Correia,Luís de Miranda;
Análise Psicológica , 2004,
Abstract: the portuguese legislation on special education does not consider learning disabilities as a category of the special educational needs spectrum. as such, students with learning disabilities are not entitled to receive specialized services needed to answer to their special needs. this article attempts to demonstrate that learning disabilities is a category of the special educational needs spectrum; therefore, the students with learning disabilities should receive special educational services when recommended in their individualized educational programs (iep).
Correia, Luís de Miranda;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Especial , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-65382007000200002
Abstract: we know today that there is a group of children whose neurological disorders interfere with their way of processing information that, in many instances, will require the services and support of special education. these kinds of disorders usually affect the student's ability to read, write or do math calculations, or even affect the acquisition of social skills; the students who present them are generally called students with specific learning disabilities (sld). however, in portugal this seems not to be the case. by not considering sld an area of disability that qualifies for special services, the ministry of education is limiting the access of students who present them to sound educational programs, thus preventing them from learning effectively in accordance to their characteristics and needs. with this in mind, this article attempts to conceptualize a portuguese definition of sld that could lead to an understanding of such a misguided issue and, thus, contribute to the elaboration of effective educational responses for students who present sld.
Evaluating to intervene: an educational model for students with special needs
Luís de Miranda Correia,Andréa Tonini
Revista Educa??o Especial , 2012,
Abstract: As is well known, education is concerned with the change of an individual’s behaviors in order to provoke learning. However, many educators have difficulty in considering strategies that facilitate this change and, therefore, run the risk of witnessing the educational failure of some of their students. In the case of students with special needs (SN) it is imperative to consider a process that allows them to be exposed to an appropriate education which should take into account their characteristics, abilities and needs. With this end in mind, this article is intended to describe a model that makes it possible to reach effective interventions through a careful observation/evaluation of a student and of his learning environments. This model, called Modelo de Atendimento à Diversidade (MAD) has as its primary goal the promotion of quality educational practices, monitoring the progress of a student and, consequently, adjusting teaching to his answers according to his abilities and needs.

Revista Educa??o Especial , 2012, DOI: 10.5902/1984686x6534
Abstract: what do the leaders of the municipal health service (sms) report and say about the systematic monitoring and evaluation of their own government management? the purpose of this paper is to provide input for the formulation of plausible hypotheses about such institutional processes and practices based on information produced in an exploratory study. this is a multiple case study with quantitative and qualitative analysis of answers to a semi-structured questionnaire given to government officials of a systematic sample of 577 municipal health services (10.4% of the total in brazil). they were selected and stratified by proportional distribution among states and by the population size of municipalities. in general, it shows that approximately half of the respondents use information from health monitoring evaluations to orient decision-making, planning and other management approaches. this proportion tends to decrease in cities with smaller populations. there are specific and significant gaps in financial, personnel and crisis management. the evidence from the hypotheses highlights the fact that these processes are still at an early stage.
Design and Scheduling of Chemical Batch Processes: Generalizing a Deterministic to a Stochastic Model
de Miranda Jo?o Luís,Casquilho Miguel
Theory and Applications of Mathematics & Computer Science , 2011,
Abstract: A stochastic optimization model for the design and scheduling of batch chemical processes is developed in a Two-Stage Stochastic Programming framework, with the uncertainty formulated through a number of discrete scenarios. The sparse model presents binary variables in the first stage and systematically generalizes a deterministic model chosen from the literature, in an approach based on computational complexity. The combination of single product campaign (SPC) with multiple machines was found to be the most promising from a computational standpoint, and it is here generalized toward a stochastic environment within the relaxation of the soft demand constraints. Numerical examples are presented, and the results point to a significant reduction of 8-20 % of the investment costs in comparison to the SPC non-relaxed case, without real losses if the multiple product campaign (MPC) policy is adopted.
Anatomy and Histochemistry of Araticum (Annona crassiflora Mart.) on Three Annonaceae Rootstocks  [PDF]

The cultivation knowledge about the Cerrado native fruits is incipient. These plants are found in wild conditions and its fruits are obtained through extraction, as the case of araticum (Annona crassiflora Mart.), which is a species with the great economic potential. This plant propagation by grafting, among other methods, has proved problematic. Possible incompatibility causes were investigated using histochemical and anatomical studies. Transverse and longitudinal stems sections were analyzed in the araticum grafting area on rootstocks of araticum-de-terra-fria (Annona emarginata (Schltdl.) H. Rainer “Terra-fria”), biribá (Annona mucosa (Jacq.) Baill), and soursop (Annona muricata L.). Araticum graft survival rate was low with these rootstocks, which seems to be associated with anatomical and histochemical factors. The periderm and pith are more developed in araticum than in the other plants, which affects the alignment and juxtaposition of the cambium and vascular bundles in the graft area, hindering a successful graft. The histochemical reactions for phenolic compounds detection were very strong in cortical parenchyma, pith and xylem fibers of araticum (A. crassiflora). The presence of phenolic compounds is increased depending on the cut for grafting and the formation of these compounds is evidenced as an important limiting factor for successful grafting. It is recommended practices for reducing these compounds and a larger diameter of the graft, as a mean to overcome these anatomical difficulties.

Successful Conservative Management of Emphysematous Phlegmonous Gastritis: A Case Report
Ferreira,Carlos Noronha; Correia,Luís; Barjas,Elídio; Serejo,Fátima; Moura,Miguel Carneiro de;
Jornal Português de Gastrenterologia , 2010,
Abstract: background: acute phlegmonous gastritis is a suppurative bacterial infection of the stomach first described by curveilhier in 1820. the two variants which have been described are the emphysematous and the necrotizing variant. case report: a 30 year old male presented with vomiting and diarrhea over 24 hours. laboratory tests revealed leukocytosis, neutrophilia and raised c reactive protein (crp) levels. the abdominal ct scan showed a diffusely thickened stomach wall with intramural gas as well as in the peripheral intra-hepatic vessels. there was complete resolution of the emphysematous gastritis changes on empirical broad spectrum antibiotic therapy for 10 days with resolution of the emphysematous gastritis changes; oral diet was started. an exhaustive investigation for a possible etiological factor of emphysematous gastritis was inconclusive. the patient was dis-charged on the 11th day. an abdominal ct scan and upper gi endoscopy repeated after discharge were normal. conclusions: this report describes the successful management of a patient with the emphysematous variant of phlegmonous gastritis with broad spectrum antibiotic treatment. we review the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and management of this rare, often fatal pathology.
O euro e o crescimento da economia portuguesa: uma análise contrafactual The euro and the growth of the Portuguese economy: a counter-factual analysis
O objetivo da análise contrafactual desenvolvida neste artigo é quantificar o impacto do euro no crescimento do produto interno bruto português. Portugal faced a decade of feeble economic growth after joining the European Economic and Monetary Union. Systematic research of the specific effects of this regime change on growth is still lacking. The -counterfactual analysis that we undertake in this paper seeks to fill such a gap. Our findings suggest that the adoption of the Euro did have adverse effects on Portuguese economy. To the contrary, in 2009, the Euro seems to have sheltered the -Portuguese economy from the worse effects of the international financial crisis.

The cultivation of the marine species of shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei has emerged as one of the segments that best develop in the Brazilian aquaculture, representing the agribusiness that grew the most in recent years. Regarding the economic importance of the farming of this species in Brazil, further studies on genetic improvement were conducted. A F2 segregating population consisting of 192 samples for each G1 and G2 families, from crossing inbred lines was used for the studies performed in the present work. The genetic linkage analysis was based on polymorphic markers derived from nine AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) primers. Fourteen genetic linkage groups including 103 segregating polymorphic markers were constructed covering350 cMfor G1 and four genetic linkage groups including 59 markers were constructed covering300 cMfor G2. Simple marker analyses were performed among individuals evaluated phenotypically, finding markers linked to genes that may be potentially important and useful to assess characteristics of economic importance for traits related to weight and the disease IMN (idiopathic muscle necrosis). The statistical model including markers explained major proportion of phenotypic characteristic weight in relation to disease incidence IMN.
