Research on Interpreting Pedagogy in Multimedia Environment  [PDF]

Abstract: In the present multimedia environment, the traditional teacher-lecturing or information-delivering teaching mode is still frequently adopted, even though the flipped teaching mode has drawn increasing attention from the scholars and teachers. Against this backdrop, a research on the adoption of interpreting pedagogy has been done to see the students’ preference over the traditional and the flipped teaching mode and explore the possible reasons behind this preference. The research findings indicate that the participants favor the flipped interpreting teaching mode more than the traditional lecturing mode, mainly because this can save them more in-class time for interactive interpreting activities and for more tutor’s instructions. Therefore, a mode for flipped interpreting teaching is suggested for further experiment, covering three modules, namely, pre-class online learning, in-class instruction and practice and after-class tasks.
On Translation of Verses in Sanyan from the Perspective of Translation as Adaptation and Selection  [PDF]

Abstract: Verse, frequently seen in Chinese literary works, is a significant component of huaben novels. As a representative masterpiece of vernacular short stories, Sanyan is no exception, and many rhythmical verses have been used and become a prominent feature. The present paper studies the translation of verses in Sanyan by Shuhui Yang and Yunqin Yang from the perspective of Translation as Adaptation and Selection. The study finds that the Yang have made active adaptation to the textual and non-textual eco-environment, which makes it possible for this translational activity to take place. The two translators have also achieved three-dimensional transformation by making adaptive selections. Since the translational eco-environment is dynamic, the strategies or skills adopted by the translators are flexible. All in all, the Yang, while guaranteeing the semantic loyalty to the source verse, tries to reproduce the form and deliver the cultures by adding endnotes so as to realize the communicative purpose.

Abstract:

Single Web server would become a bottleneck that influences the availability and stability of Web service. Ten years ago, what had been proposed is to add Web servers for resolving this problem—Web Server Cluster. In recent years, the concept of cloud computing has got rapid development, and is becoming the future development trend of the IT industry. One of the characteristics of cloud computing is putting lots of computing resources together to provide users with a unified service. In this paper, we have proposed a new Cloud-Based Web Server Cluster Solution, based on the existing cloud computing model—Twitter Storm. It involves a new way to handle the web request from client and some other new features compared to the traditional Web Server Cluster. Combining with cloud computing, it would be the new trend of Web Server Cluster, and its feasibility is described in the paper too.

A minimal generalized time-bandwidth product-based coarse-to-fine strategy is proposed with one novel ideas highlighted: adopting a coarse-to-fine strategy to speed up the searching process. The simulation results on synthetic and real signals show the validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:
“Ji Chun Tai” is a collection of Huaben novels written by dissatisfied literati in Zhongjiang of Sichuan Province during the Guangxu Period of the Qing dynasty. It contains a large number of Sichuan Opera elements, which are mainly reflected in its structure and language. The structure of the 40 Huaben novels in “Ji Chun Tai” is divided into five parts, namely, the title, the beginning poem, the forewords, the main body and the ending, which is similar to the structure of the Sichuan Opera—opening words, the spoken parts, the libretto and the exit poetry. The language of “Ji Chun Tai” has many features of Sichuan Opera such as the use of Sichuan dialects, the singing of rhyme and libretto and the popularization of language.

Abstract:
Sichuan-Shaanxi Old Revolutionary Base Area has characteristics of “old districts, mountainous areas, border areas, and ethnic regions”. Constrained by many factors such as geographical environment, resources, funds, technology, talents, etc., its economic and social development is seriously affected. Many problems still exist including low-level and low-quality urbanization development, unreasonable structure of the urban system, low-level inclusive development, severe environment damage and lack of driving forces for further development. This paper first thoroughly analyzes the problems and development conditions for the urbanization of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Old Revolutionary Base Area and then puts forward the following countermeasures and suggestions to establish a unified coordination and cooperation platform, to speed up the process of regional integration, to improve planning and build a rational urbanization system, to deepen reforms and promote system innovation, to take measures to resolve capital shortages.

Adiabatic State Conversion and Pulse Transmission in Optomechanical Systems

Abstract: Optomechanical systems with strong coupling can be a powerful medium for quantum state engineering. Here, we show that quantum state conversion between cavity modes with different wavelengths can be realized with high fidelity by adiabatically varying the effective optomechanical couplings. The fidelity for the conversion of gaussian states is derived by solving the Langevin equation in the adiabatic limit. We also show that photon pulses can be transmitted between input-output channels with different wavelengths via the effective optomechanical couplings and the output pulse shape can also be manipulated.
Optoelectromechanical transducer: reversible conversion between microwave and optical photons

Abstract: Quantum states encoded in microwave photons or qubits can be effectively manipulated, whereas optical photons can be coherently transferred via optical fibre and waveguide. The reversible conversion of quantum states between microwave and optical photons will hence enable the distribution of quantum information over long distance and significantly improve the scalability of hybrid quantum systems. Owning to technological advances, mechanical resonators couple to quantum devices in distinctly different spectral range with tunable coupling, and can serve as a powerful interface to connect those devices. In this review, we summarize recent theory and experimental progress in the coherent conversion between microwave and optical fields via optoelectromechanical transducers. The challenges and perspectives in achieving single-photon-level quantum state conversion will also be discussed.
Robust Photon Entanglement via Quantum Interference in Optomechanical Interfaces

Abstract: Entanglement is often the key element in quantum information protocols. Here, we present schemes to generate robust photon entanglement in optomechanical interfaces via quantum interference. The schemes explore the excitation of the Bogoliubov dark mode and the destructive quantum interference between the bright modes of the interface, similar to electromagnetically induced transparency, to eliminate leading-order effects of the mechanical noise. Both continuous-variable and discrete-state entanglements that are robust against the mechanical noise can be achieved.
