Química Nova , 2002,
Abstract: The reaction between hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene and isophorone diisocyanate constitutes the base of the curing process of the most composite solid propellant used in the propulsion of solid rocket propellant. In this work, differential scanning calorimetry and viscosity measurements were used to evaluate the effect of the ferric acetylacetonate catalyst concentration on the reaction between HTBR and IPDI. These analyses show one exotherm, which shifts to lower temperatures as the catalyst concentration increases. The viscosity analyses show that the increase of temperature causes, at first, a reduction in the mixture viscosity, reaching a minimum range called gelification region (increasing the crosslinking density).

Abstract: introduction: ufpr litoral with its innovative ppp (political-pedagogical project), based on complexity theory, is finalizing the implementation of its first physical therapy graduating group. objectives: to comment some of the theoretical basis which sustain the project, presenting the experience of ppp's collective construction process, focusing three curricular components. metodology: qualitative, with a theoretical-reflexive approach. results: ppp's construction resulted in a curricular organization based in three componets: tpf (theoretical and practical fundaments), lp (learning projects) and chi (cultural and humanistic interactions). tpf consists about 60% of the curriculum, comprehending thematic modules elaborated by interdisciplinary professors team, based on the contextualized situation of the profession reality outside the campus. all contents taught follow brazillian national curricular guidance and national health system. the pa allows students to develop projects, mediated by professors involving the triad: teaching-research-extension. these are contextualized to the reality of parana's coastal communities, and also extended or amplified to other communities. the chi (consisting 20% of the curriculum) allows the future professionals to experience the complexity of human being and its integration to the surrounding environment, once they share experiences with other graduation courses and communities. conclusions: throughout all these processes, ufpr students demonstrate distinguished characteristics, that come from generalist, humanist, critical and reflexive praxis, as recommended by national curricular guidance. so we hope these experiences provide articulation of knowledge and practices, developing qualified professionals and conscious citizens who care for the collectivity.

Abstract: a bio-economic model was developed to calculate costs and revenues to obtain economic values (ev) for performance traits of beef cattle in production systems in brazil. performance records, economic and biologic parameters were obtained from a nelore breeding herd. two production systems: complete breeding cycle (cbcr) and cow-calf (cc) were simulated using a deterministic and static model. costs, revenues and the annual profits were calculated using excel? to obtain the economic values for weaning weight (ww), mature weight (mw), pregnancy rate (pr) and weaning rate (wr) in both systems. the impact of changes in genetic level of traits on annual profits of the production systems were evaluated by increasing the original values of the traits by 1%. this increase resulted in positive changes on profits and the greatest impact was for wr in both systems. ev for ww, mw, pr, wr in cbcr and cc systems were respectively r$ 0.40/kg, r$ 0.09/kg, r$ 3.20/1%; r$ 10.15/1% and r$ 1.31/kg, r$ 0.09/kg, r$ 2.41/1% and r$ 3.36/1%. the bio-economic model satisfactorily described the beef cattle production systems and can be adapted to other production circumstances.
Objetivos de sele??o e valores econ?micos em sistemas de produ??o de gado de corte no Brasil

Abstract: economic values were calculated to evaluate the economic importance of possible traits to be included in breeding goals, for different production systems of nelore cattle. two types of production systems (cow-calf and complete breeding cycles) were simulated for two types of herds. herd 1 was defined as a nucleus herd (where selection was carried out and a percentage of animals were also raised for commercial purposes), with cow-calf (cc), complete breeding cycle (cbc) and complete breeding cycle with sales of animals for reproduction (cbcr). herd 2 was defined as an exclusively commercial herd, with cow-calf cycle (cc) and complete breeding cycle (cbc). using a bio-economic model, economic values were calculated for the following traits: weaning weight (ww), weaning rate (wr), mature weight (mw), average daily gain in feed-lot (dag), slaughter (ws) and carcass weights (wc), young bulls' final weight (fwyb), dressing percentage (dp), feed-lot (flfi) and pasture feed intakes (pfi). the economic values for cbc and cbcr (herds 1 and 2) ranged from r$ 0.34 to r$ 0.40 for ww, r$ 3.51 to r$ 10.15 for wr, -r$ 0.16 to r$ 0.09 for mw, r$ 0.32 to r$ 0.76 for flfi, r$ 1.09 to r$ 1.17 for ws; r$ 2.03 to r$ 2.19 for wc, r$ 23.89 to r$ 28.61 for yg, r$ 11.85 for fwyb, - r$ 0.45 for flfi and - r$ 0.03 for pfi. wr and dp presented the largest impacts on annual profits in both herds. sensitivity analyses indicated that, in general, possible changes in prices of production components and products would exert a greater influence on the economic values for those production systems with higher prices in the basic situation.
