Thermal Performance Analysis of the Battery Thermal Management Using Phase Change Material  [PDF]

Abstract:
In this paper, the phase change material passive thermal management system for the lithium ion battery module is established, in which the mock-up battery is used to replace the real battery for the simulation. The temperature rise characteristics of the battery and the melting process of the phase change material in the passive thermal management system are determined through the numerical simulation. The effect of the filling amount of the phase change material on battery thermal performance is also analyzed.

Abstract: Using high-resolution ultraviolet spectra obtained with the HST/Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) and the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer, we study the metallicity, kinematics, and distance of the gaseous "Outer Arm" (OA) and the high-velocity clouds (HVCs) in the outer Galaxy. We detect the OA in a variety of absorption lines toward two QSOs, H1821+643 and HS0624+6907. We search for OA absorption toward eight Galactic stars and detect it in one case, which constrains the OA Galactocentric radius to 9
Cervical sagittal alignment variations and proximal junctional kyphosis after posterior fusion of AIS

Abstract: Purpose:To determine the changes in cervical sagittal alignment(CSA), measure the incidence of proximal junctional kyphosis(PJK) and identify the correlation between these two parameters following segmental posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion. Materials and methods:From May 2008 to September 2011, 35 patients after posterior instrumentation and fusion to the upper thoracic vertebra due to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in our department were eligible for this study. Pre and post operative and the last follow-up anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the entire spine were reviewed. The following radiographic parameters were measured: cervical sagittal alignment, proximal junctional measurement(PJM) of the cobb angle, thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis. In this study, positive values were used to denote kyphosis, while the negative values were used to indicate lordosis. The correlations between cervical sagittal alignment and proximal junctional measurement were also identified. Results: Preoperatively, the average CSA was 2.84 (range,-30.2- 35.6), and 48.6% was kyphosis (17/35); after surgery, the average CSA was 1.78 , and 51.4% was kyphosis(18/35) ; at the last follow up, the average CSA was 1.86, and 54.3% was kyphosis(19/35). Preoperatively, the average PJM was 3.87°; while postoperatively, the average PJM was 8.01°, and the incidence rate of proximal junctional kyphosis was 17.1% (6/35); at the last follow up, the average PJM was 9.70°, and 28.6% was PJK (10/35). significant correlation between the CSA and PJK was found postoperatively(r=-0.302), and at the last follow up (r=-0.564). Conclusion:Cervical kyphosis is frequent in AIS, and the change after posterior spinal fusion surgery is limited. The incidence rate of proximal junctional kyphosis is high, meanwhile there is a significant correlation between cervical sagittal alignment and proximal junctional kyphosis.

Abstract: In research [1], the authors investigate the dynamic behaviors of a discrete ecological system. The period-double bifurcations and chaos are found in the system. But no strategy is proposed to control the chaos. It is well known that chaos control is the first step of utilizing chaos. In this paper, a controller is designed to stabilize the chaotic orbits and enable them to be an ideal target one. After that, numerical simulations are presented to show the correctness of theoretical analysis.

Abstract:

Qingdao lies in the south of Shandong Peninsula, on the coast of the Yellow Sea. As a coastal and hilly city, Qingdaohas topographic features consisting of twisted coastlines dotted with capes and bays. The beginning of the 20th century witnessed the construction of western-style streets and buildings in Qingdao when it was occupied by Germany. Liyuan is the name of the residential buildings for Chinese labors during the German occupation. Liyuan retain the spatial composition of Chinese quadrangles (Siheyuan), and at the same time feature western technology. Therefore they have both Chinese and western flavors. In addition, they are the earliest urban residential complexes in China. The space system of Liyuan blocks has played an important role in the lifestyle and social network of the local residents. Liyuans have been home to Qingdao people from generation to generation, which makes it a spiritual symbol. Owing to its history and characteristics, Liyuan architecture has been designated as one of the historical and cultural protected areas in Qingdao, and has contributed to the formation of a distinctive geographical landscape. Since the 1980s, urban renewal and redevelopment in Qingdao have greatly impacted upon the protection of Liyuans, which has aroused concern from various communities.This research on Liyuans shows the geographic location of all the Liyuan blocks, classifies them in terms of courtyard composition and architectural features, and analyzes the relationship between their spatial composition and the residents’ life-style.

Banana Peel Carbon that Containing Functional Groups Applied to the Selective Adsorption of Au(III) from Waste Printed Circuit Boards  [PDF]

Abstract:  

This paper reports a kind of banana peel carbon (BPC) containing -OH, -NH2 functional groups which prepared through controlling carbonization temperature and its application on the selective adsorption of gold from waste printed circuit boards (PCBs). The adsorption of BPC for Au(III) reached equilibrium in 30 min and the adsorption of Au(III) was favorable at pH 2.5. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm showed the maximum adsorption capacity of 801.7 mg/g for Au(III). The results displayed that BPC had a strong selectivity for Au(III) and a negligible affinity to base metal ions, such as Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II). The BPC adsorbent, which absorbed gold, can be recovered completely by HCl-thiourea solution.

Dynamics of a Hyperparasitic System with Prolonged Diapause for Host*  [PDF]

Abstract:

A hyperparasitic system with prolonged diapause for host is investigated. It is assumed that host prolonged diapause occur at larval stage, and parasitoid attack is limited to egg stage before the initiation of host diapause. Such behavior has been reported for many ichneumons. Hyperparasite only attacks the parasitoids that parasitize the hosts. Hyperparasitic system is often used in biological control. The existence and stability of nonnegative fixed points are explored. Numerical simulations are carried out to explore the global dynamics of the system, which demonstrate appropriate prolonged diapause rate and appropriate intrinsic growth rate can stabilize the system. The reasons are explained according to the ecological perspective. Furthermore, many other complexities which include quasi-periodicity, period-doubling bifurcations leading to chaos, chaotic attractor, intermittent and supertransients are observed.

Provincial Differences of Consumption-based Carbon Emissions in Northeastern China

Abstract: Carbon emission is the main cause of global warming and has great impacts on biophysical environment and human existence. At present, carbon emission quotas and responsibility division of carbon emission have attracted immense attention from all countries in the world. Compared to production-based carbon emissions accounting system, consumption-based carbon emissions accounting system has several advantages, for example, it can better solve the problem of carbon leakage in international trade and transport and can be more equitable. As a country with strong trading development as well as enormous carbon emissions, China has complex trade relations among domestic provinces. Therefore, it is fair and objective to analyze carbon emissions of each province from the perspective of consumption. This paper has elaborated the accounting methods of domestic inter-provincial carbon emissions based on summarizing the recent advances in consumption-based carbon emissions in international trade and analyzed the spatial variability of consumption-based carbon emissions in the three northeastern provinces. The study shows that there are obvious differences of carbon emissions among the three provinces, and consumption-based carbon emissions are far lower than production-based carbon emissions; carbon emissions embodied in exported and transferred goods account for 46% ~53% of the total production-based carbon emissions; the high proportion of exports and transferred goods should be responsible for the large amounts of carbon emissions of the three northeastern provinces. The paper has also put forward some suggestions to reduce carbon emissions, for example, the three northeastern provinces should be encouraged to conduct trade of low-carbon products and strengthen the low-carbon technology. This paper could contribute to the current academic conversation on issues of relationship between global warming and climate change, and specifically will provide reference for the carbon emissions accounting and energy saving made by provincial administrative units.
Reconstruction of new holographic scalar field models of dark energy in Brans-Dicke Universe

Abstract: Motivated by the work [K. Karami, J. Fehri, {{\it Phys. Lett. B}} {\bf 684}, 61 (2010)] and [A. Sheykhi, {{\it Phys. Lett. B}} {\bf 681}, 205 (2009)], we generalize their work to the new holographic dark energy model with $\rho_D=\frac{3\phi^2}{4\omega}(\mu H^2+\nu\dot{H})$ in the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology. Concretely, we study the correspondence between the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence, dilaton scalar field and Chaplygin gas model with the new holographic dark energy model in the non-flat Brans-Dicke universe. Furthermore, we reconstruct the potentials and dynamics for these models. By analysis we can show that for new holographic quintessence and Chaplygin gas models, if the related parameters to the potentials satisfy some constraints, the accelerated expansion can be achieved in Brans-Dicke cosmology. Especially the counterparts of fields and potentials in general relativity can describe accelerated expansion of the universe. It is worth stressing that not only can we give some new results in the framework of Brans-Dicke cosmology, but also the previous results of the new holographic dark energy in Einstein gravity can be included as special cases given by us.

This involves the three-component reaction of β-naphthol, aromatic aldehydes and 2-aminobenzothiazole in the presence of a catalytic amount of trichloroisocyanuric acid under solvent-free conditions.
