Adaptability of Polymer-Containing Sewage Corrosion Inhibitor  [PDF]

The polymer content in the produced water from Tuoliu Station is about 20 mg/L. Cationic imidazoline-type corrosion inhibitor is used to corrosion control of sewage. The corrosion inhibitor can react with the negatively charged materials such as anionic polymer and suspended substance by adsorption and merging to form complex aggregates, so that the suspended solids content increases, resulting in suspended solids content of exported sewage has been high. So a new type of non-ionic corrosion inhibitor has been developed and field trials have been performed. The results show that non-ionic corrosion inhibitor can effectively reduce the suspended solids content of wastewater while ensuring the corrosion rate of wastewater.

Abstract: Investigating the geometric structures of the distribution manifolds is a basic task in information geometry. However, by so far, most works are on the distribution manifolds of exponential family. In this paper, we investigate two non-exponential distribution manifolds —the Weibull distribution manifold and the generalized exponential distribution manifold. Then we obtain their geometric structures.

Experiments and simulations demonstrate that an SOA-based ring cavity can operate as a tunable laser, wavelength- swept laser or Fourier-domain-mode-locking laser according to the relation between the roundtrip frequency and the sweeping frequency of the filter.

Application of ATOVS Radiance-Bias Correction to Typhoon Track Prediction with Ensemble Kalman Filter Data Assimilation

Abstract: In this paper, firstly, the bias between observed radiances from the Advanced TIROS-N Operational Vertical Sounder (ATOVS) and those simulated from a model first-guess are corrected. After bias correction, the observed minus calculated (O--B) radiances of most channels were reduced closer to zero, with peak values in each channel shifted towards zero, and the distribution of O--B closer to a Gaussian distribution than without bias correction. Secondly, ATOVS radiance data with and without bias correction are assimilated directly with an Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) data assimilation system, which are then adopted as the initial fields in the forecast model T106L19 to simulate Typhoon Prapiroon (2006) during the period 2--4 August 2006. The prediction results show that the assimilation of ATOVS radiance data with bias correction has a significant and positive impact upon the prediction of the typhoon's track and intensity, although the results are not perfect.

The effect of health and nutrition education intervention on women's postpartum beliefs and practices: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: The study design was a randomized controlled trial conducted in both urban and rural area of Hubei between August 2003 and June 2004. A total of 302 women who attended the antenatal clinic during the third trimester with an uncomplicated pregnancy were recruited. Women randomized to the education intervention group in both urban and rural area received two two-hour prenatal education sessions and four postpartum counseling visits. Control group women received usual health care during pregnancy and postpartum period. Women were followed up until 42 days postpartum. Outcome measures were nutrition and health knowledge, dietary behavior, health behavior and health problems during the postpartum period.Women in the intervention groups exhibited significantly greater improvement in overall dietary behaviors such as consumption of fruits, vegetables, soybean and soybean products as well as nutrition and health knowledge than those in the control groups. Significantly more women in the intervention groups give up the traditional behavior taboos. The incidence of constipation, leg cramp or joint pain and prolonged lochia rubra was significantly lower in the intervention groups as compared with the control groups.The study shows that health and nutrition education intervention enable the women take away some of the unhealthy traditional postpartum practices and decrease the prevalence of postpartum health problems. Abstract: A cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted in the selected urban, suburban and rural areas in the province of Hubei from 1 March to 30 May 2003. A total of 2100 women who had given birth to full-term singleton infants in the past two years were selected as the participants. Data regarding postpartum practices and potentially related factors were collected through questionnaire by trained investigators.During the puerperium, 18% of the participants never ate vegetables, 78.8% never ate fruit and 75.7% never drank milk. Behaviour taboos such as no bathing, no hair washing or teeth brushing were still popular among the participants. About half of the women didn't get out of the bed two days after giving birth. The average time they stayed in bed during this period was 18.0 h. One third of them didn't have any outdoor activities in that time periods. The educational background of both women and their spouses, location of their residence, family income, postnatal visit, nutrition and health care educational courses were found to be the influencing factors of women's postpartum practices.Traditional postpartum dietary and health behaviours were still popular among women in Hubei. Identifying the factors associated with traditional postpartum practices is critical to develop better targeting health education programs. Abstract: The defects in an as-quenched CuZnAlMnNi shape memory alloy were systemically observed by transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the dislocation loops in fine martensite plates generated during quenching extend along the direction of width or length, and form the stacking faults along certain angles with the plate boundaries or approximately parallel to the boundaries.
MicroRNA-449a Is Downregulated in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Inhibits Migration and Invasion by Targeting c-Met

Abstract: MicroRNA-449a is expressed at a low level in several tumors and cancer cell lines, and induces G1 arrest, apoptosis, and senescence. To identify the function of miR-449a in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), we discussed the potential relevance of miR-449a to clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in NSCLC. We also investigated the impact of miR-449a on migration and invasion in NSCLC cells. The expression of miR-449a in NSCLC tissues and cell lines was detected using RT-qPCR. In vitro, gain-of-function, loss-of-function experiments, and fluorescence assays were performed to identify the potential target of miR-449a and the function of miR-449a in NSCLC cells. MiR-449a was downregulated in both NSCLC tissues and cell lines. Moreover, a low expression level of miR-449a appeared to be correlated with lymph node metastasis and poor survival. In vitro, miR-449 regulated cell migration and invasion in NSCLC cells as a potential tumor suppressor, at least in part by targeting c-Met. Furthermore, reciprocal expression of miR-449a and c-Met was shown in NSCLC tissue samples. This study indicates that miR-449a might be associated with NSCLC progression, and suggests a crucial role for miR-449a in NSCLC.
First Excursion Probabilities of Non-Linear Dynamical Systems by Importance Sampling

Abstract: This paper suggests a procedure to estimate first excursion probabilities for non-linear dynamical systems subjected to Gaussian excitation. The approach is based on the mean up-crossing rate and importance sampling method. Firstly, by using of Poisson assumption and Rice formula, the equivalent linear system is carried out. The linearization principle is that non-linear and linear systems have the same up-crossing rate for a specified threshold. Secondly, an importance sampling technique is used in order to estimate excursion probabilities for the equivalent linear system. The variance of the failure probability estimates, the number of samples and the computational time are reduced significantly compared with direct Monte Carlo simulations.
