potencializar e qualificar o trabalho de seus funcionários. Além da ressonancia benéfica para a ILPI, os benefícios para a Universidade transcendem o ensinamento técnico-profissional dos alunos, pois acrescentam mudan a de atitudes e ressignifica o da concep o de velhice e envelhecimento.

Abstract: the study describes the nature of care under the view of merleau-ponty′s philosophy, through research carried out among family members who take care of relatives with alzheimer's and also integrate a mutual help group. the main objective was to describe the moments in which these caregivers identified themselves as caregivers, making it possible for them to transcend in their lives′ perspectives. the methodology was based on husserl's phenomenologic reduction, which allowed for the construction of the method designated as ambiguity analysis, used in empirical data analysis obtained through non-directive interviews with 10 carers, between july, 2005 and april, 2006. seven categories emerged from the analysis, with two highlighted in the present text: intentional orientation in care giving, and the ambiguity of demands in the process of becoming a caregiver. the study has shown to be relevant for emphasizing the ambiguous character of the care giving experience and how this aspect contributes to a more optimistic glance and prospective before care as a subject.

Abstract: this study aimed to identify the structural couplings of the long term elderly care institution with the societal system, observing communications and resonances in the institution. this is a descriptive, exploratory, and qualitative study which uses the niklas luhmann functional method. the data was collected between may, 2004 and january, 2005, utilizing second order observations through interviewing seven management employees, and third order observations analyzing the communications of 52 non-profit public and private brazilian institutions. there is stagnation of a negative image surrounding these institutions, related to exclusion and abandonment. the institutions acknowledge their historical image and they propose movements of change from this view. acknowledgment of the gradual development of actions that may amplify the relationship with the community and consequently contribute toward an updated conception about them is necessary.

Abstract: nursing is responsible for servicing all hospitalized patients, including the elderly, in general hospitals. the objective of this study was to analyze the interaction process from the nursing team which cares for elderly patients in hospitals of the 17th health regional coordination/health state secretary/rio grande do sul, brazil. this interpretative and qualitative study collected its data through interviews with 74 nursing team members, including nurses, technicians, and nursing assistants in 14 hospitals. data was analyzed in the light of symbolic interactionism and resulting in categories of meanings from interactions and attitude about: nursing professionals, lack of capacitance validity, process of caring hospitalized elderly patients from the way the phenomenon is in their social life; on the attitude, it is considered the importance of specialized training in gerontogeriatry without disregarding personal vocation to the care of the elderly as essential.
