Methodology for comparative analysis of sustainability in agroforestry systems
Lopes, Saulo Barbosa;Almeida, Jalcione;
Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20032003000100005
Abstract: the work analyzes the political/institutional links and technological formats of agroforestry systems in the caí and taquari river valleys of the brazilian state of rio grande do sul in an effort to determine a value for their ability to endure: their sustainability. sustainability indicators are created for the analysis of these systems. the indicator values will be used to create a sustainability index (si) for each studied agroforestry system and to identify each system?s sustainability pattern. the different agroforestry systems will also be classified according to their structural characteristics. analysis of the identified patterns and indexes will reveal the adequacy of the methodology employed and the consequence of each system?s institutional arrangement, technological format, and sustainability pattern. the agro forestry system that combines exotic forest species with watermelon and the system that combines native forest species with citrus fruit stand out as being most sustainable while, from an institutional perspective, those systems that were linked in an "associative" arrangement had the highest sustainability index values.

Publica??es feministas do CFEMEA: análise de conteúdo do Jornal Fêmea
Barbosa, Michelle Cristiane Lopes;
Revista Estudos Feministas , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-026X2004000300016
Abstract: the purpose of this study is to analyze the issues covered in jornal fêmea, a monthly newspaper published by cfemea - feminist center for studies and advisory services. for methodological reasons, the study only analyzes the editions published between 1992 and 2002, thus carefully examining a decade of content. it considers in what ways jornal fêmea tackles topics of interest for women and feminists in its various types of texts: editorials, feature reports, articles, interviews, and notifications. the aim is to assess what changed, in terms of subject matter, over this ten-year period. what are the demands of the women's and feminist movements in the early 21st century? more aptly, considering their primary goals and needs in the early 90s, what has been accomplished to date? what current challenges are important enough to merit coverage in the media? in general, it is clear that while new topics have arisen in recent years-such as budgetary issues-old topics still infuse debate and mobilization, and are echoed in small and large means of communication alike. the continued relevance of these issues stems from the fact that, in the 21st century, besides struggling to broaden women's rights, it is also necessary to guarantee the permanence of those already conquered. existing rights are now threatened by factors such as the growth of fundamentalist ideologies, liberalization of labor legislation, etc. these pressures are typical of an increasingly globalized and capitalist world.
FROM THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL CONFIGURATION OF THE PHILOSOPHY TO THE THOUGHT OF THE EVENT: BECOMING, CHILDHOOD AND EDUCATION
Rodrigo Barbosa Lopes
Poiésis , 2011,
Abstract: This article aims to propose an alternative to the humanistic-anthropological discourse of philosophical thought which prevailed in the late nineteenth century, and it still today extends its effects to the thought of philosophy about both the education and the theme of the subject and subjectivity in the educational process. This alternative is proposal in the form of a synthesis of the concept of “becoming”, thought by Deleuze and Guattari in Mille Plateaux, with the concept of childhood understood as a sign of the new, the statement, the difference and the creativity in thinking. It is proposed, thereby, to think the ethical and political dimension of the subjectivity and the modes of subjectivity from the concept of “becoming-child”, as a sign capable of putting the pedagogical relationship and the production of subjectivity that results from it at the intersection of intensity and pre-individual singularities that in the event opens us, and experience with they can create us.
Easy Bioinformatics Analysis (EBiAn): a package for manipulating and analysis of short biological sequences

Bioinformation , 2010,
Abstract: The work of biochemists and molecular biologists often is dependent or extremely favored by a preliminary computer analysis. Thus, the development of an efficient and friendly computational tool is very important. In this work, we developed a package of programs in Javascript language which can be used online or locally. The programs depend exclusively of Web browsers and are compatible with Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. With the EBiAn package it is can perform the main analysis and manipulation of DNA, RNA, proteins and peptides sequences. The programs can be freely accessed and adapted or modified to generate new programs.
Avalia??o da eficácia terapêutica da ivermectina sobre larvas de quarto estádio de Lagochilascaris minor em gatos infectados experimentalmente
Barbosa, Carlos Augusto Lopes;Campos, Dulcinéa Maria Barbosa;
Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86822001000400011
Abstract: in order to verify the action of ivermectin against fourth-stage larvae of lagochilascaris minor, thirty cats were divided into three groups (i, ii and iii). each animal was inoculated orally with 50 third-stage larvae. the cats from groups i and ii were treated with ivermectin (200/mg/kg/single dose/sc via) on fifth day after inoculation (dai). treatment evaluation was performed between 30 and 40 dai (group i) and between 180 to 190 dai (group ii) using parasite macroscopic and microscopic research at autopsy. the 10 cats from group iii were untreated (control group). the authors observed 100% drug efficacy, at all observation periods, by total interruption of parasite's biological cycle in each of the treated animals. all the control group developed lagochilascaris minor infection.

Barbosa, Irnak M.;Ferrante, Saulo M.R.;Mandarim-de-Lacerda, Carlos A.;
Jornal de Pediatria , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0021-75572001000400013
Abstract: objective: to experimentally reproduce, in rats, the findings corresponding to the histopathology of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (ihsp), using nitric oxide synthase (nos) inhibitor (l-name). methods: l-name was administered to pregnant rats (l-name group), from the 14th gestational day on in order to reproduce the model of nos inhibition in the production of ihsp. this group was then compared to control animals. after birth, all the animals in the l-name group were maintained under nos inhibition until the 42nd day of life, when they were sacrificed. the control animals, which did not receive any kind of drug, were also sacrificed on the 42nd day of life. the animals and their internal organs were analyzed and weighed. the pyloric region was technically prepared and observed through light microscopy. results: the l-name group presented lower body and intestinal weight and higher gastric weight than the control group. light microscopy revealed hypertrophy of the circular smooth muscle layer of the pyloric muscle in l-name animals. conclusions: this work reproduced an experimental model of an ihsp study, confirming the effect of nos blockade on the pyloric musculature. conclusions: this work reproduced an experimental model of an ihsp study, confirming the effect of nos blockade on the pyloricmusculature.
