Abstract:

The rapid development of surface sensitive biosensor technologies requires optimum control of surface modification to provide reliable and reproducible results. With the aim to assemble a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-based protein biosensor, we focus our attention on sulfide receptor and its integration with the surface of the electrode. Here, we present different surface modification processing time to allow sulfide molecules to be immobilized to gold coated sensor for QCM sensing. The optimum surface modification processing time is also obtained by bovine serum albumin (BSA) binding measurement.

The Degradation Mechanism of Toxic Atractyloside in Herbal Medicines by Decoction

Abstract: Atractyloside (ATR) is found in many Asteraceae plants that are commonly used as medicinal herbs in China and other eastern Asian countries. ATR binds specifically to the adenine nucleotide translocator in the inner mitochondrial membrane and competitively inhibits ADP and ATP transport. The toxicity of ATR in medical herbs can be reduced by hydrothermal processing, but the mechanisms of ATR degradation are not well understood. In this study, GC-MS coupled with SPE and TMS derivatisation was used to detect ATR levels in traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Our results suggest that ATR molecules were disrupted by decomposition, hydrolysis and saponification after heating with water (decoction) for a long period of time. Hydrothermal processing could decompose the endogenous toxic compounds and also facilitate the detoxification of raw materials used in the Chinese medicine industry.

The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 2.81 (9)°. There is an intramolecular O—H...N hydrogen bond and intermolecular C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds.
Surveillance on secular trends of incidence and mortality for device–associated infection in the intensive care unit setting at a tertiary medical center in Taiwan, 2000–2008: A retrospective observational study

Abstract: Background Device–associated infection (DAI) plays an important part in nosocomial infection. Active surveillance and infection control are needed to disclose the specific situation in each hospital and to cope with this problem effectively. We examined the rates of DAI by antimicrobial-resistant pathogens, and 30–day and in–hospital mortality in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods Prospective surveillance was conducted in a mixed medical and surgical ICU at a major teaching hospital from 2000 through 2008. Trend analysis was performed and logistic regression was used to assess prognostic factors of mortality. Results The overall rate of DAIs was 3.03 episodes per 1000 device–days. The most common DAI type was catheter–associated urinary tract infection (3.76 per 1000 urinary catheter–days). There was a decrease in DAI rates in 2005 and rates of ventilator–associated pneumonia (VAP, 3.18 per 1000 ventilator–days) have remained low since then (p < 0.001). The crude rates of 30–day (33.6%) and in–hospital (52.3%) mortality, as well as infection by antibiotic-resistant VAP pathogens also decreased. The most common antimicrobial-resistant pathogens were methicillin–resistant Staphylococcus aureus (94.9%) and imipenem–resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (p < 0.001), which also increased at the most rapid rate. The rate of antimicrobial resistance among Enterobacteriaceae also increased significantly (p < 0.05). After controlling for potentially confounding factors, the DAI was an independent prognostic factor for both 30–day mortality (OR 2.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.99–3.17, p = 0.001) and in–hospital mortality (OR 3.61, 95% CI 2.10–3.25, p < 0.001). Conclusions The decrease in the rate of DAI and infection by resistant bacteria on the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome can be attributed to active infection control and improved adherence after 2003.

Abstract: With the seedlings of 19 pumpkin cultivars as test materials, this paper studied the variations of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Na+/K+, Na+/Ca2+, SN+, K+ and SNa+, ca2+ in their shoots and roots under the stress of 300 mmol NaCl x L(-1). The results showed that after an 8-day exposure to 300 mmol NaCl x L(-1), the Na+ content in the seedlings increased significantly while the K+ content decreased, resulting in the brokenness of ion balance. The root Na+ content, shoot Na+/K+ and Na+/Ca2+ ratios, and SNa+, K+ and SNa+, Ca2+ of Cucurbita moschata (Q1) were significantly higher than those of C. maxima (H2) and C. ficifolia (H3). The variation tendency of these parameters of different pumpkin cultivars' seedlings were nearly consistent with the salt injury index of the seedlings under NaCl stress, which further proved that the strong salt-tolerance of Q1 was related to the lower values of shoot Na+/K+, Na+/Ca2+, SNa+, K+ and SNa+, Ca2+, and the high contents of K+ and Ca2+, while the salt-sensitivity of H2 and H3 was related to the higher values of shoot Na+/K+, Na+/Ca2+, SNa+, K+ and SNa+, Ca2+, and low contents of K+ and Ca2+ under NaCl stress.

Abstract: Computer Algebra System (CAS) is a vital backbone in the field of symbolic computation and automated reasoning. There are many excellent CASs, which can provide good interface and quick computation for researchers. However, they are only designed to work on some special purposes, i.e., polynomial operations or calculation of Groebner basis, which lead to inefficient collaboration. A hybrid high performance model of computer algebra system (HHPCAS) was outlined. HHPCAS provided high performance by expanding the kernel library in CAS, using external calling and integrating the parallel library and cluster management software. Each job was submitted to a queue and scheduled by its ticket and slot value, which denoted the priority of job. In HHPCAS, several examples were tested by implementing an algorithm named parallel successive difference substitution. The experimental result shows that HHPCAS is effective for complex problem in symbolic computation and automated reasoning.
High-dose daptomycin and fosfomycin treatment of a patient with endocarditis caused by daptomycin-nonsusceptible Staphylococcus aureus: Case report

Abstract: We describe the emergence of DNS S. aureus. in a patient with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device -related endocarditis who was priorily treated with daptomycin. Metastatic dissemination as osteomyelitis further complicated the management of endocarditis. The dilemma was successfully managed by surgical removal of the ICD device and combination antimicrobial therapy with high-dose daptomycin and fosfomycin.Surgical removal of intracardiac devices remains an important adjunctive measure in the treatment of endocarditis. Our case suggests that combination therapy is more favorable than single-agent therapy for infections caused by DNS S. aureus.Infective endocarditis is a clinically significant disease with mortality ranging from 16% to 25% [1,2], and Staphylococcus aureus is reported as the most common pathogen, accounting for 31.4% of cases in developing countries [3]. In addition to methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), the emergence of vancomycin-resistant S. aureus also became a major problem after the first report in Japan in 1997 [4].Daptomycin is a 13-aminoacid compound derived from fermentation of Streptomyces roseosporus and is a new treatment option for S. aureus endocarditis, including vancomycin-resistant S. aureus [5,6]. The once daily dosing of daptomycin 6 mg/kg approved by the USA Food and Drug administration showed non-inferiority to the standard therapy for treating S. aureus bacteremia and endocarditis [7]. However, increased incidence of daptomycin-nonsusceptible (DNS) S. aureus was reported recently. Mutations in the mprF and yycFG genes, related to membrane fluidity changes or fatty acid biosynthesis, were identified recently as possible contributors to daptomycin nonsusceptibility [5,8]. Abstract: Objective: Little is known about the prescription pattern of psychotropic drugs for patients with schizophrenia in Pakistan. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristic features of psychotropic drug prescriptions for patients with schizophrenia in Pakistan. Methods: Three centers in Pakistan participated in a large scale collaborative study known as Research on Asian Prescription Pattern (REAP). The 2016 REAP survey included centers from 15 countries in Asia and used a unified research protocol. The design of the study was quantitative and of descriptive epidemiology. Analysis was made on the data collected from three centers i.e., Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. The data collected in Pakistan were compared with those from other Asian countries. The details of REAP were presented on the homepage of REAP (http://www.REAP.Asia). Results: From Pakistan, 298 patients were included. Patients with schizophrenia in Pakistan received higher rate of antipsychotic polypharmacy and a higher rate of co-prescription of mood stabilizers and anxiolytics when compared with participants from other South Asian countries (India and Bangladesh). Conclusion: The main findings of the study were that a majority of the patients were prescribed antipsychotic polypharmacy drugs in Pakistan. Insufficient training on the use of psychotropic drugs and a lack of treatment guideline are considered to be the major contributing factors. Further education and training on the proper use of psychotropic drugs are recommended to psychiatrists in Pakistan. The guidelines on pharmacotherapy for patients with schizophrenia should also be developed and promoted in Pakistan.

Abstract: The Junggar basin suffered multiple stage-times tectonic movements successively in Hercynian epoch,Indo-chinese epoch,Yanshan epoch and Himalayan epoch since late Paleozic era,stretching,pressing and cutting etc,tectonic actions happened by turns,multiple gyre tecnotic evolution resulted in the structure assemblages with various patterns and be activated for long time,which caused numerous faults with different scale and folds with various styles to be formed.In particular,Under the control of the evolutions of Tianshan orogenic zone and its adjacent area,various basin-styles and structure distortion in multiple stage-times were piled up,abundance of faults and complex structure were produced accordingly in the Forland thrust belt in southern Junggar basin.Here are complexities of structure features of the Foreland thrust belt in southern Junggar basin be pointed out.Because of the effect of compression deformation and thrusting intensely in late Tertiary era,there were provided with complex and changeable Cenozoic thrusting and pressing structures and buried preceding thrust-wedge,step reverse thrust and all kinds of folds related to fault in turn from south to north,these characteritics displays "classified some segments from west to east,classified some rows form south to north".The power from the rise of orogenic belt needs to conquer different obstructs while it be released,which leads to these structure put up similar deformation feature but quite a few difference between the eastern segment,middle segment and western segment in the thrust fault zone.

Abstract: 数学辅助学习平台一直是数学教育和计算机领域的研究热点。传统设计方法在教学互动、智能教育和界面友好性等环节存在若干制约因素。集成领先的AJAX思想和成熟的自动推理算法,提出新的数学Web服务系统设计方法,辅以MathML数学表示语言等多项先进技术,构建一个交互式数学Web服务学习平台。实际运行结果表明,平台具有良好的表现形式和运行性能,为使用者提供一个良好的交互式学习环境。
