Palabra Clave , 2011,

Abstract: the endocrine system and the immune system suffer significant alterations in order to provide a normal evolution of the gestation. this review delineates the main endocrine modifications that occur during the pregnancy, pointing out the importance of the adeno, the neuro-hypophysis, the adrenal glands and the thyroid in the multiplicity of the hormonal alterations, whose objective consists of providing a fetal-maternal relationship, that allows the perfect physical and psychoneurological development of the embryo on an immune tolerance hormone environment. also mentioned are the main hormonal factors in the induction of the th2 state during the gestation, pointing out the action of t cells, nk cells, the macrophages and the cytokines on the immune modulation in the pregnancy.
Professional diversity and the productivity of cities

Computer Science , 2012, DOI: 10.1038/srep05393
Abstract: The relationships between diversity, productivity and scale determine much of the structure and robustness of complex biological and social systems. While arguments for the link between specialization and productivity are common, diversity has often been invoked as a hedging strategy, allowing systems to evolve in response to environmental change. Despite their general appeal, these arguments have not typically produced quantitative predictions for optimal levels of functional diversity consistent with observations. One important reason why these relationships have resisted formalization is the idiosyncratic nature of diversity measures, which depend on given classification schemes. Here, we address these issues by analyzing the statistics of professions in cities and show how their probability distribution takes a universal scale-invariant form, common to all cities, obtained in the limit of infinite resolution of given taxonomies. We propose a model that generates the form and parameters of this distribution via the introduction of new occupations at a rate leading to individual specialization subject to the preservation of access to overall function via their ego social networks. This perspective unifies ideas about the importance of network structure in ecology and of innovation as a recombinatory process with economic concepts of productivity gains obtained through the division and coordination of labor, stimulated by scale.

Abstract: health center facilities are areas where patients who have a greater or lesser degree of immunological compromise congregate. in this context, the hospital environment is a space where nosocomial diseases could be acquired causing deterioration of the preexistent clinical condition. this study carried out evaluations in hospital environments at health centers in the city of valencia, venezuela, taking into account critical areas such as operating theatres. for sample collection, methodologies established by the spanish technical standards were taken into account. the air samples taken over nutritivo and sabouraud cultivation media were incubated at 37°c for 24-72 hours, to determine the ufc/m3 for the air. following a 24-hour incubation at 37°c, the bacterial charges (ufc/m3) were determined. additionally, temperature and relative humidity were measured. taxonomical identification was achieved through a computerized biochemical test (api galleries). five out of the six health centers evidenced more than 10ufc/m3 and 20 ufc/m3 for the bacterial and fungal charges, respectively. these values are higher than those allowed by official legislation. the most frequently detected microorganisms were staphylococcus spp, pseudomonas aeruginosa, bacillus spp., acinetobacter lowfii, aspergillus nidulans, a. terreus and geotrichum candidum. the temperature and relative humidity were always higher than 20°c and 45%, whereas ranges established by the ntp 409 norm are 15-18oc and 50-70%, respectively. it seems there is little commitment to applying correct measures to comply fully with standards for patient handling in critical areas, favoring an environment conducive to microbial development, as well as factors such as temperature, relative humidity and air conditioning systems, which do not comply with what is indicated in international technical standards.

Arquivos de Medicina , 2008,
Abstract: graves’disease is the major cause of hyperthyroidism. it is an autoimmune disease of a certainly multifactorial unknown etiology, with genetic predisposition evidence. its frequency, the autoimmune nature and the potentially serious consequences of the untreated disease make it an object of intense investigation, being in mind the best understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms and the discovery of new and more efficient therapeutics, ideally directed against the autoimmune process itself. the authors decided to bring together in this revision the most relevant current knowledge on this subject, in way to optimize the quality of the clinical practice.
