Methodology of Sustainability Indicators Determination for Enterprise Assessment
Loreta Kinderyt
Environmental Research, Engineering and Management , 2010, DOI: 10.5755/j01.erem.52.2.73
Abstract: Lithuanian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) need the indicators system for evaluating their sustainability. Because of some difficulties to quantify the aspects of sustainability, not only quantitative but also qualitative indicators are recommended. To select sustainability indicators, an initial set of quantitative indicators was compiled from both sustainability indicators and separate environmental indicators systems. A qualitative indicators set was compiled from one developed qualitative indicators system. The survey of experts was organized for determining qualitative and quantitative sustainability indicators. Budget allocation processes were used as a weighting method. To adjust indicators and weighting coefficients for enterprises in developing or developed countries determination and weighting procedure by national experts should be repeated. Assessment according to the standardized methodology can show only essential problems and it is the first step towards the improvement process.
Pierre’o Bourdieu literatūros sociologija | Pierre Bourdieu’s Sociology of Literature
Loreta Jakonyt?
Literatura , 2005,
Abstract: The paper deals with the sociology of literature of Pierre Bourdieu, one of the most influential figures in contemporary sociology of art. Initially, Bourdieu intended to overcome dichotomy of formalistic and contextual approaches, to transcend both the subjectivism and objectivism and to situate culture within broader social context and power relations. The sociologist suggested a systematic approach to literary practise and elaborated a theory of fields, the key terms of which are field, habitus, economic, social, cultural and symbolic capital, struggles, stake, structural homology, positions, dispositions, domination, strategy etc. The specificity of the literary field is defined mostly by the concepts of relative autonomy and “reversed” economy. Bourdieu examines the social positions of individuals and institutions involved in making cultural products (writers, publishers, critics, readers etc.), the social conditions, circulation and consumption of literary works. In this conceptual framework, literary text gains a specific status as the independent object of analysis (even such literary features as genre, narrative devices, types of characters etc. have special social meaning and function), what distinguishes Bourdieu from many his predecessors. His practical researches bring together various methods and combine empirical analysis with a strong theoretical frame. Numerous contemporary projects of sociology of culture are based on Bourdieu’s ideas. Some issues, however, have been brought for discussion, especially the universality of the notions and the concept of autonomy. Bourdieu constructed a powerful, highly theoretically structured model for interpretation of literature. It integrates every element of culture and provides tools for revealing their complex dialectical relations. Bourdieu’s sociology of literature might be a beneficial mode of analysis for Lithuanian literary scholars.
Ar dvikalbyst – dvikultūr s tapatyb s laidas? Is bilingualism a guarantee of bicultural identity?
Loreta Vilkien?
Kalbotyra , 2011,
Abstract: The article seeks an answer to the question whether Russians, who speak Lithuanian and can be considered bilingual, are individuals of bicultural identity or whether they remain monocultural L2 users. In other words the issue is how much Lithuanian culture is important to the respondents of the target group. The data analyzed are quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews carried out during the project “Language Usage and National Identity in Lithuanian Cities” (2007-2009, supported by the State Studies Foundation). The data of quantitative surveys were processed by the SPSS program and then analyzed, while qualitative interviews were analyzed by the method of qualitative content analysis. The data leads to the presupposition that the Russians of the three biggest cities of Lithuania not only have conserved their national identity, but also have gained features of bicultural identity. They have multicultural competencies such as the knowledge of language and behavior, competences to act in the Lithuanian cultural context and also in the context of Russian culture. For Russian respondents Lithuania and Lithuanian culture in a broad sense are important and the tendency to identify with this culture is observed. More often it is tended to dissociate from the Lithuanian culture in a proper sense, it means from Lithuanian literature, art, customs, etc., but phenomena of adoption of Lithuanian culture can also be observed. So the cultural hybridity is characteristic of the respondents but does not create any dissatisfaction. The attitude towards the Lithuanian language is absolutely positive, the respondents claim to know the language and consider speaking Lithuanian as a very important fact for a successful integration into the Lithuanian society. They are proud of the Lithuanian language and they invite to protect it. To sum up, the knowledge of the Lithuanian language affects the changes of the respondents’ cultural identity and the bilingualism in Lithuania can be considered the stimulus (not necessarily a guarantee) of bicultural identity.

Abstract: “Man is the only being who needs education,” and that "Man can only become man by education" (see footnotes 1) ABSTRACT Since May of 1999, 46 European countries have been engaged in reconstructing their higher education systems to bring about a greater degree of “convergence,” i.e. a move toward common reference points and operating procedures to create a European Higher Education Area. Education has always played an important role in the development of Lithuania, with long and strong traditions as a country with highly educated scientists and cutting-edge research in various fields. In April 2009, the Seimas passed a new Law on Science and Studies, which provides for a major reform of higher education. In recent years there has been an increasing focus on the role universities play in the economy and impact they make in promoting innovation and raising international competitiveness. But until recently there has been a prescriptive view of university-business interactions with a narrow focus on technology transfer. Although technology transfer may be important, it is also necessary to focus on the more diverse and varied impacts of business-university knowledge exchange relations. Thus, I discuss changes in higher education that were implemented in Lithuania during the period of 1992-2012, i. e. Student baskets, notorious optimization of university network in Lithuania, the development of Lithuanian science valleys, etc. In my survey I rely upon an IHEP (Institute for Higher Education Policy) expert Cliff Adelman’s idea that the Bologna Process is an analogue to the macroeconomic theory of convergence, the ways in which nations move from different stages of development to a more-or-less common platform of performance. Macroeconomic historians have demonstrated time-and-again: nations that learn from other nations grow; those that do not learn do not. Ultimately, I arrive at a conclusion that reforms are essential and indispensable but answer the purpose only when higher quality in education is achieved.
Sustainability Assessment of Enterprises in Printing Industry

Environmental Research, Engineering and Management , 2011, DOI: 10.5755/j01.erem.58.4.674
Abstract: A sustainability concept having been applied from global to national, regional and other levels, enterprises are striving to be more sustainable in environmental and social issues. There is a growing need to have sustainability assessment and implementation tools. The most popular is the Global Reporting Initiative which gives recommendations for sustainability assessment of enterprises in different sectors. The guidelines are prepared for logistics and transportation, financial services, mining and metals, telecommunication and the others but not yet for printing industry. The objective of the paper is to assess sustainability of printing enterprises. To achieve it the following tasks have been determined: 1) adopt sustainability assessment methodology to printing industry; 2) apply sustainability assessment to chosen printing enterprises and 3) suggest the measures for sustainable development of printing enterprises. A sustainability assessment system is developed and applied which consists of qualitative and quantitative parts and composite index. Qualitative and quantitative parts are aggregated into one improved sustainability index. Enterprises are rated according to their achievements in sustainability from unsustainable through basic to progressive sustainable enterprises. The sustainability indices show that enterprises are at the basic level of sustainability. The main areas for improvement in printing enterprises are the following: use of more ecologic paper, paints and other resources; reduction of volatile organic compounds, use of renewable energy, etc. The case of an applied sustainability assessment system has shown that it can be adapted to enterprises of other sectors.
Combinatorial expression of Lef1, Lhx2, Lhx5, Lhx9, Lmo3, Lmo4, and Prox1 helps to identify comparable subdivisions in the developing hippocampal formation of mouse and chicken

Frontiers in Neuroanatomy , 2014, DOI: 10.3389/fnana.2014.00059
Abstract: We carried out a study of the expression patterns of seven developmental regulatory genes (Lef1, Lhx2, Lhx9, Lhx5, Lmo3, Lmo4, and Prox1), in combination with topological position, to identify the medial pallial derivatives, define its major subdivisions, and compare them between mouse and chicken. In both species, the medial pallium is defined as a pallial sector adjacent to the cortical hem and roof plate/choroid tela, showing moderate to strong ventricular zone expression of Lef1, Lhx2 and Lhx9, but not Lhx5. Based on this, the hippocampal formation (indusium griseum, dentate gyrus, Ammon’s horn fields, and subiculum), the medial entorhinal cortex, and part of the amygdalo-hippocampal transition area of mouse appeared to derive from the medial pallium. In the chicken, based on the same position and gene expression profile, we propose that the hippocampus (including the V-shaped area), the parahippocampal area (including its caudolateral part), the entorhinal cortex, and the amygdalo-hippocampal transition area are medial pallial derivatives. Moreover, the combinatorial expression of Lef1, Prox1, Lmo4 and Lmo3 allowed the identification of dentate gyrus/CA3-like, CA1/subicular-like, and medial entorhinal-like comparable sectors in mouse and chicken, and point to the existence of mostly conserved molecular networks involved in hippocampal complex development. Notably, while the mouse medial entorhinal cortex derives from the medial pallium (similarly to the hippocampal formation, both being involved in spatial navigation and spatial memory), the lateral entorhinal cortex (involved in processing non-spatial, contextual information) appears to derive from a distinct dorsolateral caudal pallial sector.
Angl kalbos vartojimas ir kod kaita Lietuvos televizij reklamose. Use of English and code-mixing in TV commercials in Lithuania

Kalbotyra , 2010,
Abstract: The paper focuses on the problem of language domain loss and sets out to examine the relationship between Lithuanian and English in TV commercials in Lithuania. The aim of the research is to determine the spread of English, together with the functions of English elements in the commercials and code-mixing. The data consists of a corpus of TV commercials recorded in 2003 and in 2009; in total, more than 1200 commercials, broadcasted during the most popular TV programs in one week each year. The analysis has shown that TV advertising as a domain of Lithuanian language use is not being lost and the situation hasn’t changed over the years. There are almost no only English commercials. Most of the commercials are a mix of Lithuanian and English codes, while English is mostly used in the product names. There are few English slogans and not much other information in English in the corpus. It turned out that there might be a special strategy for the localization of commercials in Lithuania. The oral form of the commercials is more Lithuanized than the written form. The slogans and the product names are presented in translation or explained in Lithuanian. At the same time, the written part of the commercials can have more information in English. Some English insertions most likely have a symbolic function to make an impression that the product advertised is valuable or modern. The use of English in commercials may have the purpose of communicating prestige and especially targeting at an audience with a high social status or young people.------ Straipsnyje keliama Lietuvoje iki iol labai ma ai tirta kalbos domen praradimo problema ir analizuojami angl ir lietuvi kalb santykiai televizijos reklamoje. Management , 2009,
Abstract: Transition is very unpredictable because of several value changesamong macro-social alterations which are reflected in public opinionvariability, based on the increment of dissatisfaction with new employmentpolicies, relationship with capital(ists) and occurrence of socialdiscrepancies. Because of lack of knowledge or interest in politicalparticipation people have mainly described transition as corruptionand political revenge; in public opinion, culprits for the new situationarose from corporate management and the political elite. Nevertheless, with political-economic changes and the era of transition, the cancer cells of socialism-planning macroeconomics are emphasized,as also other economic and value traps which society has never beenprepared for.
