Galls as a Disputed Resource for Female Parasitoid Wasps Contests  [PDF]
Denise Dalbosco DellAglio, Milton de Souza Mendon?a Jr.
Advances in Entomology (AE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ae.2015.33010
Abstract: We investigated how the parasitoid Torymus sp. (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) attacking galls of Schismatodiplosis lantanae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on Lantana camara (Verbenaceae) behaves in the presence of a conspecific female competitor in the patch. Presence of a competitor greatly changed resident exploitation behavior. Wasps alone spent more time in gall exploitation behaviors (walk-antennate and probe) and in post-oviposition behaviors (stationary and groom), and when intruders were present they spent more time walking. The attack strategy was through threatening: raising wings and pointing the antennae towards the opponent. Different from theoretical expectations, residents were not always the attacker. Number of galls in the patch and female wasp size did not affect contest outcomes, although gall exploitation time and time on leaf were significant factors for the probability of having attacks. Overall, the study highlights the fact that intruder interest in the host was the main cause of contests and also this is a unique report both in terms of the target species and the nature of the disputed resource, a gall-inducer inside a singular spatial unit, the gall.

Braga, Luiza Lima;Dell'Aglio, Débora Dalbosco;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2012000300009
Abstract: this study verified the frequency of the exposure to domestic and community violence, on 946 adolescents with ages ranging from 12 to 19 years old (m = 15.42; sd = 1.67), who were from different contexts: with their families (g1); young offenders who were deprived of freedom (g2); and adolescents living in shelters (g3). they completed the brazilian youth questionnaire. findings indicated that adolescents of g3 showed higher levels of exposure to domestic violence and adolescents of g2 were more exposed to community violence. furthermore, the females were the most frequent victims in all contexts. the importance of preventing the youth exposure to violence is highlighted, as well as promoting interventions with adolescents who live in shelters because this group seems to be the most vulnerable.
Estratégias de coping e estilo atribucional de crian?as em eventos estressantes
Dell'Aglio, Débora Dalbosco;Hutz, Cláudio Simon;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2002000100002
Abstract: this study investigated coping strategies, defined as cognitive and behavioral efforts to deal with stressful situations, and the attributional styles utilized by 8-10 year-old children. the children were interviewed and their responses led to the identification of 100 stressful events, the strategies they employed to deal with theses events, and their causal attributions for the events. the results indicated that the strategies children used more often to deal with conflict were to look for social support and aggressive actions. as an alternative strategy, the children indicated a preference for direct action. distraction was the main strategy to deal with emotions elicited by the event. direct action, avoidance, and acceptance strategies were more used in situations involving conflicts with adults, while aggressive actions and seeking social support were more frequent in situations involving peers. no significant differences were identified between coping strategies and attributional styles. the results of this study support the hypothesis that coping strategies are not dispositional and that they seem to be determined by the context of the event
Compreendendo as m?es de crian?as vítimas de abuso sexual: ciclos de violência
Santos, Samara Silva dos;Dell'Aglio, Débora Dalbosco;
Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas) , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-166X2008000400014
Abstract: the objective of this article is to discuss the characteristics of mothers of children who are victims of sexual abuse, covering aspects such as emotional reconciliation, multigenerational characteristics and maternal reactions to the disclosure. child sexual abuse is considered to be a public health problem and its consequences have been a focus of interest of many researchers. however, few studies have been devoted to exploring the maternal characteristics involved in this complex cycle of violence. in general, mothers of sexually abused children are not depicted as perpetrators of the abuse, but in some way they find themselves involved, either as victims of or witnesses to this situation. on the other hand, many factors influence the mothers' reactions when faced with the revelation of the abuse, such as the perceptions of the social support service and the mothers' personality traits, amongst others. research has demonstrated the continuity of violence from generation to generation, pointing to the need for longitudinal studies on child sexual abuse.
