Improve the Evaluation of Translation Fluency by Using Entropy of Matched Sub-segments

Abstract: The widely-used automatic evaluation metrics cannot adequately reflect the fluency of the translations. The n-gram-based metrics, like BLEU, limit the maximum length of matched fragments to n and cannot catch the matched fragments longer than n, so they can only reflect the fluency indirectly. METEOR, which is not limited by n-gram, uses the number of matched chunks but it does not consider the length of each chunk. In this paper, we propose an entropy-based method, which can sufficiently reflect the fluency of translations through the distribution of matched words. This method can easily combine with the widely-used automatic evaluation metrics to improve the evaluation of fluency. Experiments show that the correlations of BLEU and METEOR are improved on sentence level after combining with the entropy-based method on WMT 2010 and WMT 2012.
An Automatic Machine Translation Evaluation Metric Based on Dependency Parsing Model

Abstract: Most of the syntax-based metrics obtain the similarity by comparing the sub-structures extracted from the trees of hypothesis and reference. These sub-structures are defined by human and can't express all the information in the trees because of the limited length of sub-structures. In addition, the overlapped parts between these sub-structures are computed repeatedly. To avoid these problems, we propose a novel automatic evaluation metric based on dependency parsing model, with no need to define sub-structures by human. First, we train a dependency parsing model by the reference dependency tree. Then we generate the hypothesis dependency tree and the corresponding probability by the dependency parsing model. The quality of the hypothesis can be judged by this probability. In order to obtain the lexicon similarity, we also introduce the unigram F-score to the new metric. Experiment results show that the new metric gets the state-of-the-art performance on system level, and is comparable with METEOR on sentence level.
Novel rate distortion optimization strategy based on perceptual properties of texture and luminance

Abstract: RDO (rate-distortion optimization) plays an important role in video coding systems and has a great effect on coding efficiency.The most widely used RDO strategy uses MSE or other similar metrics for distortion modeling,which is not a good metric for subjective evaluation.In order to improve the perceptual quality,a novel perceptual distortion model is firstly proposed which takes the perceptual properties of texture and luminance into consideration.Based on the perceptual distortion model,a TL-RDO (texture and luminance based RDO) strategy is proposed which adjusts the Lagrangian multiplier dynamically according to visual perception.The simulation result shows that TL-RDO gets higher coding efficiency than the famous QP-RDO.Moreover,it has low computational consumption compared to other perceptual RDO strategies,which is suitable for real-time systems.
Fusing audio-words with visual features for adult video detection

Abstract: Multi-modality based adult video detection is an effective approach for filtering pornographic information.However,existing methods lack accurate representation methods of audio semantics.Therefore,a novel method is presented in this paper to fuse audio-words with visual features for adult video detection.First,we propose a periodicity-based segmentation algorithm of units of energy envelope (EE).Audio streams are divided into sequences of EE.Second,audio semantics representation method based on EE and BoW (Bag-of-Words) is presented to describe the features of the EE as the occurrence probabilities of audio-words.Integrated weighting methods are used to fuse the detection results of audio-words and visual features.Furthermore,we propose a periodicity-based decision algorithm to judge adult videos to cooperate with the preceding periodicity-based segmentation algorithm.Therefore,we make full use of the periodicity.Our experiments show that our approach remarkably improves the detection performance compared with the method based on visual features.The true positive rate achieves 94.44% while the false positive rate is 9.76%.

Abstract: Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a very powerful technique for materials characteriza-tion, providing information relating to morphology, composition, and crystal structure. Selected area diffraction patterns (SADPs) are crystallographic data that can be obtained using a TEM in-strument. Conventional identification through SADP/TEM is tricky and tedious, thereby increasing the difficulty of phase identification. To establish a procedure for phase identification of known and unknown phases, in this study we examined two samples: one, a known phase, was Si with <100> alignment; the other, unknown, was the TixOy phase at the 96.4Au-3Ni-0.6Ti interlayer/ yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) interface of a steel/96.4Au-3Ni-0.6Ti interlayer/YSZ joint. The procedures for phase identification of the known and unknown phases are described herein using a series of SADPs and energy dispersive spectrometry within TEM that would be useful for general researchers.
Research on the Impact of Supply Chain Integration of Startups: Service Supply Chain Perspective  [PDF]

As the potential power of social economic development, the importance of startups has attracted more and more attention from academia. The service supply chain, led by the service integrator, can help the startups to improve the performance of the enterprise, achieve better supply chain integration, and go through their “infancy” period successfully. However, the research about the factors that influence the integration of service supply chain and how these factors affect the supply chain integration of startups remains to be explored. Based on the practical problems and theoretical research status above, this study constructs a theoretical hypothesis model of the relationship between interaction, supply chain finance and supply chain integration, and we take the survey data of 65 startups in Pearl River Delta of China as samples and use hierarchical regression analysis to carry out hypothesis testing. The result shows that, from the perspective of startups, interaction has a positive impact on supplier integration, internal integration and customer integration, and supply chain finance has a positive impact on internal integration. The main significance of this study is to make up for the vacancy on this part of the academic community in the service supply chain, and help provide some reference basis for start-up enterprises’ supply chain integration.

Abstract: Dam construction is an important engineering measure in dealing with the relationship between water and human being. However, with dam construction, some disadvantages to the river basin may be caused, including flow flux of downstream changed, flooded area reduced, river species and other organisms changed and substance sedimentation. Furthermore, it brings some diseases to human being and human residential areas reduced too. Based on the basic principles of ecohydralic engineering, some countermeasures to minimize the negative effects on rivers were put forward. They are reservoir ecological regulation, ecohydraulic engineering construction and comprehensive water pollution treatment.
