Abstract: this paper discusses the use of contracts as the prevailing coordination mechanism in is innovation processes in which an external provider is appointed. drawing from a theoretical framework founded on systems theory, structuration theory and neo-institutionalism, this paper argues that is innovations take place in a relatively weak institutional context, which accounts for the generalised preference for contracts over other coordination mechanisms (i.e. trust) as a means of governing interorganizational exchange. based on secondary data, two constituent elements of the institutional context of is innovations are analysed, namely the institutional aspects of the it industry and the legal system. our argument has both academic and practical implications. academic implications emphasize the importance of acknowledging the institutional dimension of contracts and trust. regarding practice, the need for a better understanding of the role of contracts is suggested.
El modelo actual de ciudad fronteriza mexicana. Urbanismos yuxtapuestos y herméticos

Abstract: Diversos modelos urbanísticos confluyen en la frontera México-Estados Unidos. El modelo fronterizo tiende a configurarse y diferenciarse como un híbrido cultural complejo a partir de los dos modelos nacionales. Partiendo de la hipótesis de que estas ciudades están marcadas por el efecto de frontera, exploramos los rasgos que advierten la posible emergencia de este modelo peculiar. La abrupta separación territorial jurídica es permeable a los flujos socioeconómicos y aún demográficos, pero también a nuevas formas de control disciplinario sobre el territorio expresadas en la proliferación de barreras físicas en el interior del tejido urbano. El proyecto de ciudad en construcción privilegia del lado mexicano el urbanismo defensivo, que abordamos en el entorno construido como recurso de identidad. Los nuevos consumos de espacio físico en la ciudad enfatizan el aspecto lúdico de los innumerables segmentos materiales que la integran, emergiendo cada uno a la manera de atractivo consumible autónomo. El escenario resultante tiende entonces a constituirse en su totalidad con bienes adquiribles, donde los promotores inmobiliarios ofertan la vivienda –el espacio de consumo por excelencia- validos de técnicas de marketing inductoras del encuentro feliz del residente con el hábitat acorde a los más caros valores de su identidad, y por lo mismo, vueltos imprescindibles. El espacio ha de consumirse tras la cualificación material, el tratamiento simbólico y el acotamiento parcelario derivado de capacidades adquisitivas y expectativas de estilo de vida, una identidad prefabricada.
EFECTO DEL CAMPO MAGNéTICO SOBRE LA GERMINACIóN DE LA LEUCAENA LEUCOCEPHALA

Abstract: Se trataron semillas de Leucaena leucocephala (Lam), exponiéndolas a campos magnéticos de 125 mT y otras a 250 mT durante (10, 30 y 60) minutos, cada tratamiento con cuatro repeticiones cada 24 horas, se estudió el número de semillas germinadas, la longitud de la raíz y porcentaje de nitrógeno en la plántula. Las medidas se efectuaron a los 16 días de la siembra y estas se dan en función de los campos magnéticos y los tiempos de exposición. Se observan variaciones de la longitud de la raíz, aumento en la cantidad de nitrógeno y de proteína, así como incremento en el número total de semillas germinadas. Presentándose relación de los resultados con el tipo de tratamiento realizado.
Study of the Effect of Magnetic Stimulation of Leucaena Leucocephala (Lam.) of Wit Seeds

Abstract: The results of third phase of experiments of seeds magnetic stimulation of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) of Wit are presented; work aimed to improving physical methodologies technically feasible, and which can be extrapolated to recovery of wild plant species with potential use. Factorial experiments were performed using levels of magnetic flux density (B) of 30; 62,5; 125; 200 y 250 mT, exposure time between 0,5 y 60 minutes, number of magnetic expositions 1 and 4 times, and time between each of these, 24 hours and 7 days. Proving that in some doses the magnetic field generates a positive influence on Leucana plant development, affecting mainly root length, leaf mass and nitrogen percentage. Results show that B has a greater influence than exposure time in seed pretreatment for this species. The better responses were given to 30 mT, and it is detected that the action of magnetic stimulation on this specie presents an accumulative behavior.
The vanadium isotopic constitution of petroleum asphaltenes: La Luna Formation (Venezuela)

Abstract: High resolution mass spectrometry indicates that the isotopic abundance of 50vanadium (V) of the Late Cretaceous La Luna petroleum asphaltenes and related source kerogen of marine origin (both highly enriched with V >> 2000 ppm) is higher by about 3,5 % than that of an inorganic vanadium source (VOSO4 > 5H2O, Merck). It is proposed that the difference in the 50V/51V values between the La Luna source kerogen/the associated petroleum asphaltenes and the inorganic source can be best ascribed to the biological processing of seawater V. The fact that the isotopic compositions of V vary over a very narrow range (2.46-2.50) suggest an essentially same (or similar) and fixed bilogical source of V.
H Index of scientific Nursing journals according to Google Scholar Metrics (2007-2011)

Abstract: The aim of this report is to present a ranking of Nursing journals covered in Google Scholar Metrics (GSM), a Google product launched in 2012 to assess the impact of scientific journals from citation counts this receive on Google Scholar. Google has chosen to include only those journals that have published at least 100 papers and have at least one citation in a period of five years (2007-2011). Journal rankings are sorted by languages (showing the 100 papers with the greatest impact). This tool allows to sort by subject areas and disciplines, but only in the case of journals in English. In this case, it only shows the 20 journals with the highest h index. This option is not available for journals in the other nine languages present in Google (Chinese, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese, Dutch and Italian). Google Scholar Metrics doesnt currently allow to group and sort all journals belonging to a scientific discipline. In the case of Nursing, in the ten listings displayed by GSM we can only locate 34 journals. Therefore, in an attempt to overcome this limitation, we have used the diversity of search procedures allowed by GSM to identify the greatest number of scientific journals of Nursing with h index calculated by this bibliometric tool. Bibliographic searches were conducted between 10th and 30th May 2013. The result is a ranking of 337 nursing journals sorted by the same h index, and mean as discriminating value. Journals are also grouped by quartiles.

Abstract: Today computer graphics is used in many aspects, especially to make animation, advertisement and game. We hope this technology can produce realistic pictures which same quality with photo. Metode to get the realistic 3D image is ray tracing. In this journal, make a software which can produce realistic 3D image, especially for reflective and transparent object. Reflective object will modeled can reflect another object surrounding it. And transparent object will modeled can produce caustic effect, that's rays which refract in one area. So that area will appear brighter than area surround it. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Dewasa ini grafika komputer semakin banyak digunakan di berbagai bidang terutama untuk pembuatan film animasi, iklan dan pembuatan game. Diharapkan teknologi grafika komputer mampu menghasilkan gambar-gambar realistik yang kualitasnya sama dengan kualitas foto. Salah satu metode yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan gambar 3D yang realistik tersebut adalah metode ray tracing. Dalam penelitian ini dibuat perangkat lunak yang mampu menghasilkan gambar-gambar 3D yang realistik terutama untuk benda-benda yang mengkilap dan benda-benda transparan. Benda mengkilap yang dimodelkan bisa memantulkan bayangan benda lain yang berada di sekitarnya. Benda transparan yang dimodelkan adalah benda transparan yang menghasilkan efek kaustik, yaitu pembiasan sinar dari sumber cahaya yang mengumpul di suatu daerah sehingga pada daerah tersebut akan tampak lebih terang daripada daerah sekitarnya. Modeling Agricultural Change through Logistic Regression and Cellular Automata: A Case Study on Shifting Cultivation  [PDF]

Abstract:

Agricultural expansion is one of the prime driving forces of global land cover change. Despite the increasing attention to the factors that cause it, the patterns and processes associated with indigenous cultivation systems are not well understood. This study analyzes agricultural change associated with subsistence-based indigenous production systems in the lower Pastaza River Basin in the Ecuadorian Amazon through a spatially explicit dynamic model. The model integrates multiple logistic regression and cellular automata to simulate agricultural expansion at a resolution consistent with small scale agriculture and deal with inherently spatial processes. Data on land use and cultivation practices were collected through remote sensing and field visits, and processed within a geographic information system framework. Results show that the probability of an area of becoming agriculture increases with population pressure, in the vicinity of existing cultivation plots, and proximity to the center of human settlements. The positive association between proximity to cultivation areas and the probability of the presence of agriculture clearly shows the spillover effect and spatial inertia carried by shifting cultivation practices. The model depicts an ideal shifting cultivation system, with a complete cropping-fallow-cropping cycle that shows how agricultural areas expand and contract across space and over time. The model produced relatively accurate spatial outputs, as shown by the results of a spatial comparison between the simulated landscapes and the actual one. The study helped understand local landscape dynamics associated with shifting cultivation systems and their implications for land management.

Neurotrophin/Trk receptor signaling mediates C/EBPα, -β and NeuroD recruitment to immediate-early gene promoters in neuronal cells and requires C/EBPs to induce immediate-early gene transcription

Abstract: We have identified the immediate-early (IE) genes Fos, Egr1 and Egr2 as transcriptional targets of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/TrkB signaling in primary cortical neurons, and show that the Fos serum response element area responds to BDNF/TrkB in a manner dependent on a combined C/EBP-Ebox element. The Egr1 and Egr2 promoters contain homologous regulatory elements. We found that C/EBPα/β and NeuroD formed complexes in vitro and in vivo, and were recruited to all three homologous promoter regions. C/EBPα and NeuroD co-operatively activated the Fos promoter in transfection assays. Genetic depletion of Trk receptors led to impaired recruitment of C/EBPs and NeuroD in vivo, and elimination of Cebpa and Cebpb alleles reduced BDNF induction of Fos, Egr1 and Egr2 in primary neurons. Finally, defective differentiation of cortical dendrites, as measured by MAP2 staining, was observed in both compound Cebp and Ntrk knockout mice.We here identify three IE genes as targets for BDNF/TrkB signaling, show that C/EBPα and -β are recruited along with NeuroD to target promoters, and that C/EBPs are essential mediators of Trk signaling in cortical neurons. We show also that C/EBPs and Trks are required for cortical dendrite differentiation, consistent with Trks regulating dendritic differentiation via a C/EBP-dependent mechanism. Finally, this study indicates that BDNF induction of IE genes important for neuronal function depends on transcription factors (C/EBP, NeuroD) up-regulated during neuronal development, thereby coupling the functional competence of the neuronal cells to their differentiation.The influence of growth factors, as well as transcription factors, on cell fate determination and differentiation is well established. Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) affects neuronal cortical development by signaling through its cognate tyrosine kinase receptor, TrkB. Together they regulate many cellular functions during and after the development of the nervous system

Intellectual life is not a thing apart from the humanizing and moralizing influences that moral virtues provide. Saint Thomas’s teachings about moral virtues suggest how essential he considers them for a flourishing speculative life. He makes all this very clear in the Second Part of the Summa Theologiae. The potential parts of fortitude which have a crucial role in intellectual work are patience, perseverance and magnanimity. In this article I show how these potential virtues act in speculative life.
