A novel method for blood vessel detection from retinal images

Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel method to segment retinal blood vessels to overcome the variations in contrast of large and thin vessels. This method uses adaptive local thresholding to produce a binary image then extract large connected components as large vessels. The residual fragments in the binary image including some thin vessel segments (or pixels), are classified by Support Vector Machine (SVM). The tracking growth is applied to the thin vessel segments to form the whole vascular network.The proposed algorithm is tested on DRIVE database, and the average sensitivity is over 77% while the average accuracy reaches 93.2%.In this paper, we distinguish large vessels by adaptive local thresholding for their good contrast. Then identify some thin vessel segments with bad contrast by SVM, which can be lengthened by tracking. This proposed method can avoid heavy computation and manual intervention.The retina is the only location where blood vessels can be directly captured non-invasively in vivo. Over the past decade, the retinal image analysis has been widely used in medical community for diagnosing and monitoring the progression of diseases [1,2]. And retinal blood vessels are important structures in retinal images. The information obtained from the examination of retinal blood vessels offers many useful parameters for the diagnosis or evaluation of ocular or systemic diseases. For example, the retinal blood vessel has shown some morphological changes such as diameter, length, branching angles or tortuosity for vascular or nonvascular pathology, such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases [3]. Blood vessels are also used as landmarks for registration of retinal images of a same patient gathered from different sources. Sometimes, retinal blood vessel must be excluded for easy detection of pathological lesions like exudates or microaneurysms. Abstract: Attracted by gold rush, many immigrants from China began to enter the U.S to seek fortune in 1848. However, they received miserable treatment and experienced deep prejudices from native-born American whites. The anti- Chinese sentiment among the whites reached climax when the Chinese Exclusion Act was enacted in 1882. Further Chinese immigration was thus barred. In order to shun from outside hostility, the Chinese retreated to inner-city regions and developed the Chinatowns. Like most immigrants, Chinese-American parents also faced the problem of educating their children and helping them to adjust to the new culture while still keeping them clinging to their traditional Chinese culture. But the young generation was different from their parental generation. They wanted to get integrated into the host society and were more inclined to have their voices heard. Global Dynamics of a Predator-Prey Model with Stage Structure and Delayed Predator Response

Abstract: A Holling type II predator-prey model with time delay and stage structure for the predator is investigated. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of each of feasible equilibria of the system is discussed. The existence of Hopf bifurcations at the coexistence equilibrium is established. By means of the persistence theory on infinite dimensional systems, it is proven that the system is permanent if the coexistence equilibrium exists. By using Lyapunov functionals and LaSalle’s invariance principle, it is shown that the predator-extinction equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable when the coexistence equilibrium is not feasible, and the sufficient conditions are obtained for the global stability of the coexistence equilibrium. 1. Introduction In population dynamics, the functional response of predator to prey density refers to the change in the density of prey attacked per unit time per predator as the prey density changes [1]. Based on experiments, Holling [2] suggested three different kinds of functional responses for different kinds of species to model the phenomena of predation, which made the standard Lotka-Volterra system more realistic. The most popular functional response used in the modelling of predator-prey systems is Holling type II with which takes into account the time a predator uses in handing the prey being captured. There has been a large body of work about predator-prey systems with Holling type II functional responses, and many good results have been obtained (see, e.g., [1, 3, 4]). Time delays of one type or another have been incorporated into biological models by many researchers. We refer to the monographs of Gopalsamy [5], Kuang [6], and Wangersky and Cunningham [7] on delayed predator-prey systems. In these research works, it is shown that a time delay could cause a stable equilibrium to become unstable and cause the population to fluctuate. Hence, delay differential equations exhibit more complex dynamics than ordinary differential equations. Time delay due to gestation is a common example, since generally the consumption of prey by the predator throughout its past history decides the present birth rate of the predator. Because of the development of Embedded Web Server such status is being changed. The remote monitor and control mode based on Embedded Web Server provides complete exact real-time information for managers, and makes it possible to make a decision in real time. In the paper, the design and implements of Embedded Web Server are presented and the key realization technology of it is described in detail. EWS (Embedded Web Server) will effectively lower system operating cost and improve maintaining efficiency, which has wide application prospect and popularization value in industrial control systems.

Abstract: Drainage gas recovery technology is the main method of gas recovery process in gas field, which has domestically and internationally been the main gas recovery processing measure in later stage of gas field production. In this context, produced water or condensate liquid will not be carried out of pit shaft by natural gas with the gradual drop of gas reservoir pressure and natural gas flow velocity, thus they will remain in pit shaft and form the so-called “gas well gathered liquid”. This fluid severely affects natural gas output and leads to the decline of oil field economic benefits, thus drainage gas recovery measure must be taken to increase gas well or even gas field output. It becomes the primary problem to be solved to select the best drainage gas recovery measure which can maximize gas field benefits and optimize gas well safety.

In the paper, the homoclinic (hateroclinic) breather limit method (HBLM) is applied to seek rogue wave solution of the Benjamin Ono equation. We find that the rational breather wave solution is just a rogue wave solution. This result shows that rogue wave can come from the extreme behavior of the breather solitary wave for (1+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave fields.

Abstract: The earth-atmosphere system is an energy equilibrium system, including cooling and heating systems. The conception of “atmospheric heat engine (AH Engine)” was put forward very early in the research of heating processes. However, in the field of research on atmosphere cooling, there is no corresponding academic conception. Here we show how the atmosphere cooling engine (AC Engine) is discovered. The results show that there is a huge cooling center between the subtropical zone of northern hemispheres and the subtropical zone of southern hemispheres in the stratosphere, which is the result of AH engine. In the lower latitudes of the upper troposphere, there is an atmospheric heating belt that reaches directly to the surface of the ocean. In the global ocean surface, there are five heating centers and one cooling center, which are the results of Ocean Stabilization Machine (OSM). Therefore, there are 23 short-term global climate warming trends and 23 short-term global climate cooling trends of Global Mean Lan/Oceans Temperature Anomalies Index, which are actually the result of fluctuations of AH engine, AC engine and OSM, and how the mechanism works by AH engine, AC engine and OSM is also explained.
