Factores asociados a consumo de tabaco durante el último a?o en estudiantes de educación superior

Abstract: objective. to determine the risk factors associated to smoking in the last year of school in a chilean university population. methodology. analytical, observational, transversal cut study. stratified randomized sampling was conducted according to academic unit and year of career; the size of the sample was of 2045 students from four campuses of the catholic university of chile. the information was collected with a self-applied questionnaire. a descriptive, bivariate and logistic regression analysis was made. results. the average age was 20.4±1.6, 46% were males and 70.3% had a high socioeconomic status. 91% had started cigarette consumption before the age of 18. the smoking monthly prevalence was of 40.5%, 20% of the surveyed would be at risk of having diagnosis of smoking. a positive association was found between smoking during the last year of university and: age (p< 0.05), female sex (p< 0.001), socioeconomic status (p< 0.05) and parents drug consumption perception (p< 0.001). a negative association was found between smoking and religiosity (p< 0.001). conclusion. in the studied university group it was found that the smoking problem requires special attention due to its magnitude and association to risk factors as age, female gender, socioeconomic status and a low religiosity.

Abstract: this paper evaluates shelf availability of monograph titles requested at a university library. the evaluation has been carried out by an external group. goals, steps and evaluation criteria, as well as evaluation design and implementation are described in detail. the research has used two different techniques: simulation (with two variants) and users' interviews, according to iso 11620, b2.2.2 indicator ?required titles availability? (iso 11600 standard). survey results are analyzed and compared.

Abstract: summary in colombia the educational formation has been regulated by competitions and this context makes reference to the mobilization of knowledge and skills in diverse areas that are combined to solve problems and to produce new wisdom. the objective of this research was to identify the perception of the infirmary student, in front of the formation by competitions in the academic programs of the professional area and the existing correlation with the result obtained in the state qualification examinations (ecaes). a co relational and evaluative descriptive study, in which an instrument was applied that measured the perception of the student regarding its formation, the results of final notes of each of the academic programs denominated "infirmary care taking" and the results of the ecaes obtained by the students of the last academic year. the data analysis showed differences between the average perception of the students about the grades reached within the academic programs and the average obtained in the test of competitions designed by acofaen-icfes. the students consider to be prepared to face the labour world, although in the examination of valuation by competitions of the higher education, the average obtained did not correspond to the perceptive valuation of fulfilment. a direct proportional relation between the general average of the students and the points of ecaes was found. thus, students with high averages in the faculty also showed high points in the state qualification examination.

Abstract: during clinical practice the teaching nurse is doomed to act in situations that involve making ethical decisions in front of the patient and be responsible for the consequences of this decision. the objective of the research was to determine the more frequent implications in which the infirmary professional is involved in hospitals, while supervising the student practice in the city of bogotá. research on this topic is scars, taking into account that this subject becomes, every time, more and more important in the professional exercise. as a tool for data collecting, a semi-structured interview was designed and recordings of experiences by the participant professionals were made. the results determined that the implications most frequently faces by the teacher in the places of practice are of ethical type; no penal denunciation, before the court of ethics of infirmary, followed by a sanction or the dismissal, withdrawal of the professional card or indemnification of prejudices was presented. the situations confronted by students with the care subject generate experience in moral reasoning and in the importance of values for the taking of ethical decisions. the necessity to establish a continuous communication within the institutions, where the practice is realized, will allow a proper coordination of the attention of the care subject and a consensus in the decision making, when required by the situation.

Abstract: objetive. to describe and analyze the treatment of 3 patients with a spinal epidural abscess (sea). description. case 1 (male, 58 years old): with a history of left knee's septic arthritis, and a two-month history of lumbar pain, who refered a progresssive paraparesis. mri: d8-d10 discitis and sea. case 2 (female, 68 years old): with a history of previous percutaneous treatment; for lumbar pain was admitted with a septic shock, parestesias and pain in both legs. mri: l4-l5 discitis, sea and bilateral psoas abscess. case 3 (male, 56 years old): with a history of previous long-term steroid treatment for lumbar pain; was admitted with a septic shock and tetraparesis. mri: anterior cervicothoracolumbar sea. intervention. in both cases 1 and 2, laminectomy and drainage were performed. in the third case, the favorable outcome was due to antibiotic treatment. conclusion. surgery plus antibiotic treatment were the gold standard for patients who showed neurological deficit. for patients without neurological deficit and an extensive lesion along the spinal cord or an increased surgical risk, antibiotic treatment was suggested.

Abstract: Este trabajo informa los resultdos de una evaluación, realizada por un equipo externo, de la disponibilidad en el estante de las obras monográficas solicitadas por usuarios de una biblioteca universitaria. Se presentan los objetivos, etapas y criterios de la evaluación, así como también el dise o e implementación de la misma. Se investiga a través de la aplicación de dos técnicas: a) simulación -con dos variantes- y b) entrevistas a los usuarios, aplicándose el indicador de la norma ISO 11620, B 2.2.2. Disponibilidad de títulos solicitados . Se analiza la información relevada y se comparan los resultados obtenidos, reflexionando sobre los mismos. Abstract: Objetivo. Describir y analizar el tratamiento de tres pacientes con absceso epidural espinal (AEE). Descripción. Caso 1: varón de 58 a os, con antecedentes de artritis séptica de rodilla izquierda y dolor lumbar de 2 meses de evolución que presentó una paraparesia progresiva 48 horas antes de la consulta. IRM: espondilodiscitis D8-D10 y colección epidural. Caso 2: mujer de 68 a os, con antecedentes de tratamiento percutáneo por lumbalgia secundaria a canal estrecho; ingresó por shock séptico, presentando dolor y parestesias en miembros inferiores. IRM: espondilodiscitis L4-L5, colección epidural y abscesos de ambos psoas. Caso 3: varón de 56 a os, con antecedentes de tratamiento crónico con corticoides y AINES por lumbociatalgia; ingresó por shock séptico asociado a cuadriparesia. IRM: colección anterior cervicodorsolumbar epidural. Intervención. En los casos 1 y 2 se realizaron sendas laminectomías con evacuación de colección purulenta. En el caso 3, el tratamiento fue conservador (antibioticoterapia) con resolución de la colección. En los 3 casos se rescató un Staphylococcus aureus. El caso 1 evolucionó a la paraplejía y los casos 2 y 3 se recuperaron completamente. Conclusión. El AEE es una urgencia tanto neuroquirúrgica como infectológica. En los pacientes con déficit neurológico, la cirugía es el tratamiento de elección, sumado a la antibioticoterapia; mientras que en pacientes sin compromiso neurológico, de alto riesgo quirúrgico o con una extensa lesión a lo largo del canal espinal, el tratamiento conservador sería el indicado. Abstract: Durante la práctica clínica, la Enfermera Docente se ve abocada a actuar en situaciones que implican la toma de decisiones éticas frente al paciente y de responder por las consecuencias de la decisión. El objetivo de la investigación, fue determinar las implicaciones deontológicas más frecuentes en las que se ve involucrado el profesional de Enfermería, en el ejercicio de la docencia, al supervisar la práctica clínica de estudiantes, en la ciudad de Bogotá. Son escasas las investigaciones que se encuentran al respecto, si se tiene en cuenta que es un tema que cada vez cobra mayor importancia en la práctica profesional. Como instrumento de recolección, se dise ó una entrevista semiestructurada y grabaciones de experiencias relatadas por los profesionales participantes. Los resultados determinaron que las implicaciones, a las que con mayor frecuencia se enfrentan los docentes, son de tipo ético, no se presentó ninguna denuncia penal ante el tribunal de ética de Enfermería, en la que se hubiese impuesto como sanción la destitución, el retiro de la tarjeta profesional o la indemnización de perjuicios. Las situaciones que vive el estudiante con el Sujeto de Cuidado, le generan experiencia en el razonamiento moral y en la importancia de los valores, para la toma de decisiones éticas. Se evidencia la necesidad de establecer una comunicación contínua con las Instituciones en los escenarios de práctica, que permita coordinar la atención del Sujeto de Cuidado y un consenso en la toma de decisiones, cuando la situación lo requiera. Abstract: RESUMEN En Colombia la formación en la educación se ha reglamentado por competencias y es así que este texto hace referencia a la movilización de saberes y destrezas en diversas áreas que se combinan para resolver problemas y producir nuevos conocimientos. El objetivo fue identificar la percepción del estudiante de Enfermería frente a la formación por competencias, en los programas académicos del área profesional y la correlación existente con el resultado obtenido en los exámenes de calidad del estado (ECAES). Se realizó un estudio descriptivo correlacional y evaluativo en el que se aplicó un instrumento que midió la percepción del estudiante sobre su formación, los resultados de las notas finales de cada uno de los programas académicos de Cuidado de Enfermería y los resultados del ECAES obtenidos por los estudiantes de último a o. El análisis, arrojó una diferencia entre el promedio de percepción de los estudiantes sobre los logros alcanzados en los programas académicos y el promedio obtenido en la prueba de competencias, dise ada por ACOFAENICFES. Los estudiantes consideran estar preparados para enfrentar el mundo laboral, aunque en el examen de valoración, por competencias de la educación superior, el promedio no corresponde a la apreciación perceptiva de cumplimiento de logro. Se encontró una relación directamente proporcional entre el promedio general del estudiante y el puntaje de ECAES. Es así, como los estudiantes con altos promedios en la Facultad también mostraron altos puntajes en la prueba de estado. Abstract: We discovered a well established population of L. catesbeianus in Mendoza province, San Carlos department, Capiz locality (33°41'11"S, 68°59'09" W; elevation: 920 m) and other nearby localities at Tunuyán department. This record extends the distribution range of this species 270 km S-SE from Calingasta, San Juan, and 400km W-SW from Villa Dolores, Córdoba. The region is part of the Monte phytogeographic province, which is characterized by an arid climate with mean annual temperature of 17.7oC (mean annual minimum and maximum: -1.4 and 38.0oC, respectively) and mean annual rainfall of 331.2 mm, which occurs mainly in summer.
