FEM and EFG Quasi-Static Explicit Buckling Analysis for Thin-Walled Members  [PDF]

Abstract: The quasi-static explicit finite element method (FEM) and element free Galerkin (EFG) method are applied to trace the post-buckling equilibrium path of thin-walled members in this paper. The factors that primarily control the explicit buckling solutions, such as the computation time, loading function and dynamic relaxation, are investigated and suggested for the buckling analysis of thin-walled members. Three examples of different buckling modes, namely snap-through, overall and local buckling, are studied based on the implicit FEM, quasi-static explicit FEM and EFG method via the commercial software LS-DYNA. The convergence rate and accuracy of the explicit methods are compared with the conventional implicit arc-length method. It is drawn that EFG quasi-static explicit buckling analysis presents the same accurate results as implicit finite element solution, but is without convergence problem and of less-consumption of computing time than FEM.

Abstract:

Soy sauce by a high salt liquid-state fermentation process was prepared using the organic soy beans as raw material. Beidahuang organic soy bean was selected among different raw materials. Here, the best technique was determined. Firstly, the organic soy beans were soaked for 7 hours under 121℃, steamed for 15 min and mixed with the fried wheat (5:5, w/w). After inoculated with Aspergillus oryzae 3.042 (0.3%, w/w) and cultured for 36 hours, the koji was obtained. When the brine (2:1, w/w) was added, fermentation started. At the end of the fermentation, isoflavone content of organic soy sauce was 0.22 mg· g-1 higher than those in the non- organic soy beans. In addition, compared to the control there were a higher unsaturated fatty acids content, the linoleic acid content in crude fat of 51.61% and γ-linolenic acid content in crude fat of 0.55%.

Ganglioside GM3 modulates conformation of reconstituted ca2+-ATPase

Abstract: Using steady-state fluorescence and nanosecond time-resolved fluorescence techniques, the ca2+ ATPase conformational changes induced by ganglioside GM3 were studied with different quenchers. The results showed that GM3 could significantly increase the lifetime of intrinsic fluorescence of Ca2+-ATPase reconstituted into proteoliposomes, and could also weaken the intrinsic fluorescence quenching by KI or hypocrellin B, HB. Furthermore, by using quenching kinetic analysis of the time-resolved fluorescence, in the presence of GM3, the quenching constant (K3V) and quenching efficiency were significantly lowered. The obtained results suggest that the oligosaccharide chain and the ceramide moieties of the GM3 molecule could interact with its counterparts of the ca2+-ATPase respectively, thus change the conformation of the hydrophobic domain of the enzyme, making the tryptophan residues in different regions shift towards the hydrophilic-hydrophobic interface, and hence shorten the distance between the hydrophilic and the hydrophobic domains, making the enzyme with a more compact form exhibit higher enzyme activity. The theme of the story is thought to be gender politics by some and to be the contradiction between marriage bondages and celibacy freedom by others. From the perspective of literary interpreter’s cultural context, the author suggests a third interpretation of the story’s theme: it is a caricature of an ungrateful and unfaithful wife.

Abstract: Based on the basic physical meaning of error and error variety , this paper analyzes the logical relationship between them and uses Universal Combinatorial Operation Model in Universal Logic to describe it. Accordingly, a flexible logic control method is put forward to realize effective control on multivariable nonlinear system. In order to implement fusion control with artificial neural network, this paper proposes a new neuron model of Zero-level Universal Combinatorial Operation in Universal Logic. And the artificial neural network of flexible logic control model is implemented based on the proposed neuron model. Finally, stability control, anti-interference control of double inverted-pendulum system, and free walking of cart pendulum system on a level track are realized, showing experimentally the feasibility and validity of this method. 1. Introduction In recent years, fuzzy control has made a rapid development, and it has found a considerable number of successful industrial applications [1–3]. But fuzzy control has two shortcomings in the process of controlling some practical complex systems. One is that the number of control rules increases exponentially with the increase of the number of inputs, and the other one is that the precision of control system is low [4]. To reduce the dimension of control model, hierarchical fuzzy logic control divides the collection of control rules into several collections based on different functions [5, 6]. Compound control combines fuzzy control and other relatively mature control methods to realize the effective control [7], such as Fuzzy-PID Compound Control [8], fuzzy predication control [9], adaptive fuzzy control [10], and so forth. The basic idea of adaptive fuzzy control based on variable universe [11, 12] is to keep the form of rules and varies universe of discourse according to the control error. Though a great deal of research has been done to improve the performance of fuzzy control, most of these methods are based on the basic idea that fuzzy controller is a piecewise approximator. However, to date, there has been relatively little research conducted on the internal relations among input variables of fuzzy controllers. Based on analysis of the logical relationship between the system’s error and error variety , this paper indicates that the relationship is just universal combinatorial relation in Universal Logic [13], and the simple Universal Combinatorial Operation can be used instead of complex fuzzy rule-based reasoning process. Abstract: A novel and simple route for synthesizing nanocrystalline ceramic powders in molten salt was introduced in the paper. Titanium carbide (TiC) was prepared via the reaction of metallic magnesium powders with titanium dioxide (TiO2), carbon source and molten salt in an autoclave at 650°C. Carbon source (oxalic acid and citric acid) in this paper was stable, low toxic and cheap. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated that the products were cubic TiC. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that the samples consisted of particles with an average size of 200 nm and 100 nm in diameter, respectively. Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) analysis of the samples suggested the products contained carbon and titanium elements. The product was also studied by the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It had good thermal stability and oxidation resistance below 350°C in air.
Combined 18F-FDG PET/CT with Enhanced CT Perform One-Stop Shop Imaging for Assessing Pancreatic Carcinoma  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the role of PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT in diagnosing and staging for pancreatic diseases and optimize the use of enhanced PET/CT as one-stop imaging modality. Methods: Fifty-six patients who presented with suspected pancreatic carcinoma underwent whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT and enhanced CT imaging. Images were interpreted and compared with the histopathology findings. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of enhanced CT, PET/CT and combined PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT diagnosis were analyzed. The vascular invasion and distant metastases of pancreatic lesions on different imaging modality were analyzed and compared. Results: Among the fifty-six patients evaluated for primary tumor, thirty-nine patients had malignant diseases and seventeen had benign lesions. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of enhanced CT were 87.5%, 75% and 83.9%, those of non-enhanced PET/CT were 89.7%, 88.2% and 89.2%, of PET/CT with enhanced CT were 100%, 94.1% and 98.2%. Combined PET/CT with enhanced CT had highest sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in diagnosing pancreatic carcinoma. Average SUVmax of malignant lesions was 6.72 ± 3.84, compared with 2.56 ± 1.22 for patients with benign disease (P < 0.01). Combined PET/CT with enhanced CT can help to make accurate staging especially in assessing metastases and vascular invasion. Seven patients deemed surgical candidates were changed to non-surgical treatment. SUVmax didn’t correlate with distant metastases and survival time (Pearson = –0.243, P = 0.136). Distant metastases correlate with survival time (Pearson = –0.447, P = 0.004). Conclusion: PET/CT with contrast enhanced CT is of greater value in the diagnosis of pancreatic lesions as well as preoperative staging especially in assessing vascular invasion and distant metastasis. It is feasible to perform one-stop shop imaging by combining PET/CT with enhanced CT, supplying more accurate assessment before operation and help to select optimal therapeutic plan.

Abstract: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is an epithetlial cell derived cytokine which has been reported to be a master regulator in T helper (Th) 2 driven inflammation. Through acting on dentritic cells (DCs), granulocytes, natural killer T cells or directly on CD4+ T cells, TSLP plays significant roles in the pathogenesis of atopic diseases consisting of the triad of asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis. Recently mounting evidence demonstrated that cancer-related inflammation play decisive roles at different stages of tumor development, including initiation, promotion, malignant conversion, invasion, and metastasis. As a crucial regulator of Th2 driven inflammation, the involvement of TSLP in carcinogenesis have attracted researchers’ attention. However, the mechanisms of TSLP’s involvement in carcinogenesis are still largely unknown. In this review we first outline the roles of TSLP involved in allergic inflammation and then we further focus on the recent findings on TSLP’s tumor promoting activities hoping to provide hints on elucidation of the TSLP implication in carcinogenesis in future studies.
Entanglement perturbation theory for the elementary excitation in one dimension

Abstract: The entanglement perturbation theory is developed to calculate the excitation spectrum in one dimension. Applied to the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, it reproduces the des Cloiseaux-Pearson Bethe ansatz result. As for spin-1, the spin-triplet magnon spectrum has been determined for the first time for the entire Brillouin zone, including the Haldane gap at $k=\pi$.
Entanglement Perturbation Theory for Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Spin Chains

Abstract: A recently developed numerical method, entanglement perturbation theory (EPT), is used to study the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains with z-axis anisotropy $\lambda$ and magnetic field B. To demonstrate the accuracy, we first apply EPT to the isotropic spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, and find that EPT successfully reproduces the exact Bethe Ansatz results for the ground state energy, the local magnetization, and the spin correlation functions (Bethe ansatz result is available for the first 7 lattice separations). In particular, EPT confirms for the first time the asymptotic behavior of the spin correlation functions predicted by the conformal field theory, which realizes only for lattice separations larger than 1000. Next, turning on the z-axis anisotropy and the magnetic field, the 2-spin and 4-spin correlation functions are calculated, and the results are compared with those obtained by Bosonization and density matrix renormalization group methods. Finally, for the spin-1 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, the ground state phase diagram in $\lambda$ space is determined with help of the Roomany-Wyld RG finite-size-scaling. The results are in good agreement with those obtained by the level-spectroscopy method.
