Abstract:

This article brings a discussion about using the Cost Deployment methodology for technological innovation in the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) systems at Fiat Group Automobiles Production System (FAPS). It aims to show how this tool acts in the technical pillars of the WCM, and its proper use as an alternative to innovate in production processes, achieving a drastic reduction in wastes and cost optimization during specific activities in production systems. The Cost Deployment builds a distinctive transversal method of WCM which helps to promote and provide extremely effectiveness in the activation of more specific methods that have been tried successfully in the Japanese manufacturing improvements. It also allows to link the operational performances, usually measured with indicators such as efficiency, providing number of defects, hours of desaturation. The used methodology was based on a literature review about the proposed topic. It ends up finding that the Cost Deployment tool is one of the most sophisticated technological innovations existing for the production systems of the World Class Manufacturing.

Three-Dimensional Shear Wave Velocity Structure of the Northeastern Brazilian Lithosphere  [PDF]
Jorge Luis de Souza, Newton Pereira dos Santos, Carlos da Silva Vilar
International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2016.76063
Abstract: A large number of Rayleigh wave dispersion curves recorded at twenty three seismic stations was used to investigate the 3-D shear wave velocity structure of the northeastern Brazilian lithosphere. A simple procedure to generate a three-dimensional image of Mohorovicic; discontinuity was applied in northeastern Brazil and the Moho 3-D image was in agreement with several isolated crustal thicknesses obtained with different geophysical methods. A detailed 3-D S wave velocity model is proposed for the region. In the crust, our model is more realist than CRUST2.0 global model, because it shows more details either laterally or in depth than global model, i.e., clear lateral variation and gradual increase of S wave velocity in depth. Down to 100 km depth, the 3-D S wave velocity model in northeastern Brazil is dominated by low velocities and this is consistent either with heat flow measurements or with measurements of the flexural strength of the lithosphere developed in the South American continent. Our 3-D S wave velocity model was also used to obtain the lithosphere thickness in each cell of the northeastern Brazil and the results were consistent with global studies about the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere Boundary worldwide.

Advances in Remote Sensing (ARS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ars.2015.43019
Abstract: The main objective of this paper was to evaluate the daily actual evapotranspiration (ET) accuracy obtained by remote sensing algorithms when compared with Bowen ratio measurements performed in the cotton fields. The experiment was conducted in a cotton experimental field of EMBRAPA located in Ceará State, Brazil. Seven TM Landsat-5 images acquired in 2005 and 2008 were used to perform SEBAL and SSEB algorithms. The comparison between the estimated values by remoting sensing algorithms and the measured values in situ showed an acceptable accuracy. Besides, SSEB algorithm showed to be an important tool for ET analysis in the semi-arid regions, due to the fact that it does not need the meteorological data to solve the energy balance, but only the average temperature of the “hot” and “cold” pixels. Additionally, SSEB presents simpler processing than SEBAL algorithm that needs to solve an iterative process to obtain the sensible heat flux values.

Holos Environment , 2001,
Abstract: The oxygen consumption of the millipede Oxidus gracilis was determined in an Warburg respirometer at 25oC, using males and females in order to detect the physioecologic and metabolic responses related to size, sex and alimentary conditions. Expressing metabolism (M) in function to body mass (P), and employing logarithmic data in the allometrical relationships, result of the M = a. Pb equations, were: M = 2,589.P0,89 for males (21 individuals), M = 2,715.P0,78 for females (24 individuals), and M = 2,6814.P0,86 for males and females, conjointly. The regression coefficients (b indexes) showed that respiratory metabolism of Oxidus gracilis would stay in an intermediary level of dependence between body mass, and body surface. The effects of alimentary condition were studied right before feeding, and after 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours of fasting. At the end of the 5th day (96 h), animals had a reduction of 21,46% in body mass, and 52,37% in oxygen uptake. In both cases, reductions were significant (P<0,05). Despite of no deaths have occurred, results indicate that stress due to abstinence from food, produce more changes in metabolism than in body mass of Oxidus gracilis.
OXYGEN CONSUMPTION RELATED TO TEMPERATURE AND PHOTOPERIOD IN Oxidus gracilis (Diplopoda, Polydesmida, Strongylosomidae) = METABOLISMO RESPIRATóRIO EM RELA O à TEMPERATURA E FOTOPERíODO EM Oxidus gracilis (Diplopoda, Polydesmida, Strongylosomidae)

Holos Environment , 2003,
Abstract: The respiratory metabolism of Oxidus gracilis was searched considering the parameters temperature and photoperiod trying, in the first case, to detect accidental compensatory adjusts imposed by temperature variations, and in the second, the metabolic changes of the activity rhythm in the 24 hours period. In both cases the datawere obtained in a microrespirometer of Warburg, using flasks of 20 ml containing 0,3 ml of 14% KOH solution for absorption of the CO2 exhaled in respiration. The tests with temperature were made at 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, 35° and 40°C, and in those ones of metabolic rhythms, the measures were made only at 25°C, during 24 hours, in which the data were collected during one hour every 3 hours. The data were shown as respiratory rates translated into m l O2 g(live)-1.hour-1. The results showed the occurrence of one metabolic stablishing in the R-T curve (Respiration-Temperature), and "plateaux" were detected among the temperatures of 20° and 25°, 25° and 30°, 30° and 35°, as well as among 20° and 30°, 20° and 35°, and between 15° and 30°C. Below 15°C, that is, at 10° and 5° the millipedes got emotionless by cold in a situation of reversible narcosis. At the high temperatures, between 35° and 40°C, it was detected the smallest index of metabolicrange (Q10=0,52), and at 40°C some millipedes showed the effects of torpor by the heat. In the tests of rhythms of 24 hours, the respiratory rates of Oxidus gracilis were higher at night than during the day, confirming data widely found in the literature about thenocturnal behavioral habits of millipedes in general. The results also suggest the existence of a metabolic control mechanism for temperature variations in Oxidus gracilis, and its nocturnal behavior could indicate, besides an expected energetic economy, a good resource to control the water loss by dehydration.
