Conducta sexual y anticonceptiva en estudiantes de medicina
Campo-Cabal,Gerardo; Becerra,Lina V; Cede?o,María C; Uribe,Giselle A; Villa,Lina M.; Vargas,Ana M.; Echandía,Carlos;
Revista Colombiana de Psiquiatría , 2006,
Abstract: introduction: previous research and data arising from the “universidad del valle” medical school health service suggest that students exhibit irresponsible sexual behavior. objective: this paper describes sexual behavior and contraceptive methods commonly used among first, third and last year students. results: students entering the program are frequently late adolescents, with a growing female proportion, coming from high and middle social and economic classes. although male students begin coital contacts earlier than females (p<0.001), in recent years this is tending to balance, showing no differences in the freshmen cohorts. both genders have similar sexual behavior, with a small percentage remaining virgin until internship. condom and oral contraceptives are favored as contraceptive methods. medical students exhibit a high degree of risk-taking behavior, therefore unwanted pregnancies, abortions and stds are frequent and become more prevalent in upper levels. reasons exposed to avoid the use of contraceptive methods seem invalid and irrelevant.

Abstract: The early stages of Alzheimer's disease are characterised by impaired synaptic plasticity and synapse loss. Here, we show that amyloid-β oligomers (AβOs) activate the c-Abl kinase in dendritic spines of cultured hippocampal neurons and that c-Abl kinase activity is required for AβOs-induced synaptic loss. We also show that the EphA4 receptor tyrosine kinase is upstream of c-Abl activation by AβOs. EphA4 tyrosine phosphorylation (activation) is increased in cultured neurons and synaptoneurosomes exposed to AβOs, and in Alzheimer-transgenic mice brain. We do not detect c-Abl activation in EphA4-knockout neurons exposed to AβOs. More interestingly, we demonstrate EphA4/c-Abl activation is a key-signalling event that mediates the synaptic damage induced by AβOs. According to this results, the EphA4 antagonistic peptide KYL and c-Abl inhibitor STI prevented i) dendritic spine reduction, ii) the blocking of LTP induction and iii) neuronal apoptosis caused by AβOs. Moreover, EphA4-/- neurons or sh-EphA4-transfected neurons showed reduced synaptotoxicity by AβOs. Our results are consistent with EphA4 being a novel receptor that mediates synaptic damage induced by AβOs. EphA4/c-Abl signalling could be a relevant pathway involved in the early cognitive decline observed in Alzheimer's disease patients.
DIAGNOSING THE MANAGEMENT STYLE IN TE SALES ACTIVITY

Lucr?ri ?tiin?ifice : Management Agricol , 2009,
Abstract: The management style has an essential significance within the sales management as the sales activity results depend on it to a smaller or larger extent. Its diagnosing involves three stages: Evaluating the sales strategy elaboration method, by taking into account the type of decisions, the relations between the decisional centres, the type of used planning and analysis tools and methods, the time horizon; Evaluating the sales strategic process, starting from the manner of approaching it; Evaluating the type of manager.
Analysis of the Constitutional and Legal Relations of the Romanian Ombudsman Institution with the other Public and Non-Governmental National Authorities
M?d?lina Cocosatu
Acta Universitatis Danubius : Administratio , 2012,
Abstract: Objectives: In the democratic states, the assertion and respect of the fundamental rights of the citizens represent an essential characteristic, both at the national, and at the international level. In this paper, we shall analyze the relations that are established with the Parliament, the executive power, the judicial power, the Constitutional Court and the non-governmental organizations. These relations are of collaboration, control or information, depending on the activity performed by the respective institution or structure. Prior work: I’ve tried to find and debate hermeneutical new regulations and doctrinal opinions in this domain very important for those who practice Administrative law and Constitutional law. Results: In European Union and Member States, the enforcement decisions of Ombudsman is viewed with great interest, being considered an important public authority. Value: We believe that the role of ombudsman is accentuated by the importance given to it by the public authorities, but also by the degree of the institution’s reception by the public opinion. In this sense, the relations between Ombudsman and the non-governmental organizations are of collaboration, focused, mainly, on two directions: in the field of preventing possible breaches of the citizens’ rights and liberties and in the field of the actual protection of the rights breached.
Model for the Analysis of the Company Performance
M?d?lina DUMBRAV?
Theoretical and Applied Economics , 2010,
Abstract: The analysis of the performance of a firm (company) has a determinant role in setting the strategy to follow and this is more necessary during the period of economic-financial crisis. In the following items, I have performed the analysis, based on the balance sheet data, for SC DELTA SRL, using a system of indicators that have relevance, and the interpretation of which allows to draw certain conclusions, depending on which the future development can be forecasted. I have tried to use a number of indicators, viewed as a system, which would define, in the end, a model for company performance analysis. The research focused on using the system of indicators on the data from the balance sheet of SC DELTA SRL.
Proinsulin C-peptide: Friend or foe in the development of diabetes-associated complications?
Lina Nordquist,M Johansson
Vascular Health and Risk Management , 2008,
Abstract: Lina Nordquist1, M Johansson21Department of Medical Cell Biology, Division of Integrative Physiology, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden; 2Department of Pathology, University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, USAAbstract: The proinsulin connecting peptide, C-peptide, is a cleavage product of insulin synthesis that is co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic β-cells following glucose stimulation. Recombinant insulin, used in the treatment of diabetes, lacks C-peptide and preclinical and clinical studies suggest that lack of C-peptide may exacerbate diabetes-associated complications. In accordance with this, several studies suggest that C-peptide has beneficial effects in a number of diabetes-associated complications. C-peptide has been shown to prevent diabetic neuropathy by improving endoneural blood flow, preventing neuronal apoptosis and by preventing axonal swelling. In the vascular system, C-peptide has been shown to prevent vascular dysfunction in diabetic rats, and to possess anti-proliferative effects on vascular smooth muscle cells, which may prevent atherosclerosis. However, C-peptide depositions have been found in arteriosclerotic lesions of patients with hyperinsulinemic diabetes and C-peptide has been shown to induce pro-inflammatory mediators, such as nuclear factor kappa B, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and cyclooxygenase-2, indicating that C-peptide treatment could be associated with side-effects that may accelerate the development of diabetes-associated complications. This review provides a brief summary of recent research in the field and discusses potential beneficial and detrimental effects of C-peptide supplementation. Keywords: C-peptide, proinsulin, diabetes, cardiovascular
THE IMPROVEMENT OF PROCESSES’ QUALITY IN ORGANISATIONS USING THE SIX SIGMA CONCEPT
M?D?LINA BRUTU
Annals of the University of Petrosani : Economics , 2010,
Abstract: Six Sigma is a problem-solving methodology. In fact, it’s the most effective problem-solving methodology available for improving business and organizational performance. Bill Smith from Motorola first developed in 1986 the specific elements of Six Sigma. At the beginning, it was a set of practices which have been used in the manufacturing processes in order to eliminate the defects but, as time passed, the concept has been extended so as to be used in other types of businesses, too. The 6th Sigma level corresponds to a 99,9997% performance, respectively 3,4 defects per a million of occasions. A Six Sigma process is a redesigned business process and has three basic elements: Process Improvement; Designing/redesigning the process; The Process Management.
Romanian Advertising between Specificity and Globalization. A Comparative Analysis of Local and International Brands
M?d?lina Moraru
Journal of Knowledge Management, Economics and Information Technology , 2012,
Abstract: Advertising today has conquered national boundaries, reaching consumers everywhere; however, local commercials retain their cultural background, combining global and local features. This is the new “glocalization” phenomenon, or the specificity of globalization. During the past two decades, Romanian advertising developed spectacularly, making up for the time it was forbidden. Life-styles, consumer insight, economy and market dynamics changed the relationship between global and local advertising. Today, national advertising promotes surviving pre-Revolution brands, new, post-1990 brands, and international brands adapted to the local market. This chapter analyzes the local and global features of Romanian TV commercials for national and international brands according to the following criteria: positioning, visual/verbal identity, social/cultural background.
