Distribución relativa de genotipos de virus papiloma humano en muestras de carcinoma escamoso de laringe

Abstract: introduction: human papillomaviruses (hpv) have been detected in benign and neoplastic laryngeal lesions, with variable frequency (20-60%). these viral agents are proposed as an adjuvant or cofactor in head and neck carcinogenesis because of their oncogenic properties. aim: the aim of this study was to identify hpv in laryngeal carcinoma samples and to describe their genotype distribution. material and method: tumor samples from patients with newly diagnosed laryngeal carcinomas were collected, fixed in formalin and paraffin-embedded. hpv genome was identified by use of polymerase chain reaction (pcr) using primers complementary to the conserved region l1 (my09-11). genotyping was accomplished by restriction fragment length polymorphism. results: 24 of the 90 samples were positive for hpvdna (27%), all of the samples were positive for human 3-globin. the genotypes identified were hpv 16(5 cases), hpv 18 (7 cases), and hpv 39, 45, 51, 58, 59, 61, and 66 (1 case each). conclusions: high-risk hpv genotypes were identified, suggesting a role of human papilloma virus in the etiology of a subgroup of laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas.

Abstract: Introducción: La relación entre virus papiloma humano (VPH) y cáncer escamoso de la vía aéreo-digestiva superior está claramente establecida en la literatura. Objetivo: El objetivo del presente trabajo es conocer la frecuencia de identificación de ADN de VPH y la distribución relativa de genotipos en muestras de carcinoma escamoso de laringe. Material y método: Se extrajo ADN desde muestras fijadas en formalina e incluidas en parafina, de biopsias de carcinoma escamoso de laringe de pacientes operados en el Servicio de Otorrinolaringología del Hospital San Juan de Dios. La detección de ADN viral se realizó mediante PCR con partidores de consenso MY09/11, y la genotipificación se realizó mediante endonucleasas de restricción Rsal. La calidad de la muestra se controló mediante amplificación de -globina. Resultados: Se incluyeron 90 casos. En 24 de ellos (27%) se identificó la presencia de ADN de VPH. Los genotipos más frecuentes fueron VPH18 (7/24), VPH16 (5/24), VPH54 (2/ 24). En 3 casos no se logró identificar el genotipo. No se detectaron infecciones múltiples. Conclusiones: La presencia de genotipos de VPH de alto riesgo oncogénico sugieren que el virus papiloma humano tendría un rol en la etiopatogenia de un subgrupo de pacientes portadores de carcinoma escamoso de laringe. Abstract: The BRST anomaly which may be present in the induced $W_n$ gravity quantized on the light-cone is evaluated in the geometrical framework of Zucchini. The cocycles linked by the cohomology of the BRST operator to the anomaly are straightforwardly calculated thanks to the analogy between this formulation and the Yang-Mills theory. We give also a conformally covariant formulation of these quantities including the anomaly, which is valid on arbitrary Riemann surfaces. The example of the $W_3$ theory is discussed and a comparison with other candidates for the anomaly available in the literature is presented.

Abstract: enteral nutrition is a technique that even though it was used in times immemorial, in the last 25 years has suffered a considerable development, from being considered a secondary therapeutic weapon destined only to feed the patient, to occupying an important status that goes beyond the single act of nourishing. the quantitative composition but overall the qualitative one, is object of an interesting argument in which a profile allowing the modulation of certain aspects of the organism response through the supplementation with different nutrients is searched. that includes from the keeping of the intestinal trophism and of the anti-bacteria intestinal barrier, so important to avoid the frightening multiple organ dysfunction, up to the lessening of the systemic response inflammatory syndrome (sris), going through the immuno-modulative feeding concepts, specific- feeding, pharmaco-nutrient or eco-nutrition. in this new dynamic not only certain nutrients such as glutamine, arginine, nucleotides, ω-3 fatty acids and many antioxidants have acquired importance, but also the manipulation of other molecules of a non- nutritional nature, such as hormones, cytokines and blockers. these aspects that imply passionate ways of investigation for the future are born from the better knowledge that is being acquired from such a severe pathophysiology processes such as sepsis and the organism response before fast and severe aggression; therefore, the modulation of that response through changes in the quantitative and qualitative formulas composition is being attempted.

Abstract: La Nutrición Enteral es una técnica que aunque utilizada desde tiempos inmemoriales, ha sido en los últimos 25 a os cuando ha experimentado un desarrollo considerable, pasando de ser un elemento terapéutico secundario, destinado exclusivamente a alimentar al paciente, a ocupar en la actualidad un papel importante que va mucho más allá del simple acto de nutrir. La composición cuantitativa pero sobre todo la cualitativa, es objeto de un interesante debate en el que se busca un perfil que permita modular determinados aspectos de la respuesta del organismo mediante el enriquecimiento con distintos nutrientes. Ello incluye desde el mantenimiento del trofismo intestinal y de la "barrera intestinal" antibacteriana, tan importante para prevenir el temido fracaso multiórgánico, hasta la atenuación del Síndrome de la Respuesta Inflamatoria Sistémica, pasando por los conceptos de alimentación inmunomoduladora, alimentación organoespecífica, farmaconutrientes o econutrición. En ésta nueva dinámica han adquirido importancia determinados nutrientes como la glutamina, arginina, nucleótidos, ácidos grasos de la serie ω-3 y antioxidantes diversos, así como la manipulación de otras moléculas de naturaleza no nutricional, como hormonas, factores de crecimiento, citoquinas y bloqueantes. Estos aspectos que suponen para el futuro unas apasionantes vías de investigación, nacen del mejor conocimiento que se va teniendo de la fisiopatología de procesos tan graves como la sepsis, y de la reacción del organismo ante el ayuno y la agresión grave, de modo que se está intentando modular dicha respuesta a través de cambios en la composición cuantitativa y cualitativa de las fórmulas. Abstract: Introducción: La calidad de las grasas y aceites utilizados para frituras es tan importante como la calidad del producto final, ya que durante el proceso de fritura se desarrollan productos de oxidación que pasan a formar parte de la dieta pudiendo ser nocivos para la salud de los consumidores. Objetivo: determinar los efectos del consumo de grasas y aceites termo-oxidados sobre la oxidación de lipoproteínas plasmáticas en ratas de laboratorio. Métodos: determinación, mediante técnicas espectrofotométricas, de sustancias que reaccionan con el ácido tiobarbitúrico y colesterol total (método enzimático) en el suero de 40 ratas de la cepa wistar que consumieron aceites y grasas crudas y termo-oxidadas con diferentes niveles de malonilaldehido (MDA) durante 30 días. Resultados: El grupo de animales que recibió dieta con aceites y grasa termo-oxidados experimentaron aumentos significativos en la concentración plasmática de MDA a lo largo del período de estudio, siendo la peroxidación lipídica mayor cuanto mayor fue el contenido de MDA (p < 0,05), independientemente del tipo de materia grasa consumida. Sin embargo aquellos que recibieron aceites y grasas en estado crudo mantuvieron los niveles plasmáticos de peróxidos lipídicos sin cambios significativos durante el período de experimentación (p > 0,05). En cambio, la colesterolemia aumentó hacia el final del período experimental tanto en aquellos animales que consumieron materias grasas crudas como las que las tomaron termo-oxidadas (p < 0,05). Conclusiones: el consumo de aceites y grasa sometidos a sucesivos calentamientos térmicos influye sobre la peroxidación lipídica plasmática y es mayor cuanto mayor sea el número de calentamientos aplicados, por lo que sería recomendable no abusar del recalentamiento de los aceites utilizados en la frituras. Abstract: Scale invariant properties of seismicity argue for the presence of complex triggering mechanisms. We propose a new method, based on the space-time combined generalization of the correlation integral, that leads to a self-consistent visualization and analysis of both spatial and temporal correlations. The analysis has been applied on global medium-high seismicity. Results show that earthquakes do interact even on long distances and are correlated in time within defined spatial ranges varying over elapsed time. On that base we redefine the aftershock concept.
Postharvest Sensory and Phenolic Characterization of ‘Elegant Lady’ and ‘Carson’ Peaches Caracterización Fenólica y Sensorial en Poscosecha de Duraznos ‘Elegant Lady’ y ‘Carson’

Abstract: High quality fruits are increasingly demanded along with the need to ensure this attribute to consumers. Thus, this study was aimed at characterizing a melting (‘Elegant Lady’) and a non-melting flesh (‘Carson’) peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) varieties by considering both their bioactive compound contribution and their sensory quality in ripe fruit at harvest and after a prolonged period of cold storage. Cultivars were evaluated at harvest (F0) and after 30 d of cold storage (F30), as well as after a maturation period at 20 °C for both F0 and F30 (R0 and R30, respectively). Fruit weight, flesh firmness, soluble solid content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), and background color (Hue) were recorded at each stage. Furthermore, total phenol content was measured and a phenolic characterization by HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) was performed for both varieties to detect the major low molecular weight phenolic compounds present in the fruit. Finally, a trained panel assessed the main sensorial parameters at R0 and R30. Total phenol content did not change significantly as a result of cold storage and differences were probably attributed only to genotype. Low molecular weight phenolic compounds were detected in ‘Elegant Lady’ and ‘Carson’, 15 and 12, respectively; (+)-catechin was the major compound found in both cultivars, but in higher concentrations in ‘Elegant Lady’. In the phenolic characterization, ‘Elegant Lady’ was observed more closely than ‘Carson’ for flavonoids. After 30 d of cold storage, ‘Elegant Lady’ was unacceptable for consumption due to the appearance of physiological disorders such as wooliness while ‘Carson’ showed a mean score within the acceptability range. La demanda de fruta de alta calidad se ha incrementado junto con la necesidad de asegurar este atributo a los consumidores. En este sentido, el objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar durazno (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) de variedades de pulpa fundente (‘Elegant Lady’) y no fundente (‘Carson’), considerando su contribución de compuestos bioactivos y su calidad sensorial en fruta madura a cosecha y luego de un período prolongado de almacenamiento refrigerado. Las variedades fueron evaluadas a la cosecha (F0) y luego de 30 d de almacenamiento refrigerado (F30), además de un período de maduración a 20 oC en F0 y F30 (R0 y R30, respectivamente). Se registró el peso del fruto, firmeza de pulpa, contenido de sólidos solubles (CSS), acidez titulable (TA), y color de fondo (Hue) en cada tratamiento. Vocabulary growth in collaborative tagging systems

Abstract: We analyze a large-scale snapshot of del.icio.us and investigate how the number of different tags in the system grows as a function of a suitably defined notion of time. We study the temporal evolution of the global vocabulary size, i.e. the number of distinct tags in the entire system, as well as the evolution of local vocabularies, that is the growth of the number of distinct tags used in the context of a given resource or user. In both cases, we find power-law behaviors with exponents smaller than one. Surprisingly, the observed growth behaviors are remarkably regular throughout the entire history of the system and across very different resources being bookmarked. Similar sub-linear laws of growth have been observed in written text, and this qualitative universality calls for an explanation and points in the direction of non-trivial cognitive processes in the complex interaction patterns characterizing collaborative tagging.
