Diagnosis of Premature Senescence of Cotton Using SPAD Value  [PDF]

Abstract: Field experiments were conducted in 2011 on an experimental farm at the Cotton Research Insti-tute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Anyang, China. We conducted experiments with a “SPAD-502” meter to quickly measure the relative value of chlorophyll content in the leaf blades of field cotton. Our goal was to seek a suitable leaf on a cotton plant to diagnose senescence status of crop plants at later stages of growth. We began by studying the dynamic change rule of the dis-tal-most four leaves of the cotton plant during the entire growth period with two early-maturing cultivars (CCRI 36, CCRI 50) and two mid-maturing cultivars (CCRI 41, SCRC 28). We also examined the effect of different nitrogen and potassium fertilizer rates on SPAD values of the leaves of SCRC 28. Our results suggest that SPAD values of the 1st distal stem leaves from two early cultivars can act as good indicators of senescence status in the plants, if they are measured between 10 d before the boll-opening stage and 10 d after boll opening stage. Differences of SPAD values of the 3rd distal stem leaves of two mid-maturing cultivars measured between about 15 d before the boll opening stage and 15 d after the boll opening stage can also be used to measure senescence status in these cotton cultivars. The conclusion can be used for cotton producer to manage N fertilizer better at later growth stage.
Enhanced Specificity of Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction via CdTe Quantum Dots

Abstract: Nanoparticles were recently reported to be able to improve both efficiency and specificity in polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Here, CdTe QDs were introduced into multi-PCR systems. It was found that an appropriate concentration of CdTe QDs could enhance the performance of multi-PCR by reducing the formation of nonspecific products in the complex system, but an excessive amount of CdTe QDs could suppress the PCR. The effects of QDs on PCR can be reversed by increasing the polymerase concentration or by adding bovine serum albumin (BSA). The mechanisms underlying these effects were also discussed. The results indicated that CdTe QDs could be used to optimize the amplification products of the PCR, especially in the multi-PCR system with different primers annealing temperatures, which is of great significance for molecular diagnosis.
A Reconstruction Method for Disparity Image Based on Region Segmentation and RBF Neural Network

Abstract: The Reconstruction for disparity image is the key technology for 3D image restoration in stereovision field. However, the data volume of disparity images is so large and the topological structures of disparity images is so complicated that reconstruction for disparity image is very difficult. We had done a lot of works for the sake of constructing a new method to reconstruct disparity image. In this study, a reconstruction method for disparity image based on region segmentation and isomorphic RBF(Radical Basis Function) neural network is presented. First, the disparity image is divided into some regions with adjustable threshold and edge detection. Next, reconstruction based on RBF neural network is carried out in every region, in which process the disparity point clouds are optimized. Then, all the regions are connected and the reconstruction result is obtained. Abstract: Stable mRHBDD1 knockdown GC-1 cells were sensitive to apoptotic stimuli, PS341 and UV irradiation. In vitro, they survived and proliferated normally. However, they lost the ability to survive and differentiate in mouse seminiferous tubules.Our findings suggest that mRHBDD1 may be associated with mammalian spermatogenesis.Spermatogenesis generates functional sperm cells from initially undifferentiated germ cells. This involves the proliferation of spermatogonia, meiosis of spermatocytes and the differentiation of spermatids into spermatozoa. It is a complex developmental program in which myriad events take place to ensure that the germ cells reach their proper stages of development at the appropriate times. Normal spermatogenesis requires a well-regulated balance of several processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.Apoptosis is a key phenomenon during spermatogenesis. For instance, an early, massive wave of germ cell apoptosis occurs at puberty. This event takes place during postnatal weeks 2 to 4 in mice, with a peak after 3 weeks [1-3]. It is estimated that 75% of spermatogenic cells undergo apoptosis during development [4,5], ensuring the maintenance of a critical ratio between maturing germ cells and Sertoli cells [2,6]. Sporadic apoptosis also occurs, primarily in spermatogonia and spermatocytes [2], eliminating defective germ cells with mutated DNA [7].The Rhomboid family comprises polytopic membrane proteins, which may be the most widely-conserved membrane proteins identified to date [8]. Abstract: Exosomes are small extracellular membrane vesicles of endocytic origin released by many cells that could be found in most body fluids. The main functions of exosomes are cellular communication and cellular waste clean-up. This study was conducted to determine the involvement of exosomes in the regulation of sensitivity of the lung cancer cell line A549 to cisplatin (DDP). When DDP was added to A549 cells, exosomes secretion was strengthened. Addition of the secreted exosomes to other A549 cells increased the resistance of these A549 cells to DDP. Upon exposure of A549 to DDP, the expression levels of several miRNAs and mRNAs reportedly associated with DDP sensitivity changed significantly in exosomes; these changes may mediate the resistance of A549 cells to DDP. Exosomes released by A549 cells during DDP exposure decreased the sensitivity of other A549 cells to DDP, which may be mediated by miRNAs and mRNAs exchange by exosomes via cell-to-cell communication. Although the detailed mechanism of resistance remains unclear, we believed that inhibition of exosomes formation and release might present a novel strategy for lung cancer treatment in the future.
The isotopic abundance and atomic weight of natural uranium

Abstract: The published measurement data of atomic weight of uranium are shown in table 4[9]. The best results are those measured by Smith and Cowanet al. A r (U) = 238.028 79–238.028 90(3), their result error being ISD. The evaluated value of IUPAC-CAWIA is Ar(U)=238.028 9(1). In this work, the result is Ar(U) = 238.028 91(4). The combined uncertainty has been given according to 2SD of the measurement data through the calibration of a series of standard materials of uranium isotopes. It is reasonable to conclude that in this work the uncertainty which characterizes the measurement quality is better than other published data.

Abstract: 利用MTS815岩石力学实验系统对饱和砂岩进行三轴等围压情况下的循环加、卸载孔隙水压力实验.结果表明:压密阶段的加、卸载曲线中出现了很多"Z"状的波动,这些小波的出现没有规律性,初始残余变形比较大,还没有形成明显的滞回曲线.在弹性耦合阶段稳定滞回曲线加载时,应变呈上凹"Z"状波动,在到达上限值前出现拐点,应变达最大值;卸载时,应变呈下凸"Z"状波动,在到达下限值前出现拐点,应变达最小值,该阶段形成稳定的滞回曲线,表现形式由疏变密,稳定滞回曲线包含弹性变形向塑性变形演化.在孔隙水压力的不同上限值和不同幅值区间的耗散能构成不对称"X"形.在加载段,随着孔隙水压力增大,耗散能逐渐减小;卸载段,随着孔隙水压力减小,耗散能逐渐减小."X"形的交点出现的位置和夹角与不同上限值和不同幅值区间有关.在循环加、卸载孔隙水压力作用下,残余应变与循环次数的关系符合乘幂负指数关系.

Abstract: 兹格塘错是位于藏北高原腹地的一个封闭型湖泊,对其沉积物的粒度组成、粒度参数等粒度特征进行分析,揭示了湖面水位变化,水动力、风动力搬运强度等.并结合其他环境代用指标进行比较,探讨环境变化,揭示了兹格塘错区域全新世初期气候湿润、中期气候偏干、晚期干湿交替的气候变化特征.粒度参数所反映出的湖面波动与环境变化得到了其他环境代用指标较好的支持.
A Critical Study of the Elastic Properties and Stability of Heusler Compounds: Phase Change and Tetragonal X2YZ Compounds  [PDF]

Abstract: In the present work, the elastic constants and derived properties of tetragonal Heusler compounds were calculated using the high accuracy of the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FPLAPW) method. To find the criteria required for an accurate calculation, the consequences of increasing the numbers of k-points and plane waves on the convergence of the calculated elastic constants were explored. Once accurate elastic constants were calculated, elastic anisotropies, sound velocities, Debye temperatures, malleability, and other measurable physical properties were determined for the studied systems. The elastic properties suggested metallic bonding with intermediate malleability, between brittle and ductile, for the studied Heusler compounds. To address the effect of off-stoichiometry on the mechanical properties, the virtual crystal approximation (VCA) was used to calculate the elastic constants. The results indicated that an extreme correlation exists between the anisotropy ratio and the stoichiometry of the Heusler compounds, especially in the case of Ni2MnGa. Metastable cubic Ni2MnGa exhibits a very high anisotropy (28) and hypothetical cubic Rh2FeSn violates the Born-Huang stability criteria in the L21 structure. The bulk moduli of the investigated tetragonal compounds do not vary much (130 ...190 GPa). The averaged values of the other elastic moduli are also rather similar, however, rather large differences are found for the elastic anisotropies of the compounds. These are reflected in very different spatial distributions of Young’s moduli when comparing the different compounds. The slowness surfaces of the compounds also differ considerably even though the average sound velocities are in the same order of magnitude (3.2 ... 3.6 km/s). The results demonstrate the importance of the elastic properties not only for purely tetragonal Heusler compounds but also for phase change materials that exhibit magnetic shape memory or magnetocaloric effects.
